Britbox Reviews Summary

BritBox garners mixed feedback, with many customers expressing appreciation for its diverse and engaging content, particularly in the realm of British television. However, significant concerns arise regarding the platform's technical reliability and customer service. Users frequently encounter issues with streaming interruptions, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and unresponsive support channels, leading to frustrations over billing practices. The overall sentiment suggests that while the content quality is valued, the user experience is hampered by navigational challenges and inadequate assistance, prompting some customers to seek alternatives. Addressing these operational shortcomings could enhance customer satisfaction and retention.

So disappointed
August 16, 2020

I'm three days in to my free trial and though this is the only streaming service I wanted I'm going to cancel tonight. Unfortunately, the streaming is terrible; there is constant buffering, stuttering and freezing. I'll give Acorn a go. :(

WORST EVER business
August 2, 2020

You sign up & pay; they try to charge you again 4 months into your annual service, then claim you never paid, you want to cancel, you are on a monthly, a constant barrage of insults to you the consumer. The service is also junk and NOT worth a dime. Service stops, bad streaming, I can't say enough bad things about it. THEY ARE CHEATS! Stay away and go one to other services so much better and reliable, nice people, NOT BritBox.

My mother was charged in May 2020 $69.99, her Visa account said BritBox, not Apple Pay. She bought a subscription through Apple in Aug. 2019. I went online to Britbox.com and got her logged in and it said she had a subscription via Apple. I am on my 4th call to Britbox and the call kicks me out after a 20 minute wait (I was "3rd" in line). Why are they billing her twice? The Apple subscription is to be renewed Aug. 2020 and I went ahead and cancelled it for her.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. 1) I had the 7 day free trial 2) Forgot my password 3) Clicked on link to reset my password 4) Was told a reset link would be sent to my email. 4) Never got the reset link 5) Tried 3 more times, was told the same thing, and NEVER got an email with the reset link 6) Called Britbox, listened to that stupid idiot talk while I was on hold for 20 minutes, and was finally told to call back later and was hung up on. 7) Called back, same BS, although I didn't listen to the stupid idiot, I stayed on the line to see what what would happen ---same thing, 20 minutes on hold and hung up on. 8) Meanwhile I couldn't take advantage of my 7 day free trial. 9) Called Amazon. They responded immediately, told them I was done with Britbox and why, and they immediately CANCELLED my free trial for me and any future association w/Britbox. I've told everyone about my experience. What a scam!

Update on BritBox
July 29, 2020
Updated review

BritBox is becoming a good source for British TV.
1.) The only fault is with the navigation: We watch a series (like Father Brown or QI) and then 6 months later we watch it again. When we do that, the system won't update to the next show. So, when we go to "Continue Watching" and click on, for example, QI, the system loads the same show we just saw. This began when BritBox updated... maybe two years ago. I've learned to deal with it. *** As for finding a show and watching it, it's best if you know the name of the show and search for it. But most comedy shows are in the comedy section, however some are actually in the "Panel Channel" section. That's British for "Game Show"...
2.) BritBox is adding more shows all the time. The recently aquired the entire series of Death In Paradise and Father Brown. These were on other sites. But the power of BritBox is the power of the BBC and ITV. (It's a joint operation.)
3.) It is just British TV. So, no movies, etc.
4.) They are slow in adding some shows. Once the latest episode of a series is aired it can be found on YouTube. But not Britbox. Eventually, the episode apppears on BritBox. Now, if you watch EastEnders or something like that, BritBox does a great job of keeping the "soap-opera" style shows up to date. But for many shows, it takes a while for it to appear on BritBox.
5.) I have not tried to contact BritBox since my last review of them. But they were difficult to contact then.

Y'All must not be using a ROKU...
September 22, 2019
Previous review

I have been watching Britbox for well over a year. My only complaint is the navigation. It's very awkward. But I got used to it. Unfortunately, the recent 'Upgrade' to the site has made the navigation worse.
OTHERWISE, it's a very useful resource. I can watch the same show many times, or back up in the middle of the show to see something I missed or did not understand. Close Captioning is okay.
I did try to use the FIRESTICK from Amazon. That's Awful. ROKU has the Amazon Firestick beat, unless you want to watch Amazon originated shows. Otherwise, the ROKU is much better.
I just wish Britbox would fix their navigation. I am managing it. But it could use improvement.
What's more irritating, My browsers won't load Britbox.com because they have not upgraded their security info. I can't load their site and communicate with them.
BritBox has also fixed their website connections.

If you are thinking about Britbox, remember that it's British (BBC) and controlled by the government in ways that Americans don't understand. Unlike Acorn and NetFlix, which are private, for profit, corporations.

After I bought a one year subscription, Britbox billed me for a renewal after only nine months. And they wouldn't let me login unless I paid for a renewal! Their web site would freeze up when ever you tried to communicate with customer service. When I finally found a telephone number for Britbox, a recorded message told me to use their web site! Roku was no help in resolving the issue.

I purchased a subscription with BritBox year beginning 2019. All was going well throughout 2019 until a friend gave me a present of an annual subscription on December 25,2019 for year 2020. Since then I've had problems viewing, requests for my credit information, and a complete disregard (no response) for any email I had sent. I really have to wonder whether my emails have been read because when I did eventually receive a response the issue had neither been resolved or understood. I've sent off another email requesting viewing rights and am awaiting a response from Elizabeth, Customer Service. Given the choice between BritBox and Acorn I would choose Acorn TV every time

I was unable to log in for at least 2 months on Britbox and once they fixed it, they gave me NO compensation what so ever. They basically stole from me. I can't even tell you how many times I contacted them during those 2 months trying to get help. Terrible customer service! I'm going to try Acorn.

This is about britbox.com. There is a britbox.co.uk that looks far superior as far as programming, with so many different things, also including channels 4 and 5, and with a 30-day free trial. The programming also looks like it includes a lot more recent things, but I didn't look at it extensively. It just looks a lot more professional and better presented than. Com, as I would expect from my fellow Brits. The cheeseparing cheapskates at. Com who only give a 7-day trial are the ones I'm talking about, and I think the. co.uk and. Com are run by different people, but I'm not entirely sure. I think I'll send a message to the. co.uk and see. If they are different, I'm more likely to get a reply. I already got an auto-reply from. co.uk, unlike the no response at all from. Com. In the time it took to listen to a few songs, I have received a reply from. co.uk telling me that they are 2 separate companies run by different people, that. Com is their sister company in the US and Canada.

I sent an email with some questions about this service well over 3 months ago, back in April, I didn't realise it was that long ago until I was looking at my emails, and never got a reply, not even an auto-reply. If the questions had been answered on their website, I wouldn't have had to write. One thing they did say in their information was what amounts to even if you were to start your subscription at one minute before midnight, that one minute would count as a whole day. They don't go by a specific clock time to make it more fair so you get your full subscription, cheapskates all round.

I did a free 7-day trial through amazon, which worked fine, but they only have a monthly, not an annual, subscription. If I decide to pay for britbox, due to the lack of customer service and the many bad reviews here, I will continue through amazon. At least I know it works there and that there is someone to complain to, if necessary, that will respond.

Without more information, on the surface, I would much prefer. co.uk and would get that one if I could be sure their app wouldn't block my vpn. I may do the free trial and see what happens.

The site has some good content - not great as you'd probably think of lots of stuff (many, many comedies for instance) which could be great on here. I suspect the PC brigade have probably stopped many of them being shown.

The app is awful with programmes erroring if paused and, the worst part, the need to activate with a code everytime it's used. I wouldn't bother until they add a bit more content anyway - it's okay if you like Downton and Dr Who and can put up with the appalling application

Scary.
July 8, 2020

I watched a Detective story on this website recently. I am used to not seeing violence on British TV. This one is horrifying, with graphic TV images of bodies of girls recently killed. This is not suitable for US TV or anyone. Most of the stuff does not have recognized actors. My wife started crying and departed my home. Shame on you. I will unsubscibe.

I used Britbox for one 2-weeks, and found the service/offerings not to be of interest. I canceled the subscription within the time limits, and now am repeatedly billed via Amazon each month for this service. As such, every month I have to go through Amazon's (not so good) customer service to have the charged reversed. Every month. It is ridiculous.

My free trial for britbox is now nearly up and decision time. Well i will continue with my subscription for now as there is still content i wish to watch.
As i said in my first review this is in no way a netflix alternative and dont think it was ever intended to be, its just a huge back catalogue of the uk tv services.
I personally use this as an extra to my amazon prime subscription to access content you cant find anywhere else. Yes you can get some of the content on the free catchup services but not all of it and certainly not what im watching. If you can have only one streaming subscription then this is probably not for you as i see it as extra service to other services.
I like britbox its easy to use has a watchlist and a continue watching section which makes life easy.
The whole point of a free trial is to test something out its easy to cancel if its not for you and hasnt cost you anything, but i certainly wouldnt knock britbox as its something different from other services.

I received a gift subscription but found I needed a credit card to activate it. This is just wrong to begin with. I don't have a credit card. After several days of trying to reach support on the customer service line (5 minute wait, 3 minute wait, etc) the call was never answered. I was told by the robot to leave my number. A week later, no call back.
Emailed the company. Emails are said to be answered in one day. No response on over a week, nada. Now I have a $70 gift I can use and there is no one to speak to about this. Has everyone died from CoVid-19? 90 percent of customer service reps across all companies work from home and have for years. What has happened to BritBox?

The premise behind Britbox is intriguing, but the result is limited. They have constructed their promotional to give the impression that there are a number of desirable TV series that are available. As it turns out, that only true some of the time. Many are not completely available. Sometimes there is only a "teaser" episode, or a partial series really offered. Most of those situations result in a means by which you can "purchase" the remaining content at an additional cost.
The interface is through Amazon's Prime Video offering which is a terribly "lame" interface compared to Netflix, et. Al. The Britbox functionality is, if you can believe it, even lamer that the Amazon Prime interface. That gives you two levels of error prone application software to navigate. Britbox is terrible at keeping track of what episode you are watching (or what is next). Amazon is a little "shaky" in this area but Britbox takes it to a whole new level of ineptitude. Some seasons of a series may always position you at Ep 1, even though you have watched Ep 1-3 already. Every time you want to watch the next episode you must navigate from 1 to "N" to watch Ep. "N".
The interaction between the "Watchlist" and the Britbox "channel" is sketchy at best. Amazon Prime itself is not particularly good at this concept but this is even more unimpressive.
In Summary:
- We've been Netflix subscribers for 14 years. I'd rate them 9 out of 10.
- We've been Amazon Prime subscribers for 10 years. I'd rate them 6 out of 10.
- We've been Britbox subscribers for 2-1/4 MONTHS. Id rate them 4 out of 10.
The Bottom Line: Do your research well before subscribing. Subscribe. Watch what you want like there's no tomorrow. Unsubscribe and get out.

Although Britbox has an impressive collection of programmes it is badly let down by just not being user friendly. An example; when you have watched a programme and want to delete it from the "continue watching", if you google how to do this it tells you to go to the watchlist at the top of the screen... problem is is that it's not there!
Designed by people who obviously don't use Britbox themselves!

Double billing
June 26, 2020

I noticed on June 4th that I was being double billed. Now I had not noticed because it can take 3-5 days for the 6.99 payment to process. I had this service almost 3 years. However I went to cancel my subscription just for the summer months and noticed it did not cancel after reviewing my billing history I had been charged twice a month for the last year and 3 times I. October. I got a ticket number got a return email on the 10th asking for patience now customer service is never available and I have be issued a new ticket number. I'll just stick with acorn

Signed up on beta version before going live
Issues around limited platforms and buffering but still continues to take subscription
On rolling out fully thought I'd see if they improve
Content more covered to younger market
Recently used my add on via EE, BritBox continued to take my subscription and they declined to resolve so basically took double the subscription
Recently when logging in BritBox takes me direct to resubscribe page when already subscribing
BritBox yet again failed to resolve and customer service have a habit of blaming others than themselves so I cancelled after having 2 months subscription out of me on leaving and no service
Extremely poor and BritBox has a very long way to improve

Scenes cut out
June 25, 2020

I watched Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, and there were scenes that had been edited out, which makes no sense.
Now I'll be paying attention to see whether this is what Britbox does as a rule, or what. Since there are no commercials, why would they need to pare it down. Disappointing.
