Britbox Reviews Summary

BritBox garners mixed feedback, with many customers expressing appreciation for its diverse and engaging content, particularly in the realm of British television. However, significant concerns arise regarding the platform's technical reliability and customer service. Users frequently encounter issues with streaming interruptions, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and unresponsive support channels, leading to frustrations over billing practices. The overall sentiment suggests that while the content quality is valued, the user experience is hampered by navigational challenges and inadequate assistance, prompting some customers to seek alternatives. Addressing these operational shortcomings could enhance customer satisfaction and retention.

Great if you want to watch classic series which are not readily available, requires buying many boxsets o r you missed on iPlayer or ITV Hub etc.

They seem to be improving the app since launch. My only gripe is that they tag everything as HD even if a programme was recorded in the 80s on videotape. My only guess is that they upscale the content to HD but I'd rather know what is true HD. For example Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been converted to HD on Blu Ray as it was shot on film, but is the version on BritBox HD?

My mission now is to watch all of Classic Dr Who.

No 21st Century software

I'm viewing the 4 episodes of Midsomer Murders available of the latest season Britbox has for viewing. When I leave an episode and want to return to that episode where i left off or to start the next episode, here's what I have to do: on my WatchList, the series comes up - FROM SEASON ONE and i have to scroll or arrow through all the way to Season 21 at the end! Every time! Lucky it's only 4. I am so done with Britbox.

Initially the sound quality was dire. I couldn't follow any spoken exchanges because words are broken up by the poor quality. I gave up half way through an episode of Vera. However, the problem appears to have been fixed and the sound quality is now good. It's great to be able to catch up on missed episodes and watch favourite episodes from past series again.

I registered for BB in Sept. When I received my charge card bill in Oct. I found that I was being billed for two subscriptions. Called BB to have one canceled. One week later I can't access BB at all but I'm still being billed for 2 subscriptions. I called BB a minimum of 6 times to have this corrected and was told, every time, that my issue would be "elevated to the next level" and I would hear back, via email. It is now mid January and I have not heard a word. On my last call to BB I was able to gain access and watch it which is nice but I would like a refund for the months I was being billed but had no access. I suppose that isn't going to happen. I would never recommend BB to anyone, truly. I understand mistakes, glitches, confusion, etc., etc., but don't understand a complete disregard for a customer. Terrible, terrible service.

When I enrolled in Britbox I was unable to access it on my TV the Samsung model I have does not support it. I immediately contacted the support online and canceled. A debit for the yearly payment appeared on my account on January 9th. When I contacted the 1-800 number I was told that since I did not cancel within the trial period, a refund would not be issued (evidently they did not receive my email canceling). I consider this very poor customer service.

I tried to be open minded and had a low expectation, even so I was bitterly disappointed. I decided to try it out after watching series 1-7 of Death in Paradise on Netflix and hoped to dine series 8. No such luck, it seems the BBC hold on to the streaming rights for 12 months for their iPlayer. Which would be fine, but DiP is not there either. To make matters worse there are other BBC shows that are absent, in fact I searched for several shows and couldn't find any of them, Next of Kin, It ain't half hot mum and The last train! What annoys me the most is that if you search for a show on Netflix that they don't have, Netflix shows suggestions for alternatives that you may like based on your search. The other annoyance is that most of what is available on Britbox is also available on free to view streamers and/or Sky box sets. The 'Carry on collection' is far from complete and there are more available on the ITV hub than Britbox.

In short there are bound to be a few people who will benefit from Britbox, people who do not subscribe to Sky, Netflix or Amazon Prime and have one of the very few devices that the app support, but for the other 95% of the U. K. Market I suggest you save the time and money and just sign up to UKTV play instead, it's free and has a lot of the same thing as Britbox.

Total Let Down
January 10, 2020

I will have to agree with the majority of reviews here. The service is rushed and poorly thought out. There is no android apps, not ability to cast to TV.

The BBC should be able to put their entire library online. There is so much missing from the database and then they expect you to pay £6 a month (on top of your licence fee) This service should be FREE to all UK TV Licence Holders...

A feeble attempt to rival (LOL) other online streaming services. Another BBC hash up which as obviously been implemented by people in the BBC who have not got a clue.

All those who cant get the money back - Call your bank or credit card and make a chargeback... pretty simple!

I subscribed to this service so that I could watch Eastenders. I became addicted to this program when it aired on PBS. PBS discontinued it, but I was able to watch it on BBC America. The, despite a lot of pleading by watchers, BBC America discontinued it. I thought that I would never see another episode again. Then I found that Britbox aired Eastenders. I was sold. I read some of the negative comments, but I really have not had those issues. I would have given my review 5 stars, but the customer service is really bad.

AWFUL in all regards
January 6, 2020

Rip-off! I gave this service to my 82 year old mother for Christmas. After many calls, and many hours on hold, the service still failed to work but the company refuses to issue a refund. The strategy seems to be to wear you down until you give up and simply let your money go. Definitely merits investigation, and I will certainly be forwarding my complaints to the appropriate agencies in groups at all levels. Meanwhile do not buy this under any circumstances unless you are a masochist!

The number of programs offered are okay, but not great. Some programs only have the most recent season, which is pointless if you haven't already seen the previous seasons. The user interface is not intuitive, but I could live with it if it weren't for the BIGGEST issue... the absolutely MINUTE size of the closed-captioning/subtitles (when they're even available!) I can barely read them, and I have decent eyesight. What on EARTH are older viewers doing? Getting fed up, I would assume. The worst part is that one day they were average sized and the next they were TINY. Why? And there is no way to change the size. As a hard of hearing individual, I cannot watch television without captioning. I find it difficult to believe that if anyone at Britbox was even TRYING to pay attention that they would think the minuscule size of the captioning is okay for all/most viewers. It makes one have to scrutinize the captioning and miss out on seeing much if anything that's happening on screen, rather than being able to do both. SO frustrating and easily remedied, IF they cared to fix it. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or like/need to watch on mute with captioning, don't bother signing up for Britbox.

Consistency please
January 4, 2020

I was given a subscription for a year for Christmas by my daughter which I was thrilled about. In common with one in three people over 65, I have a hearing loss. Mine is so severe that I am unable to watch TV with my family any more. I watch catch up, with headphones on my Mac computer. I have been disappointed concerning the inconsistencies with the availability of subtitles. Sometimes they are available and sometimes not (even in the middle of a series they sometimes are just not available) which I find frustrating in the extreme. Please can this issue be addressed and rectified? Caryll Monument

The complaint I made through my states Consumer Protection bureau worked! I received both a letter from my consumer protection bureau in which they forwarded a letter sent to their agency by Steve Scibelli VP of business and legal affairs at Brit box. They refunded my daughters subscription fee ( as a 1 time favor, of course) even though it goes against their policy. COMPLAIN! Vocally! And use your states Consumer Protection agency.

I purchased a gift subscription for my mother. What BritBox does not tell you upfront is that it does not work with Amazon fire stick, amazon prime or Xfinity cable TV. You must purchase a google chrome or Roku in order to stream BritBox. No refunds are offered even though the subscription website is misleading customers.

Doesn't work on most TVs
December 23, 2019

What they don't tell you is that you need a new Samsung TV or Roku, Apple TV add ons. Doesn't work with my brand new LG. Only found this out from their tech support.
Paid up front for a gift subscription for my wife and guess what? No refunds!
They said we could watch on our phones though.

So far so good, if you use a firestick just use firestick internet app and, signup then just bookmark britbox. Good, if you like UK classics, comedy, drama, movies! If as promised they pull UK content from Netflix and Amazon then a future probable if you like UK content! Only a taster as still to launch fully on all devices!

How much!
December 17, 2019

I first thought this was a joke, crap content and wow the price £5.99! Do yourself a favor DO NOT SUB... if you want Netflix (better) pay £7.99. If you want Apple TV (better) £4.99

Britbox is a waste of time and money, if you want $#*! UK content just watch youtube (free)

The App is one of the worst I've seen.
