Breck's Bulbs cannot unhinge your account order emails from their incessant email marketing campaigns, so unless you are prepared to receive an email a day or more from Breck's, I would not recommend ordering from them. Bulb quality is ok, but nothing special, and it takes far less of our time to manage orders from a supplier who does not SPAM our inbox. Brecks fails to understand that too much information actually reduces customer engagement, rather than improving it. We have unsubscribed, but if we place and order, we get re-added to the mailing list, We can't be bothered to check their emails anymore, filtered them to junk, closed the account, and now order from someone who only sends us emails relevant to our orders.
I kept receiving these catalogs of beautiful flowers and ordered a mix of Irises that totaled around $40. When I received them they were dry rotted. I did the scratch test on the rhizomes and they were not viable. I called and was told to plant them anyway. The first bill that came after that, had a 10 dollar late fee applied. It was the first bill I received! I reached out to the company and explained that I had just received the first bill. They put me on a very lengthy hold and said the "late fee" would be removed. Not wanting any other negative issues, I asked if they could go ahead and take a payment over the phone. They assured me they were more than happy to do that. I gave them all my card information and received my confirmation number. I didn't give it another thought until I received the next months bill. It had ANOTHER late fee and NOTHING had been applied towards the balance at all! I called back in and they said no payment had been taken. Afraid, but VERY TIRED of the hassle and unprofessionalism, I asked if I could just pay the entire balance. They took my payment and I never plan on doing business with this company again! I have dealt with many other reputable companies and never had these types of issues. Don't waste your time or $$$
We received an email and offer with 10% off and free shipping for any order of $50.00. We tried to place an order for $150.00 and then did receive our free shipping, BUT...then they added in a shipping surcharge to cover the shipping! I tried their on line chat and then ended up calling and talking to three people. They said there are no representatives in the US so I need to talk to them only. "Very sorry sir, the surcharge is charged by the greenhouse/manufacturer of the items so we have not control and you must pay".
So... in the end you pay the shipping surcharge, but shipping is free. You be the judge, but not a great deal and nothing but deceptive from the start. I should also add that they would not even talk to me without all my information on shipping and phone numbers and such. Ugh. Just don't like that either!
Ordered Rubra Maxima Crown Imperial Day Lilly. First batch arrived rotten and full of insects. Breck's replaced item but replacement was received in the same rotten state as the first and again crawling with insects. Contacted Brecks for a refund and was informed that they no longer give refunds but would credit my account. Credit probably will not cover shipping costs on any future order.
I bought a fairly large order of spring bulbs. After placing my order I received notification that my bulbs would be shipped near the end of October. I live in Calgary. We're often under two feet of snow by then. I contacted Brecks and was told that's when they would receive them from the supplier and there wasn't anything that could be done to expedite my order.
I watched as the most beautiful September passed by, followed by three weeks of lovely October. My bulbs finally arrived just in time for the weather to change. Calgary is now, indeed, under feet of snow and we have only one quarter of our bulbs planted.
What a colossal waste of money. I will never order another thing from Brecks.
My review is really a question? I ordered creeping geraniums last late winter and they never arrived. I ordered them through a card enclosed in a small catalog. I never received my order. I was supposed to be billed when they would arrive. Then not too long afterwards I received a notice saying I needed to give every ounce of my financial information to Brecks so they could approve me... I called their customer service to say I thought that this was a scam. Anyway, I didn't get my order. I wasn't billed for anything, and I haven't gotten a Brecks Catalog since. This makes me quite sad as I have ordered from them for many years and have recommended them to other gardeners. I have never been disappointed in their quality of plants and bare roots. My garden is full of their peonies(gorgeous) and lilies. So, I ask the question, is Brecks still in business? Have they revamped their dealings with the public? What has happened to Brecks?
I ordered dahlia tubers in late winter and they were back ordered twice. Not planning to arrive until July. I cancelled and ordered spring bulbs. They just arrived today (10/22) and the order was incomplete as it was missing my allium drumstick bulbs. No way to reorder as I was told they were no longer available for shipping. Brecks is unreliable for both shipping speed and actually getting what you ordered. Don't waste your time and money!
As others have said:
-late shipping; there is a standard 2-4 wks delivery w/o backorder!
-despite above, some didn't arrive until December, no doubt contributing to many failures
-many were moldy and/or rotten-most did not appear at all, I DEEPLY RESENT the time I spent planting to no avail (in bitter cold and dark days of December!)
-guarantee only provides "replacement certificate" so I am stuck ordering again this year (it will be interesting to see what bulbs look like & if any actually come up--but if they don't look good, or arrive later again I will demand a refund)

I've had great experiences with Longwood Gardens; the few bulbs that didn't come up they replaced (my choice) without a hassle

They did credit my Visa account quickly, but that doesn't help my garden grow. I'll stick to buying from local growers and nurseries,
I ordered Lily of the Valley through Brecks. I have wanted to have these in my life forever now. Finally ordered them and painstakingly followed their directions only to have them all die. SO DISAPPOINTED. I would consider another venue for your bulbs.
I ordered about $150 worth of Dahlia bulbs in winter of 2021, they arrived very late in the planting season and were very poor quality. We planted them and only about three of them grew and bloomed and were very underwhelming. I contacted Brecks and they issued a credit for the next planting season. I ordered again this year. I emailed for a refund around the end of May as I did not have them yet. They were willing to issue the refund. With a day or two they arrived. Same situation, they were awful quality. An Agapanthus bulb I ordered, could not even be found in the bag of dust they sent, I contacted them around the and said this is ridiculous and to issue my refund. They said to plant the bulbs and if they did not come up, they would issue a credit. It is now July and only one bulb has grown. I know it is not me as Dahlia bulbs that I bought from Home Depot are flourishing in my garden and look beautiful. DO NOT BUY FROM BRECKS!
My order was replaced three times and nothing ever grew. Bulbs and bare roots didn't look great when delivered. Can't talk to a grower for help. Customer service are pleasant but don't have helpful information. Discusted on the time and money wasted. Stuck with a credit that I will never use!
Terrible plants. If you order for fall planting, brecks sends them too late to get in the ground in the fall. Spring plants are awful. Bought $100 worth of plants and only 3 out of 40 plants grew in my garden. I am a master gardener and would suggest to all gardeners to buy your plants locally. Brecks doesn't have very good customer service. Totally bad bare root plants. Bought from them for a couple years and don't have e-mails or receipts. Didn't even try to get reimbursed from my previous orders cause they will send me the same junk as before. Use caution buying from Brecks!
I've been waiting for my order for months. When I received it, the bulbs were dry, almost rotten.
I asked them for a refund, but they offered me a purchase certificate. When I told them that I did not want a purchase certificate, but the full refund of my payment.
They refunded part of my payment and kept the taxes, since it was only 3 dollars, I didn't want to keep wasting my time for 3 dollars. With the amount of negative reviews I've seen of them. I don't think they sell much and maybe they need them more than I do.
I ordered over $300 worth of bulbs in the winter of 2022. They all arrived late to plant in our zone and were not stored and shipped properly. I'm an experienced grower have not seen bulbs treated so poorly. The dahlias were not divided and arrived shriveled and rotten. I only had about 40% success with my orders.
Breck's used to be great. Ordered tons of stuff and they always shipped when they were supposed, and only rarely did not grow.
Recently, when trying to find out where my late order was, I found out that customer service is now overseas. Strike 1 for me. After several calls, receiving different info each time, I finally got a shipping notice. Great, only a week late, I thought, but hopefully they were not sitting on a hot warehouse shipping dock for that week. Received the order yesterday. Opened it, and several plants were missing. Strike 2. Customer service informed me they are now out of stock, and I can have credit for the purchase amount. Strike 3. But, people, do not accept credit! I insisted on a refund, and after the line "as a one time exception", they finally issued a refund.
Anyway, after late shipping, questionable quality of plants I did receive, and not receiving what I ordered, I have decided this is the last time I order from Breck's.
I ordered (separately) 2 Cala Lillie's and 1 I See Stars Siberian Iris. The iris was a BOGO but I only received 1. None of these plants (actually bulbs and roots) ever grew. Breck's gave me a partial refund instead of replacing the items, which just means I have to spend more money which I will not do. Do not use Breck's.
I spent over $1500 and planted everything as recommended using their food. 95% didn't come up and the rest are so feeble it's ridiculous. Complete waste of money. Caveat emptor
Answer: They never sent any product that I order for fall. Canceled my order after cashing my check. Still waiting for the refund. So no becks products to show off here. Only a un happy customer
