BUYER BEWARE!
August 20, 2019

WARNING! Do not do business with this company! The shipments and customer service are awful! First of all, they ship the wines in the heat of the summer without any concern to how the hot temperatures affect the quality of the wine. They also do not provide accurate information about when the wine will ship. They send an email saying it will arrive on a certain date and it doesn't actually arrive until weeks later. On one shipment, I selected specific wines. They substituted half of the shipment with a "Tribeca Film Festival 2017" wine (a cheap wine that was clearly something that they needed to get rid of). The didn't notify me of the substitution. When I found the error, they promised me they would ship the wine I had requested. Months later, I found out they do not have the wine available, which they failed to notify me of. I am still trying to get them to refund my money. Horrible company!

Fedex damaged 2 shipments in a row. They failed to notify me. Lots of apologies and little or no help. No follow through. Endless delays.

I ordered the WSJ membership as a gift for my father. Because it was under his name, although I set it up, it was with my email, my credit card, and even had my information as well as a message that said "Happy Birthday Dad" on the order, this company refused to cancel. They could obviously tell that I was the owner of the membership, and even said on the phone that what I had probably done was leave a pre-selected box that copied the Shipping address over to the Billing Address. Because of this, the refused to cancel the membership. I am sure that they just wanted to take all measures to not let me cancel. I even asked for a supervisor after a 25 minute call and let them know this was in bad faith, as they could tell I was the ordering party and owner of the credit card, which should trump any billing address. I'm also sure I entered my name somewhere as owning the account. This company instead required that my 70 year old father call and cancel his own gift, with the information that only I had in my email! If he would have passed, or I would have ordered in any one else's name, this would have led to me never being able to cancel for a service I was obviously paying for, which is fraudulent charging, and operating in bad faith. This company should be severely reprimanded and lose their BBB standing for how they operate.

BEWARE.
June 13, 2019

Stay far far away from this wine club unless you enjoy endless phone conversations trying to figure out exactly where and when your shipment will be arriving. And be prepared to be blatantly lied to by the customer service reps. I'd say this place is a complete joke, but it's really not funny having to deal with this BS. Seriously, don't do this to yourself. I'm so so sorry I took the bait on this one.

The slow shipping was very annoying. And then, after having my credit card on file to automatically charge, they sent me a separate billing for a full case. There was no convincing them of their error. After disagreeing with the charge, they continued to bill me for this one case and eventually turned my account over to a collection agency. They have no interest in keeping customers happy. Stay away from this poorly-run operation!

Surprised that WSJ would lend its name to this fraudulent operation. Tried to order a case of wine to arrive on Valentine's Day. Nothing on their website could let the user know, that by ordering a single case of wine, you are enrolling in a "Membership" with recurring payments. This is pure consumer fraud. If you try to print the website pages, it will not print the image, but instead pops up a lengthy and one-sided contract(!) that was hidden from anyone who was simply interacting with the website and not printing it.

On top of that, they were never able to accomplish a single delivery to my house, which is easy to find and receives many deliveries. There was a disconnect between WSJ Wines and FedEx; WSJ said that their system had "generated" and address for me - why would a merchant "generate" a customer address? Finally, in April, 2 months after my order, I received a frantic call from FedEx saying they needed a "suite number." This is because FedEx was, once again, trying to deliver to a random office building instead of my home address.

I've wasted hours and frustration on these scammers and am only happy to escape after cutting off all connections with them, after finally receiving the one shipment.

Good recommendations

I have been very happy with the company. Their website invites you to rate each bottle purchased. They are very flexible about customizing each order according to the taste rankings provided. I have had only had two bottles I was not enthralled with and was given a refund on my credit card, no questions asked. Fed EX deliveries are sometimes spotty, but that is their issue, not WSJ.

I am a long time aficionado of Argentine Malbec. Typically looking for vineyards located south of the city of Mendoza at higher (cooler) elevations. And most importantly looking for a wine having been kept in oak cask for over one year (Grand Reserva) or at minimum one year (Reserva). I don't find these designations on any of the most recent advertisement of the latest WSJ wine offering. Add to that the very young 2018 vintage and I suspect that the price/value is nothing to write home about. Maybe that is why we see so many complaints about delivery times... looking to age the wine a bit first?

Unbelievable... first time customer, and I order their "Challenger vs. Champion" Italian wines. Guess what? They substitute both - WITHOUT my awareness nor approval. Seriously? Total con job. I would be very careful with this company and I certainly would never order from them again.

Order shipped on 1/22 and it's not getting delivered until between 2/519 -> 2/8/19. ARE... YOU... KIDDING... ME. My girlfriend's birthday was 1/26. Nice work. This is by far the longest shipment method I've ever witnessed. This place sucks. Not to mention, terrible customer service. Once the shipment leaves their facility, welp, too bad... you'll need to deal with FedEx Ground directly to figure it out. Unreliable is an understatement. Oh and one more thing, thanks for ruining my girlfriend's birthday. The well is STILL dry.

In the mInority
December 27, 2018

I am reading all of these negative reviews and wonder whether we are the only member who has had a positive experience with WSJ wine. We have yet to receive a bad wine and have been pleased with the variety. I quickly learned to cancel unwanted shipments way before shipment and I have never received notice of pending shipments. Other than that I've been completely satisfied.

Last year we had a problem with a shipment, my fault as much as theirs. Customer service was pleasant and efficient and immediately solved the problem. Their response went above and beyond my expectation, making me a very satisfied customer.

Two years in a row I ordered wine for Christmas gifts. And told they would arrive before Christmas. Two years in a row they will not arrive before Christmas. I had hoped this was an isolated issue the first time.and gave them another chance... well it wasn't. Contacted customer service and got two different answers on why it would not arrive until 4 or 5 days after Christmas. I'm extremely disappointed and will never give them my business again. The people in customer service could care less and offered nothing to expedite shipping. I guess one needs to order 11 months ahead of time to get it by Christmas. Their are two many other options out there to put with this kind e commerce. Don't waist you time and money with these people.

ORDERED 24 RECEIVED 18.
December 14, 2018

I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND WAS NOT TOO THRILLED FROM THE START; ONE LARGE ORDER I HAD TO CANCELL DUE TO THEIR DELIVERY DATE WAS WEEKS AFTER THE ORIGIONAL ORDERED DATE, I HAD TO CANCELL THAT ONE AND ORFER FROM SOME OTHER PLACE.
MY LAST ORDER WAS FOR 2 CASES, ALMOST $400.00. A FEW WEEKS LATER ONE CASE WAS DELIVERED WITH A NOTE FROM THE SHIPPER THE OTHER ONE IS BEING SHIPPED. ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE OTHER SHIPMENT CAME IN MINUS 6 BOTTLES. I CALL WSJWINE TOLD THEM ABOUT THE SHORTAGE AND I OFFERED TO CONTACT THE SHIPPER BUT THAY SAID THEY WOULD HANDLE IT. A FEW WEEKS LATER I CALLED AGAINE AND THEY SAID IT WAS SHIPPED AND NEXT DAY 2 BOTTLES WERE RECEIVED. AFTER NUMERIOUS EMAILS I HAVE HAD NO RESPONCE FROM THEM ABOUT THE MISSING WINE.
SO MUCH FOR THEIR GAURENTEES.

Had been using them for 5-6 years off and on. Most all of the wine have been pretty good. Recently placed an order for a Holiday Wine collection that included some free bottles. The receipt they emailed me had the 3 free bottles, but the shipment showed up with only the 12 Holiday Whites. When I called to inquiry about this, they said the order didn't include the three free bottles. Customer Service basically said tough luck. Won't bother ordering from them again.

STAY AWAY! SCAM!
November 30, 2018

Placed my original order with an obvious unbeatable deal. Kept on getting e-mails with my estimated delivery date being pushed back, and back and back. Finally got ahold of someone who has excuses about them being out of stock of glasses so it would be an additional 3 weeks until I received. I told them to ship WITHOUT the glasses - and they wouldn't. I obviously led my order and membership and they said I would get my back within 3-5 business days. NOTHING yet. BE AWARE & STAY AWAY!

I have called. I have emailed. They keep charging me and say they will cancel my membership and then they do not and I get charged again. I have tried to remove my credit card and they do not allow it to be removed. The only thing left to do is to cancel the credit card. Never again!

Hit or Miss
September 10, 2018

I take the prestige wine assortment maybe twice a year. I cancel the others. The wines are usually decent and if you really don't like it, they give a bottle refund freely. It's a very mixed bag since they salt the assortment with some very ordinary and overvalued wines. This brand is owned by Laithwaites, a large UK wine club operator and negociant. Since they buy up a label's production, they can set outlandish prices.

Their marketing is overhyped with misleading hyperbole. They will wax about a vintage and appellation with a quote from say Robert Parker and then imply their offering has all these attributes. The same with a "discovery" winery right next door to Lafitte. Lots of malarkey.

The $69 intro is a great deal. You can easily go online and cancel the quarterly wine shipments. They occasionally offer a very nice and well priced assortment. The French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese wines are usually good, especially from lesser known regions. The New World wines are often lacking. Don't buy the hype. Look up the wines on Vivino or other wine sites. Honestly, I have gotten much better value from a flash wine seller and from the local warehouse store. I really cannot recommend them.

We have been receiving wine from WSJ Wine for about a year. The initial price was fair and subsequent orders fell into the $180 range. A large chunk of this is shipping. The first issue - billing is done two weeks prior to informing you of the delivery. Once you are informed, you cannot stop it or delay it. You will have already paid. Second - I have attempted to delay the delivery due to being out of town or just wanting to push it out a while but they ship the wine anyway. Twice now, the wine was left on my porch for my teenager to bring in (Fed-Ex illegally not getting an adult signature) the house two hours after the delivery. 100 degrees and 4 bottles ruined so far, the company wants me to pay to ship the bad ones back rather than credit and provide descent customer service. Do yourself a favor, go to Specs or Total wine and buy a case and save the hassle. One note to remember prior to signing on, the wines sent to you come from a wine store in your state. Each time a different "store" just sticks bottle in a box and mails them to you. Cut the two middle men out and drive to the store yourself.
