I uploaded photos of an old Japanese tapestry; the valuation and comment did come within 48 hours; it was pretty much as I had expected, and very thorough. When I had some difficulty in the beginning, Charlotte was quite helpful via email. I have no complaints and will probably use them again.

I found ValueMyStuff online as I could not locate any info on a doll I purchased at a swapmeet. The form I had to fill out was easy, uploading pictures was easy as well. They did what they said they would do; I received the information I was looking for within 48 hours. They were precise, explained things to me I did not no, and on top of all that, I think their prices are very reasonable. I will definitely use them again.

They evaluated an inherited silver tea and coffee set. I feared it might be silver plated but hoped it might have some value. They identified the company that manufactured the silver, the approximate year made and purchased, both of which lined up with family history. They also provided a useful overview of market conditions - which were not great, but also lined up with general info we had gathered from the web. The data entry and photo uploads were easy, and they emailed requesting more info, showing their attentiveness and efforts to get it right. Would use again.

They say get an appraisal in 48hrs. But it's been 4 days. I called the number on their website *******874 and you get a message "Unable to come to phone, please leave a message"
But mail box is full. Good thing I didn't pay for the 24hr. Appraisal.

I see others have had the same issues/complaints, why do they advertise you'll get a response in 48hrs. They are quick to take your money, but offer no customer service?

COMPLETE FRAUD
March 8, 2016

They appraised sterling silver items for less than the intrinsic value of the scrap metal.
Totally unprofessional un-knowledgeable staff. Stay Away, and get a real appraiser.

Dear Bryen,

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the valuation you received. Unfortunately our valuers give valuations on the piece and its artistic value and not its scrap metal value. It is unfortunate that today some very fine pieces of silver and gold are not achieving their scrap metal value at auction. As we do not have access to your account through SiteJabber I invite you to contact us at [email protected] a customer rep would be happy to talk you through your query and help identify some comparables as to why you piece was valued at the price it was.

TOTAL SCAM
March 1, 2016

This appraisal is a total scam I sent my pics, receipt and all pertinent info on a clarinet the receipt is over a year old and for $2245 the appraisal came back stating this item is worth between $2,000 and $3,000 WHAT?! I was paying for an actual appraisal then they tried to link me to an auction --all the reviews are 1 star except two which are obviously fake! Don't waste your time or money! I called and emailed no response!
Luckily I am getting my $15 bucks back through my cc company because I filed a scam complaint. :)

Dear Antoinette,

We are sorry you were not happy with your valuations if you would like to contact [email protected] or ring the office someone would be happy to help you, unfortunately I can not see a record of you previously attempting to contact us.

Our service supplies auction market estimates which is why we valued your piece between $2000 to $3000, retail prices can often be higher - I would suggest looking at the insurance value though as I dont have access to your account can not comment further. If you have further concerns please feel free to contact [email protected] attention Sarah with your customer number and I would be more than happy to assist you.

Out of business?
January 23, 2016

I wonder if this business has gone out of business! One phone number was no longer valid; another kept stating "voice mail box full". Never could get ahold of anyone; never received the appraisal I requested. Was able to get my money back through my credit card company. Do not recommend this company!

With over 100 items submitted for evaluation, most all where spot on. They helped sort the low end garbage from authentic high end items. Many objects thought to have no value turned out quite important. Others believed valuable, had decoritive use only despite our belief. For those wanting to sell, having their certification of vale has been key to sales.

If all I needed to do was Google the Internet to see the value of my antique paintings I would have done so and saved myself the fee. He called them new replicas when clearly they have been in their frames for a very very long time. I will take them to a legitimate art dealer where I can get a more detailed and accurate appraisal.

Sent them a piece of artwork. The piece was of 3 Native Americans; 2 Crow Indidan Chiefs, Pretty Eagle and Bear Claw, and Gerinimo. The piece had a sticker on the back from "Thurber Fine Arts, 210 Wabin (in Chicago) on the back. A quick internet search shows the buisness was only located at that address from 1880-1909. The "expert' dated the piece in the 1930's. What? Also the subjects name's and their location was printed next to their portrait in the artwork. The "Expert" said it was possibly painted at St. Xavier University in Chicago. Another quick internet check shows St. Xavier is a TOWN in the Crow Indian Reservation and the Chief was a Crow. Go figure! Experts they are NOT! A kindergartner could have done better.

Paid for the 48 hour review. Received the valuation within 48 hours, but it was worthless. The "appraiser" got almost everything wrong.

He described the chair as "bobbin turned" when in fact it's "barley twist". Bobbin turning is an English style from the 18th century that looks like stacked knobs or spools. It can easily be replicated on a lathe. Barley twist is completely different in that it's twisted rather than stacked. It cannot be easily replicated on a lathe.

Even though my description to the appraiser identified it as barley twist, and it was clearly evident in the photos, he referred to it as bobbin turned several times *sigh*

The appraiser misidentified the age of the style - he called it a copy of a 17th century chair. It is not. It is an 18th century design.

He said the wood was most likely lime or walnut. While the wood may be carved walnut, it is most certainly not lime. Lime wood has never been an acceptable wood for furniture making and certainly not in Europe where lime trees don't grow.

He never identified the style

In short, the appraisal was riddled with amateurish errors, there was no history, and there was no explanation of why the appraiser thought it was a copy.

Complete waste of time and money. I was looking for a reasonably priced informed opinion. It was reasonably priced, but it wasn't informed. Overall, valuemystuff is valueless.

I sent over 50 items to value my stuff and received 45 valuations promptly, the balance 5 was withheld due to additional fotos required. I have found them extremely prompt professional and responsive to my queries and problems... i especially found them very good at european ar t and indian art and chinese porcelain and recommend them to anyone looking for a genuine valuation
Their lists of experts are incredible\, which is why i went to them in the first place... i also put 3 antique buddha bronzes, tibetan nepali and chinese for auction on their site auction mystuff, while i received 70 views each, sadly, i did not get nany bids perhaps due to the fact im based in india and it is difficult to send antiques out of, though chinese and tibetan tiques are not banned. But the experienc was very good and i recommend them to all interested in the world of art and antiques, ross deas... one of indias largest antique collector.

I paid my fee and sent in my photos. They valued it, but any other information they supplied told me nothing, it could have been for anyone, plus, this is in their Terms and Conditions
4.1 The Company gives no representation, warranty or guarantee in the Valuation in respect of an object's origin, provenance, attribution, condition, date, age or authenticity.

So... whats the point
