I don't know if I got an accurate report, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. What I am certain I did get is a rude report. I didn't know anything about this item:
"The drawers on such a tansu are often lined in kiri wood but the owner has not seen fit to provide any photographs of the interior."
Rude, rude, rude.
They got back with clear, concise and comprehensive feedback really quickly.
I now feel confident in knowing what my stuff is worth and insuring or selling it for a fair price.
Thank you for the peace of mind and the service.
I recently had several appraisals done on some Snuff bottles that I inherited. I knew nothing about them so I had no idea of their worth. The appraisals were done quickly and in a very professional manner. The explanation of each one was very detailed. Thanks, Bob R.
I had some paintings evaluated and the wealth of information I got was very in depth and valuable. I'd highly recommend the ValueMyStuff website to anyone seeking valuations. Great work, great business indeed.
I would highly recommend this business to evaluate your antiques and collectibles. The price is very fair for the expert opinions and knowledgeable info they share with you about your item. I appreciate their efforts.
I have had maybe six valuations recently for probate purposes. Whilst Rate my Stuff do not provide probate valuations I have used the auction valuations as a starting point. Concise appraisals based on previous auction results. I did have one very specialised item to value being a Radio Controlled model Aircraft and I was amazed at the knowlege of the accesor who obviously was an expert and had not just based on a Google search. Foe me good service and very good value.
I am normally not one to complain, but this needs to be addressed. I have item made of Jade, from the 12-15 centuries. Knowing the appraised value, cost, history, I decided to let this website value my piece, just to see the valuation, and to test them on their abilities and procedures. The results Value my Stuff gave me were NOT comparable to the valuation I have received when I bought the item from a reputable dealer. Value my Stuff, under valued and lack history on my Piece. I have had other items reviewed by this website, that now throws all these items values into question (WHAT?) Obviously, the people responsible lack the experience to do appraisals. I would NOT RECOMMEND using this service to anyone, who want honest appraisals
Hello Stanley,
We would like to copy in our specialist's comments that we have already sent over to you, regarding your concerns:
"The piece in question does from the photographs look like a 19th-century item, the problem I have is not handling the item and closely examining the carving. The idea that it dates from the 12-15th century seems very vague as one is Song and the other Ming, the carving techniques and interpretation of objects being different in those dynasties. If the piece is of the Ming period the item would be worth 1200-1800 auction estimate and if Song 1500-2000. The figure I put on it was for a 19th-century carving and from the photographic evidence, I would adhere to that appraisal. I might suggest you have an independent Museum authenticity certificate which would be of help to both resale purposes and future collectors."
We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied on this occasion but wish you all the best.
Best wishes,
VMS
I couldn't be happier with my first experience with Value My Stuff. I won a pretty killer lot of vintage costume jewelry through an estate auction and after having researched a few of the pieces on my own, I suspected that some of them might be worth more than I had anticipated. I resell vintage clothing and accessories and didn't want to unwittingly charge too much for the items without properly identifying them first, so I submitted eight pieces to Value My Stuff for valuation. The online submission form was super easy, and I received my reports in under the allotted 48 hours. I was delighted reading the reports. It turns out that only one of the pieces I submitted was valued at the amount that I thought it would be, but I learned so much in reading the appraiser's reports. They were generous with their knowledge and the reports were so informative that I really feel as if I learned something through the experience of working with Value My Stuff. Now, I know more about a subject that I've always loved and I can price my new jewelry with confidence, knowing that I'm not unknowingly gouging my customers. Either one of these would be worth what Value My Stuff charges for these services, but I got both! I'll be returning without hesitation.
I'm impressed! I have got a professional and detailed answer what saved me thousands! Thank you so much!
Very professional and helpful, very easy to use (I wanted a valuation of a painting) good communication and a very timely answer. Would definitely use again.
I sent them a common pre-columbian bowl to evaluate and then also sent the bowl to a well known Doctor of art history to evaluate it also. The art history doctor correctly identified the item as a 500~800 year old pre-columbian bowl. This company however, dated it as a 20th century reproduction. I tried to show them the error they made by providing them the report from the other appraiser and they refused to give me a refund and had enough nerve to say the other appraiser, an art history doctor, professor, who's appeared on the history channel multiple times and does year round evaluations around the country, was wrong!
This company is a total joke and I'd avoid them. There's better services for the same price.
Dear Anthony,
Thank you for your review which we were expecting from your messages. We have already responded to your concerns several times during protracted private correspondence, however, I will reiterate our points below for clarity.
I am sorry you are disappointed with our appraisal, upon receiving one of higher value, however that does not mean ours is incorrect. The appraisal of any work of art is always a matter of opinion and these can vary significantly between specialists. Dr. Lori’s report, which you kindly provided us with, states the following: "The online appraisal represents the opinion of the appraiser, Dr. Lori ( www.DrLoriV.com). The online appraisal is not an in-person authentication nor is it a guarantee of sale." The report also states that the value is pending upon authentication. Therefore, I am afraid this cannot be used as any proof of authenticity.
I am able to offer my assurance that our specialist has many years of experience in the field as a Director of Pre-Columbian Art at Sotheby’s, upon which she has based her appraisal, along with the images and information provided. At no point have we suggested Dr. Lori was incorrect, nor have we have expressed any doubt in their expertise. We very much hope your item is authentic and worth more than we have stated, as we always prefer to bring our clients better news. However, we cannot significantly alter the values we have given without any further evidence, this would be deeply unprofessional and goes against the integrity of our service.
We can fully appreciate your disappointment, however, we are not able to offer refunds simply on the basis of another online appraisal; this is an all too prevalent occurrence in the world of art and auctioneering. A sales price realized, or even the results of a first-hand inspection which definitively stated that the piece was authentic, would be the criteria under which we would offer a refund.
We are sorry you were disappointed on this occasion but we wish you all the best.
Regards,
VMS
In 2019 VMS relaunched their homepage with the effect that all previous pictures that you tediously selected via customer service was changed. Some pictures doesn't even show up on the new web. In febr 2020 I asked about this issue and I got this reply "Once we have resolved the issue with the images, we should be able to select the principle image on the report for you". Another YEAR has passed and still no resolution...
Hi Anders,
As you have been notified in previous correspondence with us, we are not taking your case any further. We have answered all of your questions, offered solutions, explanations, credits, and a refund; these you have declined, preferring instead to post rather one-sided, negative reviews. Whilst we are disappointed we have not been able to restore your faith in the integrity of our service, we wish you all the best with selling your items.
We have hundreds of satisfied customers each week, it is regrettable we could not work together to resolve your issues.
This will be our last message, and we respectfully suggest you also cease communication to avoid taking up any more of your valuable time.
Regards,
VMS
I asked the head of client service about an Omega watch valuations they did for me in January 2020, which I felt was slightly awkward. Her response was "I am able to offer my assurance that the Watch specialist who appraised the watches has a worldwide reputation, whose opinion can be entirely relied upon. He has offered his opinion as to the value of the watches, it is up to you whether you accept that or not. All of our specialists have many years experience and complete test appraisals as part of our recruitment process. We are confident in the expertise and ability of all of our specialists."
She also informed me that they just hired a new watch "expert", so in February 2020, to investigate the validity of her words, I submitted the same watch again but now to the new "expert". The difference in value between two experts who must have done the test appraisal and apparently have been found fit for the job was a factor of six times. See copy from the valuations.
The same watch - two different "experts". You would think they use the test appraisal to Quality Assure the different "experts"
If you are a watch collector, judge yourself. What's the biggest difference in value between different experts you have seen for the same watch within a timeframe of one month?
I expected expert opinion, but received generalised comment. Here it is:
"There appears to be some water or
Condensation damage under the glass.
They are lovely works, but not exceptionally
Rare works.
They may be reverse painted on glass
(actually painted on the inside of the glass).
It is difficult to determine without removing
The backing which we do not recommend."
There is no water condensation! None. Why mentioning something like that, but not telling the year it was made, the name of the artist, what kind of method was used to even paint the picture like this? What is the name of this fine painting and who/what does it represent? They were not helpful at all.
Hello Valentina,
I'm sorry to hear you were unhappy with your report. Aside from the comments above, we also stated these were Chinese paintings, made circa 1900. We also gave you auction estimates, an insurance value, and offered our reasoning: "They are lovely, but do have some surface condition issues. Today they are not as rare or scarce as they were prior to internet sales, hence the relatively low values."
The works are unsigned, which unfortunately makes it challenging to determine an artist, as is common when valuing artworks. These were likely to have been made by a local artist to sell to tourists, and as such will not be listed in artist databases. The values given reflect this.
If there was any further specific information you required, please do not hesitate to contact us ([email protected]), and we would be very happy to discuss.
Best wishes, VMS
He most Valuable asset we can have in all avenues of life is that of a complete and uplifting experience. In the case of a paid service we have expectations, hopes, aims and requirements all of which were met by Value My Stuff'.
I think with items of potential value there is a higher charged spectrum of emotion for the company to navigate through. Behind every valuation is a personal story whether it's one that leads to potential sacrifice, fund raisers, difficult times and sentimental attachments. Often the value of expectation and necessity cannot be measured and the job of a valuation has to maintain tunnel vision whilst understanding this. In my mind Value My Stuff has the balance just right. They are approachable using terms like stuff' not antiques' so all areas are covered.
They have a host of specialists with decades of experience behind them and even when the valuation is complete, they maintain a presence.
If you have any questions or if anything in fact remains elusive they keep going with an unbiased and open mind to decode the hall marks and ghosts of the past.
This company, with the meticulous Ruth as a representative manning the helm and putting you in touch with vibrant and empathetic experts like Valerie, you cannot go wrong. They are friendly, prompt, efficient, caring and go above and beyond. They clearly aim to be honest, accurate but also to acknowledge the individual behind the piece.
The website is easy to use and if you're only paying a small percent of an items worth it has to be equally worth it.
Even if the possession is not as precious as you thought, the knowledge you acquire if you're selling on, prevents misrepresentation and that's invaluable.
I rescue animals and I'm none profit and I've been made to feel like I'm important.
That's where the gold lies. Ruth helped with any issue that naturally might crop up, in my case a confusion with tech' and resolves it within minutes.
I strongly recommend this company.
Thank you so much for your feedback and kind words. It was such a pleasure working with you, we very much look forward to having the opportunity again.
The work you do rescuing animals is an inspiration. We feel very privileged to have been able to be of service.
Ruth and the VMS Team
Paid my $20.00 asked me a ton of questions about the artwork that I uploaded multiple photos of. Then proceeded to tell me what I already wrote down in the questionnaire and some random info on a totally unrelated artist! When I wrote back to them, they asked for more information from me, wait, what exactly was I paying them for? Don't bother, do your own research or pay something substantial for a REAL appraisal. Don't waste your time and money with this company... Must be linked to Antiques road show, another rip off!
Dear Lisa,
Thank you for your review.
As per our private correspondence our specialist provided a comprehensive report, including information on the artist who originated the method used to create your item, concluding that further investigation would be needed to discover insight on the far less known artist who created your piece.
As you correctly point out, we do not carry out research valuations, these being significantly more costly than our modest fee. Our service is to value your item, which we have done.
We respectfully suggest you were hoping for a research valuation for a low fee and are now penalising us with a negative review for simply doing our job; to Value your Stuff!
Upon your request for further information, we offered to respond to any specific questions you may have, however you were unable to tell us what you wished to know. We will always endeavour to provide further information at our client’s request, most however are able to convey their particular areas of interest to us.
We always value client feedback, but regret, in this case, we must dispute the ‘facts’ laid out in your review.
Love,
VMS
Somewhat dated site but easy to use and value for money. I submitted a painting and got the valuation in 18 hours. Malcolm
In addition to valuing my items professionally, with valuable and reliable information that I have learned I can trust, their service is personalized in the way that they have taken care of me. They obviously value every customer personally, and want every customer highly satisfied and pleased. I felt as if I was working with them in person as opposed to online, and that they really cared about what they were doing for me, which made all our business very pleasurable.
£20 for the pleasure of what I wrote in the first place!
Absolutely rubbish. Take your item and get it valued in person by a specialist.
£20 down the drain. God they must be rich!
This is a professional service, tapping into the experience of specialists. I appreciated the fact that they provide details related to the origin, manufacture and period of the antiques.
The service is as advertised, providing valuations in 48 h.
Communication is as well great, thank you Ruth for your efficiency.

Hi Joanna,
We are so sorry to hear about your report and agree that the language used is inappropriate. We work with a large number of specialists who vary in their cataloguing, and usually, we carefully edit each report to ensure it aligns with our company style and values. This report must have slipped through the net, although we appreciate that this is no excuse.
Please do contact me directly, either by a direct message on Sitejabber or via email ([email protected]) with your valuation ID so that I can address the matter.
Many thanks
