They are the biggest scam ever! I opened an account and within minutes it got closed then I got a strange email saying I broke terms and conditions, when I hadn't even bought anything and had never used their site before!
I've made numerous reviews on trustpilot where Upwork uses a loophole in trustpilot to get the reviews taken down! They are scammers and don't care because if they did they would change their polices not have my negative reviews removed!

It's part of my life. I started when they were Odesk, I've actually done pretty well. The only thing I would change is the waiting times to get paid, but if you follow their rules and recommendations you can do very well. :)
Upwork is interesting platform, I'm a developer and found that it's really complicated to find anything appropriate for the short period of time. And it's fine, because it's life and sometimes you just need to wait.
The thing to improve is scoring mechanism, to offer best freelancers to best clients. AFAIK upwork is working on it so hopefully it will work nicely soon.

Despite of tough competition and various level of prospective client with different budgets, it's still my online medium to acquire new contracts and keep long-term relationship with my clients. I started on UpWork with nothing, really. This website helped me build my reputation from the scratch and now I am among the top rated service providers.
However, I take away one star because they added this new system of buying connects (a currency to submit proposals to clients), so new people with no reviews have no way of building a reputation without paying. For me it's okay now since I already have clients, but it's not as new-freelancers-friendly as it used to be.
Otherwise the site is reliable and provides great and responsive support for both freelancers and agencies.

This is the best Freelance mobile and web application. Although the commission is a little bit high (20%), but it opens for you new opportunities to get hired by clients from all over the world.
