TurboTax Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and software reliability. Common concerns include unresolved technical issues, difficulties with tax submissions, and a lack of effective support channels. Many users reported feeling frustrated by the customer service experience, citing long wait times, unhelpful representatives, and unresolved complaints. While some customers have used the service for years, recent changes appear to have led to a decline in perceived value and support. I've went to H&R Block for several years and gotten a advance on my federal refund, o seem that turbo tax had finally offered advances, I did everything they had asked me to do including opening a checking account thru credit krama, never received a offer or a explanation as to why I was not offered a advance

Zero Stars

I have been a customer of TurboTax for almost 10 years, if not longer. For the past few years, I have been purchasing the MAX defense benefits. Well, I received a letter the other day from the IRS stating that I owe money due to a miscalculation of a credit claimed on my 2020 tax return. Anyone that uses TurboTax knows the software you pay to use does the calculation for you, and now there is no way for me to access my MAX benefits even after contacting customer service. I deserve a refund for the additional amount and for the miscalculation of the credit, which cost me $300. DON'T USE TURBOTAX THIS IS JUST SAD NOT TO MENTION FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AND I WILL BE SEEING WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT THIS LEGALLY.

Overcharged
January 5, 2022

One thing that really bothers me is the false advertising. I'm constantly now seeing commercials advertising free free free free free. Maybe to do the taxes is free but to print them out and submit them is not. It costs about $120 for state and federal and no support.
Last year I completed my taxes. Something was still not calculating correctly. After an hour of attempting to figure out the problem, I finally decided to pay the upper package which included a consult with a tax advisor. After completing payment I transferred to the tax expert, I explained my issue and she researched. I had to explain several times what an HSA is. She finally figured out the issue and then asked me about payment. I explain to her that I had purchased the upper package which included this call. She said okay and that's for your business. A few days later I'm checking my credit card statement and discovered, in addition to the upper package, she charged me extra for this consult. I attempted to contact the company several times to resolve this. I never received one single response and definitely not a refund. I will never use TurboTax again.

Bootleg Company
December 8, 2021

Consumer beware. Turbo Tax will send a duplicate of your taxes months after you submitted the original return, which will cause all the accounts associated with that return to be locked out. Be advised that the IRS is not working on 21st century technology, policies and procedures and it will take them almost a year or at times more than a year to correct and issue to was originally created by Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax doesn't have anyone you can talk to to get anything correct, but they still are going to want their money. NO THEY AINT FREE, especially to the self-employed. Do business with them at your own risk. I know from experience because I am currently going through because of their error I am partaking of any additional CARES ACT resources because my account was missed up, to be fixed by 2022. WOW just in time to file taxes again, which I want be using their services.

My husband and I always filed jointly, however the turbo tax account can only be under one name. When he passed away I phoned turbo tax to have our account updated to me. I uploaded info they requested and there was absolutely no follow through from turbo tax. I had no access to history of our many years of tax filings. I no longer have receipts but had used turbo tax for at least 15 years.

Where to begin? I was a VERY, very loyal customer of TT for years. Loved how easy it was to use, etc. Then, when our needs diminished (retired, no longer business owners) we no longer needed their all-singing, all-dancing package. So, last year, I didn't update the credit card info and sent a message to say that we no longer wanted the service. What did they do? They charged AN EXPIRED CREDIT CARD. It went through. I used TT since I had paid for it (too much involved to try to do a chargeback, etc). This year, I went to their site and made sure they didn't have my current cc info. I'm still getting e-mails telling me that my card is no longer current and that it needs to be updated. I HAVE WRITTEN, nothing. I called today and got Paresh, clearly from India, whom was probably a nice guy but was impossible to understand. Worse, he wanted more info than was necessary to do a simple cancellation. He wanted the refund amount from last year (who remembers? It's in my files in another area that I couldn't access while on the phone.) Quite frankly, I got frustrated and ugly because all I wanted to do was cancel the service and it was one step away from impossible. There are no e-mail customer service addresses. They lure you in, but you cannot cancel without a special dispensation from God. If they try to charge my card, I will be filing several fraud charges on them because I've called, written, removed info in my account, etc, and still get e-mails telling me that they are about to send me the product. There is something frightening about a company that goes out of its way to make it nearly impossible to extricate yourself from them. I'm not saying this is deliberately fraudulent on their part, but...

I have been using turbo tax home and office forever. This year, however, I had big problems. I have my own business and there are many forms. After completing all the forms, checks, reviews, I was unable to file electronically because I had no Pin Number. Turbo Tax not only did not help me get a Pin number, but gave me false directions. I ended up printing my forms sending the by USPS. It's bad enough that Turbo Tax "Nickels & Dimes" you at the end with fees for things you took for granted, but putting me in a "DO LOOP" after all the time spent was inexcusable.

TurboTax Is a scam
July 15, 2021

I think this company needs class action lawsuits to get it going and I do mean the right kind. How are they able to hold all of these refunds after misleading so many of us. During a pandemic at that. I have been waiting for months as well. Also tricked into deluxe and cant talk to a human. Amazing crooks. Why are they still operating and how have they not been shut down? Eviction ban will lift soon and I worked throughout the pandemic. Essential and truly cared. No unemployment because I never stopped. I struggled to wait for my return only to be given the run arround. I am not the only one so the domino effect will be horrible. Never use this company. They are legal crooks for now. I am going to my legislators about this.

Despite having a decent tax filing system Turbo tax lost my tax info after filing and proceeded to give me a customer support run around.

For context: I filed my 2020 taxes with minimal difficulty and when I call, the agents can see that I have indeed filed but the webpage shows no pertinent information to my filing. It has been four weeks now since I first requested to see my tax return and each time I call I am greeted by the most horrendous (yes, worse than USPS) automated voice mail systems. Nearly 80% of the time the call ends in the system hanging up on me after an extensive 'tell me why you are calling' loop. When I occasionally get through to an agent they tell me that 'IT will look into it and get back to you'. This would have been frustrating but fine if not for the fact that it has now been four weeks, $200, and several automated voice mail greetings later and I have still not received so much as an update from IT.

I don't usually write reviews but my experience with TurboTax was so bad that I had to rant about it somewhere.

I filed my taxes several months ago with Turbotax. The IRS is way behind in doing taxes so my refund is delayed. They sent an email to me a few weeks back saying since my refund is delayed, they will take payment for their services directly out of my bank account. I called them and tried to reason with them since the IRS was behind with covid related things such as economic payments that they will get their money once it is done. I couldn't believe their lack of any reason, humanity or shame. They hid behind their company policy. All they kept saying was it was in the agreement. That may be but it is hidden in pages and pages of legaleeze and it was more related to if the refund taken not delayed. I filed a complaint with the BBB but that went nowhere. Their "Office of the President" (really a normal worker not a manager or executive) called me with more company policy lies. They could care less. They couldn't care that during this difficult time people are in all kinds of issues. They dont care if they burned a bridge to a life long customer. They dont care. I find it appalling how little they cared. All they wanted was to take money from my bank account. It is now my mission to let people know how horrible this company is. Please use anyone else besides them. Anyone!

My experience with TurboTax was terrible. I had to change the resolution of my computer to 600x800 to be able to proceed through some sections of the program. I had to change my TurboTax so that it could be run in administrator mode to be able to file my tax returns. The charge for using a credit card is 2.54% of the amount of tax owed, $25.40 for every $1000 dollars owed just to process a credit card. I spent hours searching the Internet to find out about changing resolution and running in administrator mode because TurboTax help is non-existent and where it does exist it is not helpful or useful. For a company like Intuit to produce and sell a product like this is a disgrace. I will not recommend this product to anyone and I will tell everyone what a terrible product this is and insist that they do not purchase it. I am a very unhappy user of this product. What should have been a simple and straight forward task became a nightmare. Only through perseverance, because I had already spent money on the product and it could not be refunded through Amazon, was I able to power through and actually file my taxes.

I used Turbo Tax for several years beginning around 2014. I noticed in completing my 2019 return in 2020 that there were glitches that were causing lock ups when I input data. I had to contact customer service who gave me a workaround that I will tell you was not intuitive and could not repeat if I tried to do on my own. I was also annoyed because I was unable to download a copy of my 2018 return until I had gone through completing my 2019. I felt like I was being held hostage. Fast forward to today 4/28/2020 and again the program locked up, not accepting information I put in and sending me back to the input page. I could not find a Customer Service number anywhere on the site and when I went to the Support Page it would not send me to a representative unless I signed up for "trial membership" for some support service. That was the last straw. I left and went over to Tax Slayer, where not only was the process faster and easier, but the cost was ONE THIRD what I was paying TT. All told, what has taken 30 minutes and at most 45 in the past ended up taking me over 2 1/2 hours to complete which is very annoying.

1)This year there is a major software glitch to link 1099-NEC to Schedule C. Called to report it and was told it would be fixed by a certain date & time. It has yet to be fixed.
2)Automated phone system is terrible and for the most part prevents anyone from connecting with an operator. I've used TurboTax for 20 years and not previously had this low level of service. Can't say that I'll use it anymore.

Harder each year
April 25, 2021

I have a relatively simple return with only a couple of tiny 1999misc out of the ordinary. Took me 3 hours to file. Too many questions, screens, sales pitches. Would have been much easier to just fill out the forms. Never again.
