The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and software reliability. Common concerns include unresolved technical issues, difficulties with tax submissions, and a lack of effective support channels. Many users reported feeling frustrated by the customer service experience, citing long wait times, unhelpful representatives, and unresolved complaints. While some customers have used the service for years, recent changes appear to have led to a decline in perceived value and support. This feedback suggests a pressing need for the company to enhance its customer service approach and address software functionality issues.

I signed up for TurboTax premier at the beginning of my return. Cost was $89 with $20 discount. $69. When I finished my return and was checking out the charge went to $169. I asked why and the girls response was I was using a 1099R and the price increased to $169. They did something similar last year but only $20 bump in price. I won't be using them again. I have heard similar stories from other people. Don't waste your time.
Supposed to file at 8862 form in which the system does not generate to file. No one seems to know what they are doing Upload my own 8862 to my file only to learn the IRS does not have access to see it in Turbo Tax.
I have used TurboTax for many years. It appeared to competently handle my consulting engineering work, investments and a single family rental property. I found the interface easy to use and liked the bringing data from the previous year into the next year's return. I did find TT's ability to pull data from financial accounts to be inconsistent, requiring me to carefully review with plenty of data entry.
We sold the rental last year, and found TurboTax Premier not up to the challenge of such a common transaction.
1. Depreciation on improvements had occurred ONLY the year the asset was installed. These were installed over 2 different years; new roof, new well, paved driveway.
2. I was unable to add those assets to the tax basis for the sale. Found I could NOT edit my attempts. Each try added new assets with no connection to the rental property.
4. TurboTax chat advised I clear my file and start over! I did this once but had the same problem.
Had I stayed with TurboTax, the sale would have been about $9k taxable profit
Bought TaxAct Premier for about $100. No troubles with the property sale.
The program also prompted me to the Carry Forward of disallowed losses section. This provided the significant taxable losses from the past to be reported.
Result was a small taxable loss on the sale, and a significant deduction for the carryovers.
I went from TurboTax's calculated tax bill of nearly $10k to a tax return of about $10k. Yes-almost $20k difference.
NOTE product scores are for TurboTax Premier.
Company will charge you extra for adding business tax information, as expected. If you no longer own the business they will charge you remove the business tax information. If you do not pay they will not allow to file electronically. They do not tell you this until you have already paid the initial charges for their services.
First thing I would suggest is don't use their refund calculator! It's waaaaay off! My return was very simple. I wanted to have a general idea of what my refund would look like, so I very carefully entered the exact numbers in... not an estimate. Exact numbers. It pulled up a refund of 1782. 00. Suffice it to say I was over the moon being in the early stages of being involved with a new business startup, I could really use that security. And then I went to do my taxes. They kept logging me off, then trying to get me to buy something other than the free version... which I don't need... Everytime I would log back on. I was at my son's place to use his internet as I typically use my hot spot. I had brought my 1098-T with me for educational expenses, but instead of asking for the info from that form they asked for a bunch of random information that I don't even think I have in my files at home. Suffice it to say I didn't end up using the educational expenses, but I didn't have much last year anyway. In the end my federalrefund dropped... after starting the session at 1400. 00... to 361.00 all because of one W2 for just over 2000. 00 of income from a side job! How is that even possible? In the end I'm disappointed and confused. I'm getting some back from the state too. I'll be fine, but I don't think I will be using turbotax next year. Bad overall experience... built up to a big let down, and too many complications and trying to sell their products!
Partner capital information does not show on 1065 K-1. Inputs made in the form section do not show in the final printing of the partners 1065 K-1.
I swear I was on there 11 hours and never even did the state yet. They are missing forms and blaming the IRS. I spent most of that time looking for form 8889 but it's not there, nor do they tell you that with a pop up or search. It has changed, maybe because it sold to credit karma, even the specialist could not assist me or answer questions about the program. They really messed up this year and is loosing a long time customer. The site is incomplete and not efficient. This year was a complete nightmare for me. I'm not doing that again.
Intuit tried to hit me with this fee when I went to eFile my state return. The fee is $40! WTF! Last time I filed using TurboTax there was no such fee. So, I decide to print my state form. Now I am told it is "unavailable"! Why? Because I did not pay their fee? BS! Somehow I did finally manage to print the state form but each page bears the message FORM NOT FINAL. Again, that's BS! How do I know? Easy... I went to my state department of revenue and there is the 3-page form. So I print it out and compare it to the Intuit state form. Page for page, line for line, word for word they are the SAME! The forms even bear the same revision date of 8/11/21. Exactly the same! No difference! I am not paying Intuit an additional $40 on top of the $60 I paid for their tax software and the $20 they want to charge me to eFile my state taxes in the first place. No F'ing way. I used TurboTax many years ago, then had to switch to an accountant because we owned rental property, which we eventually sold so I figured I go back to TurboTax. They are a bunch of sneaky bassturds in my opinion. Everything these days is about the extra, sneaky fees businesses now want to attach to increase their bottom line. I'm sick of it.
The service is fine if you never need to speak with an agent at Turbo Tax. I tried every avenue thru the call service line an was not able to get an agent.
I called to find out why TurboTax charged be a $39 processing fee.
I talked to Danielle who represented herself as a supervisor which now I'm doubting. Was told I signed a document allowing him to charge me for that. I told her it never appeared until after everything was processed and ran through so how would I ever know there was a $39 extra fee for them to take there tax preparation charge out of my federal return, in my opinion they grossly over charge for the tax returns in the first place and then have the nerve to take an additional $39.00 processing fee from a person on a fixed income that is disabled. I will tell everyone I know not to use your services and I definitely won't in the future.

I used there full service because it was free and got a worthless export who does not communicate with you his name rob with 40 yrs in the business
This company is a faint fraud. They steal your data and your money. Then refuse to allow you to even talk to a member of management. I have now reported them to the FBI, FTC and the BBB. This company should not exist. I spent 4 hours in the last two days trying to get my data removed from their systems and speak to a manager. They refused to do either. They even claimed I never had an account at all. Do not use TurboTax for anything. They will falsify your tax information to steal your money and then steal your identity and sell it to an illegal.
Their download software program (premire) 2020 is crap support doesn't help either trying to force people online.
Terrible customer support! Spent 3 hours on phone. Ttax didn't allow me to enter my correct date of birth... so they could not verify me... so even though I purchased a $90 software they won't let me use it. I have used them for over 20 years and this the first time of real trouble. Apparently ttax matches your information and won't let you in if it doesn't match. I am using the same pw as last year but they won't allow me to use ttax. I have even sent copy of my driver's license to them to prove my correct birthday... but they won't fix it so I can use the software. Absolutely B. S.!
Don't buy this product. They are scammers. If you buy the package at the store, there will be an error and you will not be allowed to use the same code twice. So, you get locked out and there goes your money. Then, if you go online, the cost is PER RETURN. So, they scammed you with the store package and then scam you when you go online. I would give it 0, but 1 star is the lowest. Buy another.
I used TT software for the first time in YEARS because I was DESPERATE to get my refund in ADVANCE because I am unemployed and a single mom. I NEEDED this advance to provide DAILY NECESSITIES for my daughter. I paid a $39 fee that I DO NOT have because of my DIRE situation, but was ok with that due to the fact that I'd get it right back with the advance. My return could have been filed for FREE, but instead I agreed to pay this fee for a service that TurboTax didn't provide.
TT representatives told me MULTIPLE times that they do not show I applied for the advance, but yet my tax return documents provided by them it clearly shows that I DID! The bank that funds this loan states they do NOT have an application on file and to call TT.
I was also FORCED to open a checking account with Credit Karma which is also owned by Intuit. So now I have a checking account with Credit Karma in which my refund will be deposited, rather than my OWN TRUSTED checking account.
Seems like a scam to me because Credit Karma and TT are both owned by Intuit! Not only did Intuit get $39 of "free" money for a service I could've paid $0 for, but now my money is going into another account they also own.
I've requested that my $39 be refunded and feel that's the LEAST your company can do, but that was also denied.
Thanks to TT I now have to wait an additional 4 weeks to get my refund and going to lose everything that I have, not to mention unable to provide for my child. I am not the only person that your company has screwed over in this exact way! There are HUNDREDS of people that this happened to.
NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE TT or Intuit products! They are a scam and a fraud!
Purchased Turbo Tax Deluxe at Costco just in case. Took 15 minutes to load on computer. Spent FOUR hours tediously going through all the steps.
Getting near the end in review it has me living in a different city?
Additionally added incorrect information. Many questions did not pertain but wasted more time.
When you contact them for online help They want add'l $ 49. And for $45 they guarantee the results. And professional tax consultant will cost $ 149.00.
What a SCAM. So I finally finished it after 4 hours. This was worse than the Driver Safety Course on line.
Sent it in by E-filing. DONE GREAT.
The next morning BOTH the State and Federal were rejected.
Go back into your account and download the latest updates.
But I did that yesterday when I began. Another 15 minutes.
Back into the program and it starts asking where you live again.
SCREW this. Glad I got it at Costco and returned it.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME...
They are worse than terrible. DO NOT USE Turbo Tax. You will be at risk. Their online service is full of problems (I just spent over an hour with their "help specialists", 2 of them, that could not figure out their system). I go back to them because it seems easier when they have my info on file... I just forget to figure in the many hours on the phone with their "specialists" that never come up with answers on how to move around in their own system. Lots of glitches, mistakes and generally a company that puts money into marketing and when it comes to making their system work, or helping customers... they have an I DON'T CARE attitude. Stay away from Turbo Tax.
This year during the download it would not accept my email address. After multiple attempts. Contacted Turbotax and started on chat, finally switched to a person. End result solved my own problem. I was told I would be charged $1.00 and would be refunded immediately. Checked my CC account found I was charged the $!, plus $28.00. I contacted them and the said my money would be refunded. This morning I find a second $28.00 charge. The $28.00 is for some kind of Legal service. I took a picture for you folks. No matter what I do it says the file is too large.
I moved to Reynoldsburg 6 years ago and apparently should have been filing/ paying school taxes- which clearly i knew nothing about. I have filed with Turbo Tax for 8 years and they never notified me that i needed to file school taxes. I should have been notified that i had a NEXT STEP. I now have unnecessary penalty fees for not filing and i am very upset about this. You have officially lost a customer.
Answer: Very difficult to get, had to call numerous times to get a response and then there was no, let me help you with that. They were uncaring about my situation, I had to pursue questioning what they can do and would end up forwarding me to departments that did not respond.
Answer: They also charged me when they shouldn't have. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They are crooks.
Answer: Yea. You can download your DOCS and bring them in. In print them out and bring them in. Turbotax saves your completed documents each year.
