When looking for a hotel, Trivago will give a list alright. Then it opens in a new window and it's out of their hands. Clicked on a room and priceline or Expedia or Booking.com comes up wanting my info for the room. Asks for a credit card number but says you will be charged when you arrive at the hotel. The email that is sent has no direct link to cancel the reservation. So if you wind up not staying in the hotel, surprise! You guessed it you're charged for the room by the hotel. Hmmmm? How did the hotel get my CC number? Stick with walking in the front door when you get to a hotel. Chances are you'll get a room and it will be the same damn price as the ripoff websites.

WARNING! Do not ever use Trivago for booking any rooms online! I went online booked 2 Rooms for 4 Nights and paid by Credit Card. After the payment was put through the confirmation came 1 Room for the wrong month! I called them 5 minutes later to explain they made an error on their website, they might as well have said Go Screw Yourself! I'm so pissed off, I explained what happened that it was a computer error, and it defaulted to the wrong date! They said well you can cancel but need to pay the cancellation fee, we said fine how much? OMG it was the cost of the room! Lesson learned big time today, NEVER USE TRIVAGO to book anything ever! So in conclusion, we did pay the fee and will never give them our business again. They have no idea how much business they just lost from us, we have rooms booked all the time all over the province, I wanted them to add more rooms for more nights and just cancel this one night and move it to another. Absolutely no business sense what so ever.

I made two bookings using Trivago in the past several months. Trivago does a good job of a search engine by gathering data, but does not make it clear that some of those third party hotel booking search results are foreign companies. Booking.com is one of those, based in the UK. Booking.com has a loosely worded "guarantee" for its lowest price, which you will not be able to dispute. It only guarantees the price is the lowest at the time of booking, and disallows any non-refundable bookings, which of course, all or most of their offers are. Therefore their "guaranteed lowest price" is not worth anything. I noted that the room price changed on my booking through them to a lower amount for my selected hotel the next day, but couldn't change my reservation without forfeiting my paid charge. From this bad experience, I learned that I could beat the hotel rates shown on the Trivago search by calling the hotel direct and negotiating with them instead of using this third party booking company. Read the numerous complaints on Booking.com before using them. Trivago would do well to provide a clear option to avoid foreign booking companies.

After doing due diligence and researching Trivago reviews, I ran the dates for an upcoming Vegas trip through their website for a particular hotel for two rooms, two nights each. I then called the hotel directly and found the same room for $50 cheaper for a total savings of $200, plus other perks like 35% off Circ Du Soleil tickets, free cancellation, and free buffet. Was so happy I booked on the spot. Trivago blows!

How on earth can you change the date on the trivago search? The first time you use it it's fine. But then if you want to. Change your dates it's impossible to move the blue and orange boxes? Why don't they have a simpler system because it just doesn't work? I can spend ages and end up with sore fingertips trying to do it! Does anyone know another comparison hotel website because I'm throwing in the towel with trivago.

Live in australia. Used trivago.com.au to book a room in cairns. They diverted me to an american web site without making it clear. Charged the wrong price plus I ended up incurring an international transaction surcharge on my cc.
Trivago have not replied to any of a number of my attempts to sort this out. Would never recommend trivago to anyone. Very deceptive business practices and zero accountability when it comes to customer service.

Dear Patrick,
As far as I can tell this review doesn't give me an online option to respond to your response. From the beginning though, before I even posted this review I emailed the address you provided. Upon not hearing back I then posted this review.

I have since heard back from a rep from trivago. Sadly the response was very cold and automatic. Basically said I should have known better. Never in the reply did your rep mention the misquote, wrong billing practices and other frustrations I provided.

To be clear, when I booked it I went to www.trivago.com.au and it clearlly stated australian dollars.
I stand by my orignal statement, for this transaction, trivago was deceptive and customer skills were and are woefully inadequate. IE more than happy to lay the blame on both me and the booking web site instead of even remotely thinking it was a mistake on trivago's business practices.

Dear Gordon,

Thank you for your feedback and we apologize for any inconveniences. The currency you were charged in and any additional fees should have been displayed on the booking site you forwarded to. However, can you please contact [email protected] with further details (booking site you were transferred to, confirmation email, etc.) so that I can further investigate.

Awaiting your response.

VERY disappointing
January 28, 2015

VERY disappointing. What was advertised as 75% off and felt like a treat was the standard price that could be booked through the Hotel!
Won't use again.

Dear Kathryn,

We appreciate this feedback.

Hotels distribute discounted rates to multiple booking sites such as Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, etc. which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from.
You are right, sometimes booking directly with the hotel can be cheaper if they are promoting special rates such as seniors discount, however, for the most part, their sell rates do not fluctuate as much as those which are sold through booking sites. Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.

I hope this helps, please email [email protected] if you have any further questions.

From my experience, there is no advantage to using Trivago. The prices shown on Trivago are mostly all the same across all the hotel booking sites. In many cases if you call the hotels directly, the price is the same and you won't have to pre-pay. Standard 24 hour cancellation policies apply. Way to go! Only a fool makes and prepays a non-refundable reservation for the same price the hotel offers.

Tried booking a hotel twice on this site, convinced I had a great deal to be redirected to a booking site for a completely different hotel and a way higher price. When I complained they fixed the link, then it happened AGAIN! Sooo frustrating wasting your time researching a hotel to book only to realise it was misleading advertising. I ain't gettin that time back!

Leave my online travel agent to trawl the web, but with TRIVAGO would just say their girl models and the voiceovers are so tewibwy gwerlwishy. Convinced the ads designed to appeal to older men and girly twirls looking for holidays in romantic places, i. E. big, plump bed.

Bad Beyond Belief
October 16, 2014

Bad Beyond Belief. I entered the dates I needed for my boss's upcoming trip. Several hotel choices appeared. I clicked on the one I wanted. I was redirected to pay for the trip, however THE DATES HAD BEEN CHANGED WITHOUT ANY WARNING! I didn't notice until after I paid the NON-REFUNDABLE fee.
Booking trips for my boss for the last 15 years and NEVER made an error like this before. NEVER had a site randomly change my travel dates without warning. TERRIBLE.

Made an enquiry and was re-directed to another website venere.com. Unknowingly at the time the date was changed on redirection and I made a booking probably as there was no availability at the hotel on said date. I cancelled immediately (within 10 minutes) when I noticed the date change. I have been charged 90% of the room cost with no hope of a refund. Disgusted. Even if this was my mistake you should be able to get a refund for a genuine mistake as I am sure venere.com would have incurred no cost.

I booked online through Trivago (Get a Room) at a hotel for the stated price, got a confirmation email that everything was booked and confirmed with the hotel... THEN found out I had been booked at an entirely (much less desirable) hotel. When I called several times and spend HOURS on the phone to try to get it straightened out, Trivago and Get a Room "customer service" said it wasn't their fault and disputed that I had received the confirmation email. When I offered to forward the email, they said they "didn't have the option to receive emails" and therefore couldn't verify that what I said was true. The only option they would offer was to cancel for a refund or book at the hotel I originally booked at for double the price. NOT HAPPY! BEWARE.

Booked a hotel with Trivago, which referred me to an outside website, and subsequently discovered I had paid more than $20.00 more than I could have obtained the advanced reservation elsewhere. This site is a total bogus scam, and their pitch man on TV accurately portrays their professionalism: totally absent.

BEWARE
September 9, 2014

BEWARE - Trivago is not a booking agency they simply refer to hundreds of other sites with No Control over the results! I just lost over $200 using a Trivago referral to AMOMA [whoever they are] when I discovered an arrival date error. I didn't want to "Cancel" the reservation, I simply wanted to change the arrival date... but neither provider would make the correction and the money's GONE.

I would like to pass comment on Trivago and shed a little light on the company. Firstly it is at least 66% part owned by Expedia so Expedia and its affiliates have a vested interest in it.
As an accommodation provider we have been trying for some extended period to get our business removed from their website as the data pertaining to the business is erroneous. Like those that use the site to book accommodation and then cant get a response I sympathize with you regarding their lack of communication. Numerous emails from us to them result in an auto generated email or a response that advises us to "sign up" and make the changes ourselves. Trivago are obstructionist, they do not respond to emails if they do it is always putting the responsibility back onto the other party or offering excuses as to why they cant do things. But then this is a company that allegedly offers free beer and breakfast to its employees why would you deal with them.

TV ads-big hype no delivery. Most room prices are the same from every booking site.
Hotels pretty much fair price their rooms. Go to the hotel site you can get the room just as cheap or even less expensively. Couldn't find any maps on the site to show where the hotel is located-really inconvenient. Save time use hotels.com, find the hotel you want.
