Dear Steve,

Thank you for your message.

However, as a hotel search and not a booking site, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.

We believe that you are referring to the booking site that you used to make the booking in your review.

If you have not already done so, please get in touch with us at [email protected] and we will do our utmost to assist you in this matter.

Kind regards,
Trivago User support.

I had a real problem booking and Trivago actually helped to solve the problem, I was impressed by the U. K. customer service office, and an individual person in that office which I do not want to mention by name on this review but wow, the willingness to help solve the issue was incredible. Thank You. Dear Ron,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Please allow us to correct you on a few things.

Trivago is a hotel search and not a booking site, you cannot make a booking on trivago. As a hotel search, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent (Otel.com in your case) and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties. We pull information from multiple (over 260) booking sites and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to book a room, they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.

Nevertheless, before displaying rates from a booking site on trivago, a background check on the company is always conducted to ensure that their customers have the opportunity find the deals offered on their website. This background check has been completed for Otel.com. You are correct, Otel.com is a Turkish company, which explains why their banking is handled out of Istanbul.

Trivago does not display deals from any site that does not pass our integration check, or where there are any reports that the site is not reliable. As we endeavor to display all online hotel offers globally, we believe that we would be doing a disservice to our users if we were to ban a booking site.

What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency. Therefore we recommend that our users take further steps to review the booking site’s rating score. All rating scores are prominently displayed next to the logo of each booking site on trivago and are continuously reviewed by fellow trivago users.

Please get in touch with us directly at [email protected] if you would like further assistance with your issue. We will do our utmost to help you.

Kind regards,

Canada

Tried Trivago for the first time. Got a very distasteful room for a horrendous price. Will stick to booking.com. Unlike booking.com, there is a third party (another booking agency) involved in the whole process. And this third party takes the money at the time of the booking. And there was hideous cancellation fee too.
Booking.com is so much better. No third party agencies. Can cancel anytime till the last hour of the arrival at the hotel and that too for free. Money is collected only at the end of the stay by the hotel.
Hugely disappointed!

Dear Bindu M.

Thank you for your message, However, you seem to slightly misunderstand what trivago is and how it works. I will try to clarify a few things for you.

Trivago is a hotel search and not a 3rd party booking site. This means users can search and compare different hotels and prices on our site. We pull information from over 260 OTAs (online travel agencies such as Expedia & your personal favorite Booking.com) and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to 'view deal', they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.

Hotels distribute discounted rates to the OTAs which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from. Our main purpose is to help users find their ideal hotel, which is why we have several different filters to choose from in order to narrow down your search results to meet your specific travel needs.
We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.

Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.

I hope that the above clears up a few things for you. If you do have any inquiries or further feedback please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at [email protected]

Kind regards,

Germany

I have no idea why ANYONE would not be happy with the service Trivago offers. It is by far the most clear website when you are stuck in teh jungle of hotel booking machines.

Booked with trivago and the website showed pictures of not what I walked into at all! The place stank, had roaches, no remote, was not clean at all. I had to go and purchase bug spray, cleaner and disinfectant, to clean the room. I had no other place to go as I had prepaid and would lose money. My companion has asthma and we asked for a non smoking room and it was obvious somebody smoked alot in that room. Neither of us slept for fear of more huge bugs appearing as did the others. Maybe your corporate big wigs should stay the night in every room you put on your site and go through the sleepless two might we had. Clean a room and try to debug it so that you could at least relax because they got you and yeah my bad I should of thought twice about something being too good to be true. Shame on you Trivago! Lesson learned for me... never trust your site again! Overall rating if I could it would be a negative 10 for sure!

Every time I clicked on a hotel it doubled in price, the advertised price wasn't available. I am not talking one, I am talking ten out of twelve advertised prices (Travelocity hotels) doubled in price once you clicked.

I was trying to get a family reunion together. The website said that the rooms were for up to 5 people, which was not true. So I made the resevation for 4 rooms. When I contacted the hotel to make sure I could get extra roll away beds for our extra person, I was told that they don't put extra beds in their room. I see that Trivago website that they are still saying you can get 5 people in the rooms at that hotel. My reservation was through Reserve Counter.com and they would not work with me at all.
Don't believe what the booking agent tells you, call the hotel and check first...
So much for having a pleasant reunion with my family.

Dear Pat,

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you had this issue with your booking.
I am afraid we are not affiliated with 'Reserve Counter.com' or 'Reservation Counter.com' so there is no way that you could have been directed to their site from trivago.
However, if you would like to get in touch with us at [email protected] with all your booking info, we would be more than happy to assist you to get to the bottom of your issue.
We look forward to hearing form you.
Kind regards,
Trivago.

Trivago man
June 27, 2015

Listen Trivago people, Please keep trivago man the way he was the first time.
You keep trying to reinvent him thinking that sexy is a suit... WRONG! Sexy
Trivago man is the first commercial look he had going on, he was preeminent of
A 70s porn/bad guy stare and THAT was his allure. He didn't know he was cute and
That also helped the allure. Making into a normal guy has you missing your mark
On the reason he was so popular to begin with. Please put him back the way he was,
Mean, sexy and ignorant of it all.

Ripoff!
June 25, 2015

Wanted to book a specific hotel in Chicago. Went to the hotel site and reviewed rates, found a discount code with a good rate of $153. Then went to Trivago where the rate for the exact same type of room for the same dates was $289 per night! This site is ridiculous and will never use it again.

Dear Helen,
Thank you for your message and we appreciate this feedback.
Hotels distribute discounted rates to multiple booking sites such as Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, etc. which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from. We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.
You are right, sometimes booking directly with the hotel can be cheaper if they are promoting special rates, however, for the most part, their sell rates do not fluctuate as much as those which are sold through booking sites. Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose. We are also currently integrating Direct Connect, an option that you might find useful, which is a service where hotels can directly display their own rates on trivago and promote themselves this way.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,

Massachusetts

I review the website for Falmouth Mass as a friend was attending a wedding. I found the Carleton Circle Motel and upon click on the pictures. I was taken back a good 20 years with their room attire. Wow just holy wow... I would not pay $50.00 a night to stay in this place. Actually I wouldn't ever stay there EVER! That is really disgusting. Trivago should be ashamed. But it is about the almighty dollar... Not about you or I the consumer.

We found a fantastic deal on Trivago for a hotel in Barcelona. Couldn't believe the deal for a nice hotel - so much so that we logged out & back in again & double checked our dates - but deal was still there. 3 nights in a nice hotel in July.
Site took us through to book on Expedia website where the prices all married up. We upgraded to a superior room. Believe we checked information & booked.
Materialised that the links between Trivago & Expedia did not work. We ended up with a $190 booking for 1 night the following day, rather than a 3 night booking for July. Hotel will not refund. Failing to get resolution from Expedia. No-one taking ownership & we are out of pocket & can no longer afford our longed for trip. Horrible, heart-breaking experience.

Unreliable index
June 4, 2015

Checking the Trivago index I found the system quite "foggy".
Despite of Trivago claims trasparency it is impossible to check the reviews: some of them are public and for some of them it is impossible to read the reviews or even to know which are the sources.
I notice it when I was wandering in the web to pick up suggestions for my next holiday and I noticed that 1 of my hotel candidates in the Trivago index was overtaken by other hotels of the same area that were positioned much below my candidate in the following index: Trip Advisor, Google+, Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia.
Then I checked again the Trivago Index, the pubblic one was coherent with what I already knew, my candidate was in much better a position than those hotel winning in trivago, but the other part of trivago index, the misterious one with the hidden sources, makes my candidate being overtaken by the others.
After wich I follow checking all the most important OTA in the web, it was quite an easy task, in none I could find any info or index that could support the trivago index. Trivago was the only index on the web where my hotel candidate was not in first position in his area and trivago was the only one where it is impossible to check all the reviews.
Why? Who knows.
Anyway, for sure I shall not take in consideration the Trivago index to decide my holidays anymore.

On February 28,2015 we used trivago to book a hotel in Naples, Florida. After choosing a hotel we were directed through trivago to the web site Easytobook.com. We booked the hotel for four nights April 24th through April 28th. Our MasterCard was charged for the $496.04 and we received an e-mail confirming the booking.
On April 23rd we called the hotel to confirm our reservations and were told that Easytobook.com had cancelled our reservation saying "due to the guest will not travel". We never cancelled our reservation. Upon calling Easytobook.com we were told the reservation was "cancelled due to a technical issue." We believe we were scammed.
After several phone calls Easytobook agreed to credit our MasterCard for the $496.04. They didn't offer to rebook at the hotel. With only 24 hours to our departure the only available room at the hotel cost us $1,130.76 or $634.72 more than the confirmed rate.
We have requested trivago and Easytobook.com to honor the original reservation rate and reimburse us for the $634.72. Both parties have refused. We find this business practice unprofessional and unethical.

My husband and I have a problem similar to Michelle F's (of 4/9/15) I found better rate thru Trivago and booked, found myself back on Expedia, then receipt showed different date than our vacation's (interestingly, the date that would have permitted refund using the refundable rate). Two different Expedia agents have been involved trying to fix "site error", and the hotel agreed to change the date, but Expedia has not followed through (nor with the $25 certificate "for our trouble"). Does Trivago intercede when trouble appears to have begun with their site?
