Was looking for low priced rooms for night of 10 Oct, check out the next day. Trivago showed rooms for under $200 but when you click on the deals, next window shows it does not exist. Refreshed browser, tried again 30 minutes later. Non existent deals still there. Tried another browser, same false deals posted. What a waste of time.

After all these false deals up for hours, I have little faith in the credibility of Trivago. A world class, quality website would ensure all deals exist. Showing the same false ones for hours isn't cutting it. Trivago can do better. Problem is it doesn't.

Dear Al,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Since there is always only a certain contingent of offers, what often happens is that the best deals can be out of stock quite quickly. This may not always be updated by the booking site in real time. Please note that we only display prices as given to us by the booking sites. Clearing your cache and cookies for more updated results is advised.

We apologize for any inconveniences caused and hope that this will not deter you from using trivago in the future. What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency. Therefore we would love you to get in touch with us directly at [email protected] with all relevant details so that we can investigate this matter further.

To help you find your ideal hotel for the best price, we are continuously updating the thousands of prices the 250+ booking sites are offering for over 900,000 hotels. As much as we would like to guarantee 100% price consistency at all times, this is unfortunately an impossible feat.

Kind regards,

Nonstop Email Spam
October 7, 2015

I have unsubscribed three times and label every email as spam, yet I still keep getting 4-6 emails from them daily. I will NEVER USE TRIVAGO! I'm in marketing... what a way to destroy your brand.

Dear Derald,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We would really like you to get in touch with us directly at [email protected] with all relevant info so that we can assist you.

If you could answer the following questions when you email us that would be great:
Are you receiving actual emails to your inbox, or are you seeing an advertisement on the side of your screen? If it is the former, could you please tell us the email address of the sender that you have been receiving the mails from? If you could forward one of the emails that would be very helpful.

If it is the later, then the email in question is actually a sponsored advert displayed in your inbox. Unfortunately, trivago has no control over whether you can block or delete these adverts. We would recommend contacting your email provider for further information on this.

We look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Kind regards,
Trivago User support.

Booked a *******@hoteling.com using Trivago. They took my money and did NOT book my room! No phone # for hoteling.com and no answers to my numerous emails.
When I contacted Trivago they played Ponticus Pilate and washed their hands claiming
"There is nothing we can do"!. Lies, lies, and more damned lies! Check out their incessant TV commercials. Stay away from this thieving web site.

Dear James,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Thank you also for getting in touch with us directly through our user support center on our site. Please bear in mind that we are in the process of assisting you with Hoteling.com directly to resolve your issue as swiftly as possible.

We have informed you already that as a hotel search and not a booking site, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties. Trivago keeps no records of the transactions made through the booking sites and cannot alter or access your booking in any way. In order to make any changes, cancel, or confirm your current reservation, you will need to contact Hoteling.com which we are assisting you with. This is the honest truth and what you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency.

On trivago, users can search and compare different hotels and prices on our site. We pull information from multiple OTAs and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to ‘view deal’, they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.

We will continue to do our utmost to assist you in resolving your booking issue with Hoteling.com.

Kind regards,
Trivago User support.

Hi.

Found much better deals. All day. This "Trivago is proven to skim off the top"

Dear Peter,

Thank you for taking time to leave a review and we appreciate this feedback. However, your above statement is false and could not be further from the truth.

Hotels distribute discounted rates to multiple booking sites such as Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, etc. which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from. Our main purpose is to help users find their ideal hotel, which is why we have several different filters to choose from in order to narrow down your search results to meet your specific travel needs.

We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.

You are right, sometimes booking directly with the hotel can be cheaper if they are promoting special rates such as seniors discount, however, for the most part, their sell rates do not fluctuate as much as those which are sold through booking sites. Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose. We are also currently integrating Direct Connect, an option that you might find useful, which is a service where hotels can directly display their own rates on trivago and promote themselves this way.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. We will be happy to assist you.

Kind regards,
Trivago User support.

Don't use either site. You will get ripped off. My first experience and it cost me 285 dollars. Elvoline is a scam company. They switched my reservation within 1 hour and then kept the money and now I can't get it back.

Dear Shawn,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Please note, as a hotel search, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.

Nevertheless, before displaying rates from a booking site on trivago, a background check on the company is always conducted to ensure that their customers have the opportunity find the deals offered on their website. This background check has been completed for Elvoline.com. They are not a 'scam' company.

Trivago does not display deals from any site that does not pass our initial integration check, or where there are any reports that the site is not reliable.

We would love you to get in touch with us immediately at [email protected] so that we can assit you in resolving this issue.

Since Trivago includes scammers in its listings, you could get cheated. You may see something that is cheaper than the well know brands like Expedia and book through them. Your credit card will be charged but you will not have a hotel room at the end of it all. This is what happened to me:

I was looking for hotels in Cancun and remembered the Trivago ads and decided to give them a try. It was very easy to use, I found prices that were cheaper by ~ $50 - $100. I decided to book through them. I tried Otel.com and my card did not get through. It said international transaction refused. So I decided to go with Hoteling.com. Everything went smoothly saw the reference number screen etc. But I never got a confirmation email. I followed up with them and received this email three days later.

"I am very sorry to inform that we were unable to confirm your booking. However full refund has already been processed and should appear on your account within the next 14 days, depending on bank clearing times."

Notice they did not offer to make it right!

Since they did not deliver, I can easily dispute these charges with my credit card company.

I took a vacation day to book my vacation. My time is worth a lot. Now I have to go back and look for other hotels and meanwhile prices would have gone up (travelling during the peak season).

I have decided to invest my lunch time to post these reviews in as many websites as possible. Please help others by reposting and sharing wherever possible.

If this will save one person from going through my experience, the precious time spent writing this review (and posting it) will be well worth it!

Dear Anamika,

As a hotel search, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.

Nevertheless, before displaying rates from a booking site on trivago, a background check on the company is always conducted to ensure that their customers have the opportunity find the deals offered on their website. This background check has been completed for the OTAs you have mentioned above.

Trivago does not display deals from any site that does not pass our initial integration check, or where there are any reports that the site is not reliable. As we endeavor to display all online hotel offers globally, we believe that we would be doing a disservice to our users if we were to ban a booking site.

We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.

Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.

What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency.

Therefore we recommend that our users take further steps to review the booking site’s rating score. All rating scores are prominently displayed next to the logo of each booking site on trivago and are continuously reviewed by fellow trivago users.

If you need any further assistance with this issue or any other then please do get in touch with us at [email protected]

Kind regards,

I booked a round-trip flight through Trivago, my first time. In the process, on the site "JustFLY," I had to CORRECT the DATE of the return flight THREE TIMES, but having done that, I expected my correct date to be on the tickets. It was not. That was when the most unreasonable, even mean exchanges started. I had purchased 'insurance' through "CSA Travel Protection"--which was a total scam--also a part of "JustFly Booking"! Their only remedy was to cancel the entire trip and reschedule--at the fee of $250 per ticket! Here I can only skim the top of the horrible experience. A trip that should have cost less than $500 ended up costing us over $1,100! So much of "Trivago travel savings!"

Trivago provides a good insight on what tthe actual booking sites are advertising for hotels. What they don't do well is provide insight to the users on the pitfalls. For instance they advertise "Free Cancelation" when they know that the actual booking sites have in fine print fees that are not understood. If Trivago really stepped up they would provide a user screen that allowed users to understand the pros and cons of the booking agents - like which ones are going to charge fees for cancellation, which ones have poor user experiences, which ones have poor credit - All attributes that would help the consumer to make wise choices - but that might be like biting the hand that feeds you******

I was searching for a 3 Star+ hotel in Bloomington, IL (there is nothing better than a 3 Star hotel there in anycase). Turns out that there were just 7 options through Trivago - with Holiday Inn Express at $105 per night. I got the same hotel for $63 per night, for the same period, from Hotwire!

I hate this site. Once you go there it will pop up with rates for hotels that don't even apply. Example one room for $208 and when you finally get to the site it is $379.
Hotels.com is much better and I have no personal interest or association with either of them.

I don't see the value of this site. However, It is nice to see that its metasearch result usually shows that all the hotel booking sites offer the same price. Anyway, why would a hotel chain cut a discount deal with any of the booking sites when everyone in the world can easily see it on Trivago or elsewhere. They would just be undercutting their better prices, making customers angry, and loosing money.
I guess if you book a room by clicking a link on Trivago, the destination site that actually booked your room would give Trivago a cut. This concept seems doomed to fail, since no bargains are apparent. And all the money for Trivago TV put up by venture capitalists will be wasted. But I don't feel that sorry form them.

Fraudulent listing
August 15, 2015

Tried to find a hotel in Nashville using the mobile website while driving from Florida to Michigan. The parameters were set to no more than 10 miles outside of city center (the maximum they would even offer!). The options that come up do not tell you details of how far from the city this hotel is - just price and stars. Click on it, takes us to Orbitz, and I make the reservation there. Turns out this hotel was almost 60 miles south-west of Nashville - an hour EACH WAY out of our way. On a 20+ hour drive, you don't want to add 2 hours to your trip. Also, the "free cancellation" stated on the website was a lie - made the reservation at 5pm, tried to cancel at 7pm, but was told I couldn't because it was after check-in time the day of the reservation (4pm). Ended up wasting $70 on a cheap hotel we didn't even go to. The worst part? Trivago has no customer service number - you call and a recording tells you to "send us an email". Complete crap. Don't use them, don't trust them.

We had a most enjoyable stay at the Clarion Resort. The view of the ocean, the bay and Coastal Highway, were amazing. Could not believe we were able to see all three from our high balcony, (14th floor). The staff could not be any more helpful and courteous. The pool staff was wonderful, (attentive and great with kids). We found the maid staff to be most accommodating and great at their jobs too. We were thrilled to be staying here and will definitely return for another visit. Thank you, Clarion Hotel for giving us a much needed rest.

But before each video I was forced to sit through the exact same, piece of $h*t 30 second ad of yours with no option to skip it, also totaling 1.5 minutes. I have used your services twice before but I will now forever boycott you for ruining youtube for me. You all suck.

I used to Trivago to find a motel in Orlando Fla to watch my son participate in the parade at Disney. The site EasytoBook had a room and a great price. I made the booking. When we arrived at the motel at 1100 pm no reservation. It was a Quality Inn and they really bent over backward trying to find the reservation. It could not be found and they were booked. I called EasytoBook and joined the electronic shuffle. Meanwhile we tried to find other rooms at other motels. There was nothing available. It was a busy week at Disney. We called over 22 motels no rooms. It turned out EasytoBook was using a sub vendor located in a place far far away. They were no help.

We finally found a room that was, lets say, quite a bit more costly over the original room. We had no choice. We stayed 3 nights.

I submitted a claim to EasytoBook with a written story, excel spreadsheet documenting cost, and a copy of the receipts. After over 2 months they offered me a $100 refund. That did not come even close to paying for the bathroom space at our new motel.

I emailed Trivago and asked for their help. They put pressure on EasytoBook. It still took another 2 months before I got a very generous refund from EasytoBook. The Trivago customer service representative kept after EasytoBook and would not take no for an answer. Trivago kept me informed of the status.

I firmly believe that if Trivago had not intervened I would still be waiting for my refund.

We recently made a reservation for a hotel in Canada. Upon returning home, we filed a claim for GST reimbursement. My Trivago reservation did not break down the GST amount on my reservation, only showed Tax Recovery Charges and Service Fees. When I contacted Trivago, the rep said it was not possible to get any more information. It appears to me Trivago can recapture the GST but the consumer cannot. We would not use the service again.

Hello JR;

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

However, this is a review of the booking site that you used to make the booking and not that of trivago.

As a hotel search and not a booking site, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.

We pull information from multiple OTAs (online travel agencies) and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to 'view deal', they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.

Please get in touch with us directly at [email protected] for further assistance with this issue.

Kind regards,
Trivago User support.
