I paid for the cover letter and resume re-write and the writer was very helpful in listening to exactly what I wanted. I missed the deadline for the edit, but there wasn't really anything I'd want to change based on what was provided for me. For $189 it gives me a good outline of what I need, should I want/need to make updates or changes in the future. I feel the writer they paired me with understood exactly what I wanted and delivered within the outlined timeframes. I had a recruiter review and she loved it and didn't recommend any changes.

The service I received was adequate if you are new to the job market and never had a professional job or resume before. However, it seemed like the resume came from a high school student proofreader instead of someone with experience marketing job candidates. I started off my resume with a great format that was unique and eye-catching but my writer changed the format to their boring, cookie cutter, "mandatory template". The writer added some vague adjectives--organized, hard working, creative, etc. to the summary. I am not a professional resume writer (and either is TopResume it seems) but I do know from experience in the job market that vague unproven statements and adjectives do nothing to market me to my next employer. I was lured into ordering a resume for $200 to have it keyword optimized. All unsolicited advertisements praised TopResume's ability to do this. However, the writer seemed to know nothing about this very basic promise. Don't waste your time with this service. Read some resume books and websites. Develop your own material with high impact action verbs. The extra time you spend doing your resume yourself will pay off when you interview. Interviewers can tell when your resume was written by someone else. Those resumes say things like "hardworking and organized".
