I had a decent resume going into the process, but I was hopeful that TopResume could improve upon what I already had and help my resume stand out from the crowd. I was paired with the TopResume writer who was a former high school English teacher. After speaking with her, I realized that this writer had no business experience. Nevertheless, I was willing to suspend my concerns and let her take a crack at improving my resume.
The first draft that came back was frightening. The writer had re-written my resume with a thesaurus, using similar words to what I had in my original resume. The new word choices made little sense and did not reflect any knowledge of business and to top it off the draft contained horrendous formatting issues. After several revisions and numerous discussions with the writer with only marginal improvement in each draft, I just decided to write off my $149 as payment for a painful lesson.
The only type of person I would recommend TopResume to would be someone who has no resume and/or poor English skills. They might benefit from TopResumes services. All others should save the 149 bucks and have your friends and colleagues provide you guidance on how best to improve you CV.

Professionalism and Assertiveness
I submitted my resume for Top Resume and I was very pleased with speed, assertiveness and professionalism of the analysis carried out by the company. I agreed with all the directions and explanations given. The examples were quite clear, I fully understood what I should explore in my curriculum and how to demonstrate my skills and work experience in order to attract the interest of the recruiter. I work in biomedical field. I purchased the professional resume package ($350) that included resume, coverletter, and linkedin. The TopResume consultant assigned to me completely lacked any experience and knowledge of my field making the language used awkward and inaccurate. In addition, she lacked attention to details- the document was full of inconsistencies and grammatical errors. She didn't even know how a publication reference should be written. The only contribution she made was creating a format. All content was written by myself. Similar experience with the cover letter. I will never use this company again.

A "resume expert" critiqued my resume, and tore it to shreds. She said that it wasn't polished, worded properly, and didn't scan well in Applicant Tracking Systems that Hiring Managers use. It spooked me because I'm actively job hunting at moment and want to best possible advantage to find a position before I leave my current one.

I emailed the woman several times over three days asking her some questions about the service, and she never get back to me. I then tried to use the chat service on their website to get some information, they also never responded.

Then I did some more research and found some bad reviews, complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and most importantly the article I mentioned above.

The article showed me that they use the same critiques for everyone. My review had some of the same "problems." Word for word sometimes, even though the critiques were supposedly written by different people.

Knowing now that they use stock critiques, and that you're not getting personalized help, I am so glad that they have a terrible response time. If that woman had gotten right back to me when I emailed her, I would've paid and gotten scammed, because they played right to my fears that I have an inadequate resume that won't get me hired.

Wonderful experience. They took my work experience and created a resume that I could not have even imagined doing myself. It was like Brandon C. Was my coworker at one of my previous jobs - he described what I had done perfectly. The process is very interactive. I quickly received the first draft, made some notes, sent it back, and soon I had a revised draft to view. I had my resume written with absolutely no understanding of what I do. There were added skills that I didnt even have. If ever questioned by a hiring manager I would have embarrassed myself. I pleaded the writers to do their research before writing my resume but they failed horribly.
I had my resume rewritten and the rewrite was even worse. I wish I could show you the samples. They write the resume for a machine to read full of splashed keywords in sentences. And I can with all that I didnt get an interview when I tested the resume out.
So take the advice or lose the money and remain disappointed. Only you can describe yourself best, and not someone who doesnt know you or your skills.
Id recommend them to ppl who want generic/basic resumes like for sales or admin roles. If you have a specialized background then avoid topresume like the plague.
