Please stay away from thumbtack, they are rats where they charge you for fake jobs and pose as clients. Sometimes they are people from Google Server. They will do anything to keep all your money. At first, they can give you two or three jobs where it is not even safe. That you are going to get it and then they start putting fake clients where their phones don't even work and they don't return messages either and those who speak well about the application are the same ones from thumbtack who pose as workers …. Runnnnnnnn awayyyyyyyyyy
I have finally figured out how they generate the fake leads, (I also called them ghost leads) yet technically Thumbtack can say they are not fake. When a customer goes on the site and chooses the pro that they want, in order to proceed when that Pro responds, Thumbtack forces the customer to choose two or more other Pros to contact first. Unfortunately those other Pros are now paying for a lead that will go nowhere and the customer is being hounded by Pros that they were not interested in. I have confirmed this with some of my customers and seen a customer review online that echoed the same experience. The only one that wins here is Thumbtack. It's even worse now that we are forced to accept instant bookings against our will. I had someone view my account as a customer to see if all of the options...instant booking, request a quote, check availability, were showing. Funny thing is that instant booking is really the only option easily available anymore. Go figure! So instead of just being honest and saying they're going to up our lead prices, they pretend to give us an option that doesn't work for everybody so that they can double or triple the cost of leads now. So now we're getting fake leads for double or triple the cost of the previous leads. And if the lead is fake and it's booked on your calendar you cannot get it unbooked and so therefore no one else can book on that day. This whole system is a huge mess.
I have had some really great customers come from this site but that does not justify the amount of money that, in my opinion, has been stolen from me from these unethical practices. It's such a shame that somebody cannot take this over and run it right. It really could be a great platform for small businesses but I do think that many will leave with this instant booking nightmare that they have forced up on us.
When I was first on Thumbtack I used to get about a hundred views a week. When they changed to this new system of paying for higher amounts for leads it suddenly dropped to about under 15 views per week, and I've been hired many more times and have many more reviews and when I first started so that doesn't make sense. Whoever came up with this new system is really hurting my business. I don't know why they would do this. I even upped the leads cost I am willing to pay but no change in views. Customer service has always been very helpful but even they cannot really explain it.
TERRIBLE COMPANY. WE ARE A REPUTABLE LICENSED EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY HAVE COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS SOME COST IN THE $30,000.00.
A CUSTOMER DID NOT LIKE OUR CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AVERAGE PRICE FOR AN INITIAL CONSULTATION AND STARTED LYING ABOUT THE COST OF OUR SERVICES WHICH WERE ALL CLEARLY DETAILED WRITTEN IN THE ORDER SPECIFYING WHAT WAS INCLUDED AND WHAT WAS NOT INCLUDED. CLEARLY THE CUSTOMER A WOMAN ABOUT 50 YEARS OLD DID NOT READ THE ENTIRE ORDER BEFORE PAYING AND LATER ON MADE ASSUMPTIONS OF A CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY SHE IS NOT SPECIALIZED ON. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE WHO INCORRECTLY MISJUDGE. BUT HEY AN INCORRECT 1 STAR REVIEW FOR A 1 STAR REVIEW. SUCH AN INMATURE GAME. WE WAISTED TIME CREATING OUR THUMBTACK PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT FOR NOTHING; DO YOU REALIZE TIME IS VALUABLE? IT TOOK US OVER 2 WEEKS TO FILL OUT ALMOST EVERYTHING ON OUR THUMBTACK PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT FOR THUMBTACK NOW TO DO AN INCORRECT MISJUDGEMENT AND DELETE OUR THUMBTACK PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT. OUR DELETED THUMBTACK PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT STILL SHOWS UP IN GOOGLE AND WHEN SOMEONE CLICKS IN IT, IT LOOKS AS IF OUR COMPANY IS A SCAM AND OUR THUMBTACK PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNT WAS SUSPENDED. SICK OF PEOPLE. BUT NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE MY MORALS. THE CUSTOMER WHO LIED REQUESTED A NEW FULL 3D INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN SERVICE FOR A 9,000 SQUARE FEET LOT HAS A 3,000 SQUARE FEET PROPERTY IN IT; NOW YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THIS SERVICE WOULD COST?. MIND YOU THE SIZE OF THIS LOT AND THE CUSTOMER WAS EXPECTING US TO CHARGE THE CUSTOMER LIKE $3000.00 OR $4000.00 FOR A NEW FULL 3D INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN SERVICE. TO ADD ON THUMBTACK THE CUSTOMER NEVER PAYS TO GET A CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL BUT THE CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL DOES PAY PER CUSTOMER ABOUT $35.00-$100.00; SO WHY IN THE SKY WOULD THE CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL BE WRONG WHEN WE ARE THE ONES PAYING HERE? -6 STAR REVIEW TO THUMBTACK. BE AWARE OF THE TRUE SCAMMER OF THUMBTACK. THUMBTACK HAS A LOT TO LEARN.
Booked a photographer thru Thumbtack. The session was cancelled due to force majeur. Rebooked the session. Few days later he did not reply to the emails or the texts. Days later he replied he was out of country. He did not refund us the money. Called thumbtack they said they are third party and they cant do anything. Then why are we booking thru you! A rip off!
Thumbtack charges me $180 for 2 jobs I didn't even get told them I didn't make any money didn't offer me a refund as a struggling American this saddens my heart that I trusted thumbtack with my card info for them to keep charging me and still want trying to charge me before I Locked my card I had to call my bank to report them but thumbtack doesn't refund you like they say for jobs you do not get I THINK THEY SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS THEY ARE REALLY SCAMMERS READ REVIEWS……. Because I wished I would have before using the app to make money as an at home mom which they take advantage of you.
I booked movers via Thumbtack, and during the move, they caused damage to my refrigerator and flooring. Contrary to what they claimed over the phone, it turned out they didn't have insurance.
When I reached out to Thumbtack to claim their Guarantee, as I'm a member, they denied my request. They cited the lack of an itemized scope of work, which seems unreasonable because property damage should never be part of a legitimate moving company's service.
I feel the guarantee offered by Thumbtack is misleading and heavily biased in their favor, leading to a high likelihood of them not honoring it.
0 STARS! Poor lead generation. Charges out the butt for leads, customers cancel and then the company can't refund the money. Charges such a high rate for leads, the customer ends up having to take the cost or the jobs aren't worth doing. Customers make fake leads then we can't get refunded from Thumbtack. List goes on and on. What a poor performance from this lead gen company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL LIE, ROB AND STEAL YOUR MONEY! Save your time and go to Angies or someone else!
My research firm was fraudulently induced to provide highly proprietary information with the oral understanding of the fee my firm would be paid. They then used that information generating over $100,000 in profits for itself. They told me they had no intention of paying the agreed upon fee or any fee at all.
Be particularly leery of their deputy general counsel Matthew Fairty, who, based on the above described experience, I have concluded is a bona fide devious cheat and liar.
After this company defrauded our company, we took a look at their so-called positive reviews on Trust Pilot. Because they looked suspicious we commissioned a 34 page analysis of those reviews. The conclusion was that many of their "positive" reviews appear to be bogus, thereby defrauding consumers who rely on those bogus reviews to do business with the company.
I hired movers through Thumbtack. The movers overcharged my credit card by $500.00, broke an antique chest, and still Thumbtack did nothing. The mover told me it was $135.00 per hour, no matter how many hours. In actuality, they charge $202.50 after 8 hours, and when I asked, he specifically stated it was $135.00 per hour, no matter how many hours. Their guarantee is complete CRAP, and the customer service "specialists" are as coherent as a turd! Stay away!
I've had excellent service from my Thumbtack projects, but learned a good lesson; when you are quoted a price ensure to ask if it's for the entire project, or if you are going to be charged per hour. Ensure to ask upfront before committing
Corporate greed for maximum profits and control have both ruined thumbtack services for pros. I called it a few years ago, knew it was only a matter of time. Oh well on to the next. I've along with many have outgrown them. They will sell their company or go under within next couple years.
They create duplicate accounts to sell duplicate leads to people, and when you request for a refund that was paid twice. They say they won't refund you. Thieves.
This company is cheating and making money without providing to their own customers. The thieves! The leads are unreal, the customer phone numbers they provide are fictitious!
I had several customers contacted me and they never read the first message or respond at all, thumbtack refused to refund. I've only got 2 real customers since I've signed up for a year.
Thumbtack charges so much money for leads, sometimes leads are over $100 and they're completely refuse to refund any money for the jobs that weren't confirmed.
It's scam 100%. In the legal state there must be no such scammers.
JJM Construcion was a pleasure to work with. Their manner was very professional. The quality of their work was exceptional. Very clean. Stephanie was great from start to finish. Thank you! Dotty D
We joined as a professional to help get more local landscaping jobs and thumbtack charged us without us know for information to potential customers that were FAKE/SPAM.
After calling the people that we're supposedly interested in having landscaping done, we called them and nothing! This person said they never requested a quote or landscaper to call them for a quote.
After finding out this company has a bad history of selling fake information we called up our bank to dispute the charge on the AUTOMATIC payment that they charged us on the AUTOMATIC/RANDOM lead that was interested for over $20, we dispited the charged. A couple weeks later, we had the charge come back to us because apparently it wad a real lead and thumbtack just wants their money and does NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AND STICK TO YELP. TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH THIS COMPANY.
I do not recommend using thumbtack.
As a pro or if you are looking for services.
Anyone who has thumbtack should delete it! You been warned. Don't get robbed because you use thumbtack. Stay away
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
