Don't fall for it. Whether you're a customer or a pro, it doesn't matter because the meth head "pros" will sit there making fake phone numbers and fake accounts all night making fake leads knowing the pros get charged for it and thumbtack doesn't verify the numbers... they do make money on each lead though. For everyone's sake I recommend staying clear of this site. The one time I got a refund even an apology was when a customer they sent me (and charged me for) offered oral sex in exchange for payment for services. Gross!
We joined back on April 2023 and I still haven't had lead from thumbtack and what's worst you could never speak to a person there.
I've been advertising my company on Thumbtack for almost 6 years and I have nothing but great experiences working with them. They have great lead pricing, excellent customer service when you need it and I look forward to many more years of being one of their top pros! Overall and on every level= EXCELLENT and I recommend you give them a chance if your a business owner looking to grow!
I have been using them for over a year and became one of their top pros. I have been keeping a 5 star rating and top pro for quite some time. But to tell you the truth I'm so tired of throwing money at it. I have been paying more and more for leads and when it comes time to get refunds is trash. They don't care if is a real lead or not. They will tell you on their website that refunds will happen if the person never really replies or cancel the job. When you try to do it there is no refund they just ignore you. Also don't even try to contact customer service, they will take all your money and not even give you that. They will not answer messages or text and really only have an automated system that doesn't do anything really. At this point really considering spending my money somewhere else, this people don't care about their pros at all and it sucks because we are the ones that pay
They stopped providing refunds about 2 years ago. Today, I received notification from them that they reviewed my request for a refund and it is not eligible. The lead they gave me last week was a fake telephone number. There is no way for me to be able to contact the customer, and the customer didn't reach out to me. They didn't tell me that they were able to verify that person exists or provide me with the correct phone number. If that isn't eligible for a refund, then what is?
Bait and switch at its best they lure you in and before you know your hard earned money is being taken by the thousands. No real customer service to talk to. They leads are fake and sometimes customers have booked but they still try and get you to book a service in order to take money from you …. Waiting on the class action lawsuit! Only reason I gave 1 star is I could not give 0
I've been using thumbtack at a business owner for over a year. It started out really great, but I get charged quite a lot for leads that are not in my preferences or for jobs that I even do. They used to be really great about refunding for these issues, but now all I get is an automated response gaslighting me saying that it is in my preferences when the job is categorized wrong on their end. From what I hear the owner of home advisor is the same person who owns thumbtack. Run as fast as you can that company is notorious for lawsuits & scamming people with fake leads.
Thumbtack used to be good now they send you scam numbers which they still want you to pay if I can give it -0 I would stay away to paint 1 room they want to charge $60
On thumbtack advertising show refund if costumer don't answer but that lie i paied like 1000$ and get like 3 jobs and the amount i did with that 3 job i paied 1000$ i spend with leads and the rest of the money leftover is not enough to pay my days work, is very bad this app
I down loaded app and they charged me 59.00, I don't get any job and I never get my money back. The number they gave to me to contact to customer service, they don't have it. Such rip-off!
Thumbtack generates numerous accounts to send false leads (potential customers) to the "pros." With each generated account, they send one "lead" to five pros. Each pro is charged $30 or more for each "lead," which I have experienced and observed, multiple times, every day I was a member of the platform. Shameful, deceptive and unethical practices. Customer service is poor, nearly non-existent. And, don't expect any refunds...you won't get any.
Thumbtack pro used to be good a few years ago. But it's a total money grab. They tell you that they keep the competition low. However, I notice I'll get a lead. And 5 people have already been contacted or have responded. Often times when I reach out to the customer the number is not valid or they are not looking for the services that I offer or they don't responded at all. This leads me to believe that these leads are not legit. Thumbtack collects $30 to $50 on leads for the service that I offer. So imagine they're collecting this from 5 or more pros and none of us are getting the business. Total scam.
Reached out for handyman help to install a window air conditioner. As an elderly woman, it's difficult to lift alone. Installation is simple, basic and on the ground floor. These handyman get $50-$75 per hour. The job would take no longer than 10-15 minutes. The quote given was $250. This is more than the cost of the air conditioner. Thumbtack takes no responsibility for idiots.
I asked a Neighbor for help, and it cost me one bottle of water.
I do not recommend this company for either a consumer or a pro.
You'll find a needle in a haystack much quicker!
Untrustworthy.
I have spent $150 so far and have gotten zero qualified leads. Of all the requests, I have gotten about 2 real ones - which still didn't lead to anything because they were also sent to 6-7 other professionals. These cost anywhere from $30-50 a lead, and they are making hundreds of dollars off of each lead to the professionals. I have caught them using fake images of people to say "This is how my last projects went", but a reverse google search would show the real source.
I RECENTLY HAD GREEN FOR LIFE LANDSCAPERS MY YARD WAS REALLY IN NEED FOR HELP. THEY CAME TO THE RESCUE. THEY TRIMMED TREES, MOVED PLANTS REMOVED OVERGROWN SHRUBS,REMOVED ALL TRIMMINGS I WAS SO HAPPY WITH THE JOB. I COULD NOT THANK THEM ENOUGH.
Been a pro for 2 years. Thumbtack is a ferocious greedy business, that will help you get going when times are good. But as the economy slows down while expenses continue to rise, your competitors get frustrated they're not getting leads and start looking at their competitors. Then your competitors send fake leads themselves thinking if they send enough, you won't be able to afford staying on thumbtack.
Thumbtack is well aware of this practice and somehow claims that by asking customers for a phone number, and not even verifying the number, the leads are DEFINITELY real, even though in reality, they're just competitors. They don't care though since they have your credit card and will charge it at their own discretion.
When times are good, thumbtack gives new pros a chance. But when times get hard, so does affording to use it for leads.
I signed up on Friday set a budget kept getting emails over my budget the phone number on the website doesn't work. Such a rip off emailed client services they said they can't help me! Cancelled my account still kept getting emails and charged, shame on this company taking advantages of their customer and no accountability!
I HAD EXISTING GRANITE COUNTERS. I NEEDED TO REPLACE A STOVE AND IT WOULDN'T FIT. 1" OF THE COUNTER NEEDED TO BE CUT OFF OF EACH SIDE OF THE OPENING. I WAS A BIT OF A CHANCE BECAUSE THE COUNTERTOP COULD HAVE EASILY BROKEN OR CRACKED. JOSE AYALA ARRIVED ON TIME. HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL. I WAS A BIT RELUCTANT BUT HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL.I AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM FOR ANY KIND OF STONE, GRANITE,TILE WORK. YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED WITH HIS WORK. I knew that this job would cost a bit on the hi side because of the risk of the granite braking but he was very fair. I highly recommend Jose Ayala.
My name is Chuck and I have a junk hauling business in Tucson Arizona. I started using thumbtack back in 2019 and they have been awesome until the last few years. They are no better then Angie now. I had a customer book a $50 job and thumbtack charged me $41.99 for the lead and refused to refund my money. I used to get 2 to 4 leads per day and close over 75%. Now I am lucky if I get 2 per month. What ever you do, do not use this platform.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
