Waiting to speak to a "specialist" as I type this.
29 minutes and counting.
SO, if you're reading this--BEWARE--once you decide you want to cancel membership it will NOT be quick. It will not be easy. This tactic is designed wear you out & dissuade you from your original realization that YOU ARE NOT SAVING MONEY with thrive... not really. Don't lose hope. Sit through the repetitive recorded sales pitch--that voice hammering away at your eardrums.
SO, you FINALLY get through to someone--a "specialist". OK.
They will try to rope you into a six month /$29.95 membership.
If you DO agree to it & DON'T use it more than a few times you're just wasting money. I agreed... I wasted money. That's why I am here--6 months later to cancel once and for all.

My point is this, with memberships in general--and this one specifically--1 of 4 things will happen:

1. You will magically remember to call back within the 6 months, wait 30 mins+ to speak with someone, cancel & be done with one unnecessary online membership.

2. You will notice a charge on a credit card that you believe you didn't authorize (which you did--but just forgot about). You will call to try to get it reversed (which will not work). You will tell them to cancel all future renewal charges to that credit card. You will be out $30.

3. You won't ever notice the charges to your credit card and continue to make yearly donations to the thrive corporation because you have so much money/so much to deal with that $60 goes unnoticed.

4. You actually use the membership, learn what really is less expensive through them & save money. This is probably the least likely scenario.

I waited 39 minutes today before a "specialist" answered my call & finally confirmed my cancellation.
The upside to that rather long wait is that I will not waste $60 tomorrow on membership renewal!

Lesson learned about memberships.

Wow, I am incredibly disappointed in Thrive Market. I only signed up for the free trial under the guise of $20 off my first three orders. Well, I placed my first order and although my total right before checkout displayed the $20 off, they charged me in full anyway! After a lot of back and forth, the order was finally cancelled and I got my refund weeks later. When I decided to try again I was told I am not able to use ANY coupons because I cancelled my first order that I was overcharged for. (What happened to the first three orders?) Now I am trying to cancel my free trial before they charge me and it is like pulling teeth. Don't waste your time with Thrive.

The Trial is NOT Worth it. You can only cancel by calling, it takes forever to get through and then you have to CONVINCE them to cancel the trial, they do everything to keep you - extend, shorter membership etc. Took 15 minutes and I'm still not sure I was successful.

Lied and then were incredibly pushy on the phone. Didn't realize buying a jar of honey constituted a membership. Didn't realize they'd auto charge my card. Didn't realize they'd do everything in their power to stop me cancelling the account.

Don't do it

I just tried to cancel a membership I didn't know I had. Operator eventually called me back, but then hang up on me after I told her twice that I wanted to cancel. This really seems like a scam. And people say to cancel over the chat line, but when I tried that it said no one was there to chat (at 9:30am?).

Terrible Membership Policy

Any company that does not clearly have a way to cancel your membership is malicious in my book. Especially ones that have a free trial and then make it too difficult to cancel. There wasn't even an option to cancel my membership and I had to call just to cancel. The guy on the phone was nice but you can't pull this type of sketchy membership practices. Just be a good company and the business will come.

Ok. So I've been seeing a lot of you have had similar problems and have been getting charged a renewal fee for a membership. I had the same problem.
I got the email notifying me at 1am in the morning, which was strange enough.
I emailed the company to request a cancellation on my account. No reply. I went onto their site and a chat bubble came up so I began talking with customer service. They were surprisingly fast with responding and after them trying to persuade me to keep my membership, i finally got them to cancel it.

Try doing the online chat. I've heard calling them is a pain in the butt.

Just discovered that I am being charged for a membership that I did not know I had. Just happened to notice it on my account. I called to cancel it, but the recording says i can stay on the phone and they will be with me in 60 mins. Or I can request a call back. Still awaiting the call back. A very deceitful way to do business... I would not give them even 1 star but you have to pick one to submit.

First of all, let me say that I like (or liked, since I'm not a member anymore) a lot of the items sold at Thrive Market, and they have very good prices. I am missing the Thrive brand coconut flakes cereal, I got really addicted to that when I was a member.

I haven't experienced as much of the negative stuff as other reviewers, although I did experience some - like getting an unexpected charge or something when i first joined. I got it resolved, but it was kind of a hassle.

The main thing i don't like is the membership fee. It is pretty high for what you get. So it is a bummer when renew time comes around and it is, Ouch! Sixty dollars!
I think it is overpriced, personally. One reviewer mentioned that is is plainly disclosed that there is a membership fee. I don't deny that, but I still don't like it.
I feel like I am being gouged for being a loyal customer and spending a lot of money at their store.

Some say that other places charge a membership fee too, namely Costco and Amazon. I don't think the these are valid comparisons, because with those two, you get vastly more benefits than just a good selection of products for a good price.
For one, you can shop at Amazon even if you don't buy Prime. But if you do join, you get loads of stuff like Prime Video and fast free shipping. With Costco, you get better warranties and you can return things easily if you don't like them. If you get the higher cost membership, too, you can earn that cost back, so the membership can pay for itself (not just in lower grocery costs, which is supposedly how you get paid back your fee at Thrive).

The prices are very good, in general, at Thrive. But in my opinion, it would be much better if they raised the prices slightly and eliminated the membership fee, so you wouldn't have the feeling that you are not appreciated as a customer and that you are getting slightly ripped off for shopping there.

I was a fairly satisfied customer. However I needed an emergency surgery a few weeks before hurricane Harvey hit. Then I was laid off temporarily, but found only a 2 week expired coupon for 30% off. I did one of those live ask, and they only way I could have afforded my cart (and it actually end up being almost exactly The same as amazing prices instead of their usual higher prices) was for me to get the 30% off, they did offer me 20, even 3,20 % off but would not give me the 30% that I would have used had their enot been a hurricane or a surgery. So I discontinued my membership and will not be returning again. I feel like had they really cared they would have just offered me the one 30% off

Learn to read, people!

I've enjoyed my thrive membership. People are giving it negative reviews due to it's members fee, however it is NOT small print. They make it more than obvious that it is a member fee site. It states in large print on their main page, as well as at the top of every page you look at, plus when you go to check out for your first time it explains during check out process that it is a trial! Don't blame the site for your inability to pay attention to clearly written words that are repeated for you several times. Also along with reading try to use a calendar so you know when to cancel your free trial, dont complain when they don't tell you your trial is up. Take responsibility for your own actions! Geez! The reason i give 4 stars and not 5 is only because i haven't been completely satisfied when i have contacted customer service about an order, but besides that one time I've had great experiences with them.

I love the idea of Thrive but they are not living up to they promises. I and my husband have ordered often and have been satisfied but today something I cannot tolerate happened. I received an email about a special offer for a free bag of raw cashews if one buys a bag of almonds this morning. By the time I got around to ordering it was 9 pm - a mere 13 hours after the email arrived to my inbox. But as often as I clicked on the offer nothing was registered in my cart. I learned from the online chat that the stock had run out. But when I went to the two items both were available for purchase. How is this ethical? Very disappointed and not sure I want to have anything to do with a company that behaves like that. (If the offer is limited, they should say so. Like "Offer available only for the first 50 buyers" or at least honor the offer for 24 hours if they have the items in stock.)

Thrive market membership is $59.99 a year I have been paying without knowing. I caught it on my credit card this year and they had to reverse it. I was not aware or using this membership they refused to reverse my charges for past 2 years. They are crafty and cunning and robbing hard working people. I have blocked them of horrible business they are thieves. I want to report them to better business bureau.

I ordered one item from the site a year ago. I then cancelled the membership during the 30-day trial period. They did not charge me for a membership after the trial ended. But TODAY, a year later, they charged me $60 to "renew" my membership when I never bought it in the first place. Getting through to customer service seems to be impossible.

Edit: I finally got a call back, and the man said that I would get a refund. I will update this post again.

Edit2: I got a refund confirmation a few hours later. If this happens to you, contact them ASAP. If I had waited, I suspect that I would have gotten store credits instead.

Poor customer service

I have called in, which wasn't easy to get ahold of someone, and cancelled my membership but months after cancelling they are emailing me asking me update my billing. I talked to their customer service twice when the first person could not cancel my membership. They told me it would be taken care of but I keep getting emails from them trying to get me to update my billing so they can charge me again for a service I do not want.

I can assure Pepper C. That I know how to read - their terms do state that they'll automatically renew your yearly membership. That's why I made sure to call and cancel mine in July 2017, a month before it was set to expire. Nevertheless, they charged my card the full $59.95 yearly fee just last week, and welcomed me back! Phone calls to "customer service" go unanswered - they won't even return calls when I request an automatic callback.

I've canceled 3 credit cards and somehow they charge my new card every time. I'm going to have to report the 4th case of fraud to my bank account later today. Im ready to cancel my bank account and only use cash for the rest of my life. If anyone is interested in doing a group lawsuit on this company for lost time dealing with this bull$#*!, count me in!

Deceptive billing
August 31, 2017

I ordered some coconut oil last year. I called and cancelled my trial within the allotted time. I was assured that it was cancelled on the phone. Here it is a year later, I get billed for membership. A quick search online shows this happens often. I would not recommend anyone get involved with this company.

Rip off company!

Charged me $60 for 2 jars of Peanutbutter. They don't make it clear that they automatically sign you up for their scam of a membership and give you no way of removing your payment information other than calling their slow number! Stay away.

Thrive Market is awesome. Everyone who is complaining about being charged $59 for their annual membership fee should really learn to read. On the front page of their site and all across the site it clearly states that it's a membership. At any rate, the membership is totally worth it. Plus, they give you a thirty day free trial to see if you like it. Great! Sign me up! The only problem I have with them is that they should be able to process and ship orders quicker to compete with Amazon. Amazon has every single product Thrive does and I can get it the next day or in two days. With Thrive, it takes a week. That's just too long for me.
