ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. Buyer Beware!
May 3, 2017

Customer service is horrid! I placed an order for an item, was sent someone else's order. I returned it with the label they provided me but never received the item I ordered. ThredUp received the item I ordered back but instead of sending it to me they refunded the price I paid less shipping! I wanted the item and I certainly do not want to pay shipping for something I never received! A nightmare trying to communicate through email and it has now been a month of emails with absolutely no satisfactory result!

I ordered 3 pairs of jeans. I paid $5.99 to order them, and $9.45 to return them because none of them fit. So I am out over $15 for nothing.

If you only prefer to shop consignment online, this site is great. I prefer to try items on and see them in person. The pictures on this site are not that great, and not helpful for me... I have had to return several items that did not appear like the pictures. I also feel shipping is expensive and slow. I have always had good customer service, I also appreciate the honesty in item descriptions and you can often find a good deal.

When you have such bad reviews, why do you continue to rip people off by doing things like putting their clothes on consignment without their permission? You all are the absolute WORST online consignment store I have ever dealt with. Your clothes for sale are dated, noted as stained or frayed yet you won't accept clothes for the same reason. I have a credit with you and there is not ONE single item on your website that I can even pretend to like. You should be ashamed.

Total ripoff
May 1, 2017

They advertised a 40% off coupon code which adjusted the amount in my cart accurately and correctly, yet I was charged the full and entire amount. I'm not the only victim according to my research. Second, the majority of their clothing is not described accurately as far as measurements, sizing, materials, fabric and so on. I have several friends who sent them high end, new designer items only to be told they weren't appropriate for the website, and they turned up on their site months later. I ignored my friends' complaints against my better judgment and made a purchase from the site. Unfortunately, I was scammed and charged the full amount though my cart showed the discount per the code. I would HIGHLY recommend shopping at Savers, Salvation Army, Goodwill or any other thrift shop versus this website.

I went to them when I saw a TV comercial, found some things to buy went to check out, put in all my info, and it kept telling me my info was wrong, I believed it, so I called the CC co. They assured me nothing is wrong with card, then went to look for treadup contact info for help in checking out... all they offer you is "A MAILING ADDRESS" so I'm suppose to write them "A LETTER?" never coming back here

They play games with the money they owe you. Instead of just sending you a check, they all of a sudden make new rules. I lost a lot of money.

I have sent several bags to thred up. For the most part I was happy. I did have an incident where I sent in some St. John jean capris in and I got NOTHING for them. They cost about $200 new. I gave up on thred up for about a year or so and just send some stuff in, the last bag I sent on was acceptable. Understand that this is a business and TU wants to make a profit. There is a tool you can use to evaluate how much an item will receive. If you aren't cool with this, sell items on your own. My biggest complaint is how long it takes for them to evaluate your bag and give you credit. The whole process takes about a month or so.

Awful experience selling clothes with ThredUP. In order to sell and get my items back, I was charged $21 just for the privilege of having them look through my clothes. I sent them a large bag of clothes, with several brand new designer pieces, everything cleaned, pressed, and nicely folded. They took 11 items, giving me less than a dollar for many of them, and then resold them online to customers for 10-15x the amount they gave me.

In the end, after all the fees, I walked away with a measly $13.78 for 11 items, which included a brand new BCBGMAXAZRIA silk dress and a brand new BCBGMAXAZRIA top.

When I got my "Return Assurance" bag back, all of the items they didn't want were balled up like garbage, including several expensive designer pieces. I complained and asked for my $10.99 back, since my clothes needed to be now dry cleaned and pressed in order for me to try and sell them elsewhere. They refused my simple request. Terrible company, awful customer service.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT SELL TO THREDUP! I wish I had read reviews online before selling to them. Just go to your local resale or consignment shops. That way if you are offered a crappy price, you can walk away with your items still intact, and you don't have to PAY THEM for just looking through your stuff! Seller beware! (Also, ignore ThredUP's bogus A+ rating on BBB. If you go to their BBB page, it's chock full of negative reviews and complaints.)

Dear sellers...
April 28, 2017

I see a lot of you complaining that you're not getting enough for your things. Well I can tell you why and I haven't even shopped there. It's cuz people aren't going to pay out big bucks for "used" items. Yes... Unless I have them in my hands to see, they are "used". People will just shop at local shops and yard sales before they pay out the behind for clothes they can't even see. So if you wanna make more money, try having a yard sale or open an eBay store. You might get better results.

I will not be recommending thredup, I sent in $1,190 worth of clothes (DESIGNER), many with the tags still attached and never worn, they decided to pay out for those items $51 minus shipping and other fees which left $31!

They are now reselling these 12 items for a total of $351! You then wait 14 days to get your $ owed to you BUT to get that $ you can only do a Thredup prepaid visa which takes up to another 14 days or PayPal where they charge you another fee!

I will be taking anything I have in the future to the resale shop down the road from me who gives their profits to special needs children and does not screw the seller on prices! This is a complete ripoff!

They really mislead you regarding their return policy. I have $75 that they owe me to my card which they will not return to me! I have an email into their customer service department - waiting for a response two days later. I will not use them again.

I sent two bags to thredUp. I got a payment of about $1.00 an item. All my items were name brand and in excellent condition. I then watched them sell for about $12.00 or 15.00 dollars. I thought I would be making a little money on my items, but at $1.00, I should have given them away. I no longer use thredUP

Great place to shop
April 27, 2017

I'll just say that my 5 stars is for buying, not selling. Great selection, decent shipping times generally (a little hit or miss) and easy returns. The quality is always excellent.

I basically just sell stuff that I'd be donating anyway so I don't really care about the time it takes them to process bags or the payouts. But if you're looking to sell and make $ I'd say go somewhere local or another site; their system is not very efficient and the payouts are pretty small.

I sent in a bag of gently used items and a new Douney and Bourke bag along with a Ralph Lauren wallet and bag. I checked off that anything that would not be sold donated to charity because I thought I was doing the right thing.

When ThredUp finally came back with my credit, I was surprised to see that the D&B bag was not listed anywhere. I went on the site to inquire. They sent me a picture (from a distance) of the bag and told me that the bag was too used to sell. They did not include a picture of any stain of damage because there weren't any. I inquired what would be done with it (knowing that it would be "donated".) I received an email telling me that because I decided not to have the purse returned, the purse is gone. I suspect it is not on the arm of some employee at ThredUp.

I will never use that site again. They are a rip-off. Be warned.

I decided to write this review based on my shipping experiences. They charge for returns and ship through FedEx which often uses USPS to deliver. By doing this it takes forever for you to get your package even if you pay for expedited shipping. It's just not worth the hassle for me.

My Service work is done for today. Please read on ladies...

Do not order a thred up bag, get taken by free shipping, wait 3 weeks for for Thredups decision on your clothes and then not return back your items thred up said no to. Or how bout this one: place a real Prada bag in your set and see what happens; Didn't get published for sale nor was it shown as a consignment item nor the area of items thred up want going to use or return back... hmmm somebody at ThredUP was naughty!

Here's the worst: make. 50 cents on a $15.00 ThredUP selection. Yeah, that's right ladies, unless your item goes for 50.00 or more through consignment you're only going to make pennies literally to the dollar.

Cool however to shop there, but would you now knowing this info?

This Is no lie. I got bamboozled, you shouldn't too. Go to Poshmark, Mercari or Tradesy for real dough-ray-me.

Sent a bunch of really nice expensive clothes. Got $8.99 in credit, then they charged $10 for shipping. Might as well have given the clothing away. I had used it before twice, sending in worse clothing and received more money. What a scam.
