ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I have been reaching out and trying to get an email or call back for months. There is no way to contact a live person so I am closing my account!
Unfortunate you do not have better customer service!
Sent in 5 purses. Not inexpensive brands. They sold 3. They pocketed 3 times as much as I was paid. You have to jump through hoops to get paid unless you want to tune it into store credit. No way I would buy anything from them. Guess I'm just out the money plus the 2 other purses. You live and learn.
I sent a bag to their J.Crew always program. In that case, you're supposed to send either items made by J.Crew or similar brands. The bag was packed full. I could barely get it shut, and it contained mainly dresses from J.Crew, Ann Taylor and Michael Kors. All were in good condition. I could've sold them on Poshmark and probably made $15-$20 each based on other sales I've done. But I thought, why not give Thred Up a go?
Oh my God, after waiting 3 to 4 months, I got an email the other day congratulating me on the $15 I made for the entire bag. I really wish I had not sent them my dresses. I feel so ripped off, and I think they are ripping off everyone who uses their site. As far as selling clothes. If you are in it just for the environmental/recycling reasons then I guess go for it. But you would probably be doing a better deed by donating to a Dress for Success program and not corporate greed.
In a time when the economy is high and people are trying to make a bit of money for themselves, I never saw such theft. I sent 3 huge boxes of clothing, purse, shoes, all quality, all cleaned, washed, ironed and well known labels, I only get a few dollars out of it and a fraction of what sent in they took for pennies. What is the purpose of sending in a box or bag? Next time I am going to donate to Goodwill. OH-and the items they rejected, I saw for sale, by them, with no owner, and I know those are my items. They need a better system, don't you think?
Absolutely horrific business practices now. Previously consigned with them years ago and had problems but nothing like this, you'd be lucky to make 5%-10% of your items worth. Please just go to your local consignment shop. It takes over a month for them to even look at your items and they no longer offer a way of reclaiming them if you've changed your mind. There are so many better options than them.
The fee they charge takes more than you can make. You would be better off donating or having a yard sale. Try a local consignment shop. You can not get your items back with out paying for them
What a load of crap! The fine lines of you are not aware is that they basically only pay you if it is under their eligible items. If you don't look for that then you have already guaranteed a loss for your items. Then when you send them new items they do not Sell Them! They sell the items that are fairly used. Or they sell new items that are not so popular to sell. I sent in 4 very full bags! Most with tags that fit their eligible selling criteria. I only received 10 Bucks! Not to mention my last bag with three pairs of new Rothy's! Those shoes were not listed. When I wrote to them the auto response was they can send the unlisted ones back to be for a fee?! Like I paid to send this bag to thread up and now c they want me to pay to send it back? What a scam! And why wouldn't you sell Rothy's's when they are brand new but if you Rothy's's you will see that they posted the shi tty ones! There's up the public is not dumb! Maybe a little hopeful that this platform would be promising, but not dumb! It's obvious there is a scam either you guys are stealing, reselling on different sites for more, or you are just shamelessly scamming hard working people SHAME ON YALL! YALL need to be shut down for this crap! I hope you each who are involved get investigated and closed!
Thredup is a scam! They kept all my designer dresses, claimed only one sold and claimed they kept the money for processing fees. They ignored my emails inquiring about my clothing or made any attempt to keep me informed. My clothing could have been given to a charity or someone in need not for their greedy and dishonest profit. They are Basically crooks. They've been reported to the Better Business Bureau.
Don't sell your clothes here. Anywhere is better. It's cheaper to throw them away or donate, at least you won't pay shipping. They sold my clothes and told me it was "outside the consignment window" so I wouldn't get a penny.
I recently sent in my first "clean out" bag to ThreadUp. This is my very first experience with this company.
The "Clean out" bag took weeks to arrive in Georgia; it felt like a really long time. Finally my items were on the site, and on sale. The "pay outs" that are available on the items I sent in were very small, considering I sent in Talbots/Jjill clothing that was almost brand new. It feels to me that I would do a lot better money wise on ebay. The photos that are taken of each item are not great.
As for making purchases on ThreadUp, I have for the most part been very disappointed. Many (not all) of the items I purchased had a sub-Goodwill, sort of grungy/dank feel to them. Many of the items had pilling, had obviously shrunk significantly, and were more "worn" than I would ever want. While it's noble to want to thrift instead of always buying new, there comes a point where an item of clothing has "gone by" (out of fashion or quality wise), and I really don't need more junk in my closet.
All in all, I'm still waiting to see if this company offers any real benefit to me. So far I'm not impressed. If you really want to make money I would probably stick with eBay.
I think Thredup used to be a great place to sell clothes. I believe they got greedy. Now they charge so much for everything so there's no way to make money. They got popular and they screwed up.
I have been unable to cash out and have my money transferred to my bank account. NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Nor response. No phone number. Unable to chat. Sent multiple emails. No one replies.
I would not recommend Thred Up if you are looking to get money back from their sales
I sent in approximately 75 dresses- Calvin Klein, White House Black Market, Michael Kors etc and received less than $50.
They sold items for pennies. I guess read the fine lines. Better off finding another venue to sell or bag items and donate to local shelters or charities
The fees are so high and payouts are so low that you make nothing. The only people benefiting are those at thredup. Do not use them for selling items.
Mark your clothes way to high…They charge the seller processing fee and shipping fee: at the end of all that, you owe them money for selling your clothes. Don't waste your time and clothes on thredUP…
Do NOT send your clothing to this company. They have so many fees, that even IF\WHEN your item sells, you'll never see the money (especially since they usually tell you your payout amount equals, like, $3). I sent in three boxes of brand name clothes, several sold, and I've yet to receive a single dollar. I feel SO ripped off and just pissed off. NEVER AGAIN. Ugh.
I have been ordering from THREDUP for almost a year. I have never needed customer service which I was glad because I had read all of the bad reviews. But sure enough, the day came when an order was lost and thredup was NO HELP despite several emails sent to them. Not one response. And because there is no phone number, I just had to file a complaint with the BBB so order at own risk.
Had a box full of clean, ironed, new clothes from the list they sold from. Oddly, my higher quality items never listed, but my lower quality items list for pennies. Didn't make enough to cover the bag fee.
Back in 2016 or so, I occasionally used ThredUp with seldom an issue.
Then, in 2020, I sent a new pair of Irregular Choice shoes that cost me $200. They were a size 11 and too large so I sent them to ThredUp to sell and hope to get some cash or credit for myself.
That was a massive mistake.
$200 Little Mermaid flats (I mailed them in the original Irregular Choice packaging/box)
They marked them as "Disney" and sold them for $20 (?!?!)
You better believe they sold instantly to someone who knew the true value.
ThredUp has been dead to me ever since.
Boycott these crooks/hacks
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
