thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Quality through time
October 28, 2015

I started around four years ago buying clothing secind hand feom thredup. I did not know what to expect. I thought second I can't go wrong. For the first 2 years the quality, prices and shipping rates were really good. Also, I used to get 15% or even 20% codes for the amount of purchases. Around a year and a half or two the prices for the same things i always bought rised and the description tegarding the quality of the clothing was off. I rwceived better clothing before than mow, for a lower price. Not sure what is going on. I would think after the company expanding the quality would be better and we the loyal clients would get random promo codes. I would say just look at the item closely and the description. Basement items are at times not worth buying.

I decided to send Thred up a bag of clothing and give the program a try. They decided to keep 4 nice pieces of my clothing to sell but despite the fact that they ended up listing all items at an average cost of $15 each, I got just $1 per piece. I decided to use my $4 on a pair of shoes that ended up being super uncomfortable. The shipping is so expensive that it doesn't make sense to ship them back. I'll stick to zappos. Lesson learned

I love ThreadUp!
October 28, 2015

I've gotten so much stuff from ThreadUp, and at such great prices! I am not nervous to go out on a limb and try something I'm not sure about, because the return policy is great (at least on non-sale items)! I'd recommend ThreadUp to anyone, and not just for the $10 credit for successful referrals!

I did a little research on finding the best consignment stores online. Thredup was #1 in the top 10. But why? Yes they sell great things at good prices, But I don't understand how?
I have personally had experience in retail for many years. There is one thing I know. It take money to make money. Clearly No one at thredup knows this concept. People send them Great clothes and accessories and they don't except them. People send them things to make money. IF they wish to make money they would take them and use them. But,. They won't they just come up with stupid and sad reasons there are quote "Not acceptable" If they want to make more money they need to take more things and make customers happier. Isn't that what a business is all about, the customers? I recommend to buy there. Great selection of things, especially for parents with little money. Cute clothes, nice accessories. Nice bags and shoes too. But don't send them stuff, not worth the time you will put into it, or the shipping. :(

All the 1 Star Reviews sound like people who don't know what thredUP is about.
Not getting your clothes back complaints, they do return clothing. You just need to READ the instructions before you mail in your clothing. Simply check the box "if you don't sell any of this, please return it."
Not getting your clothing accepted, I'm okay with them denying clothing because that means the clothing I purchase from them is in better condition. I have never once had an issue with clothing I've gotten from them, other than sizes not fitting right but that's not thredUP's fault.
And I can't believe that anyone would get anything less then almost-new from thredUP, but if it DID happen - again it comes down to READING the website before you buy. In the notes, they will tell you exactly what is "wrong" with the piece before you buy.

Needless to say at this point, I'm a huge fan of thredUP. What few issues I've had were resolved.

The only thing that I would want to suggest is opening a Men's section.

This is a great option for people who are looking for something fresh and new to wear but don't want to spend a fortune. Also, if you're trading items in, the process is very easy. It takes a while to receive your credit but it's better than having unwanted clothing taking up space in your closet!

I have sold twice on Thredup, both when purging items before a home move. The payouts are extremely low, but the mark-up once items are listed seem high for consignment type items. I won't use them again, but would look towards Poshmark or eBay so I can make more of a profit.

My experience withy ThredUp has been very positive. I am waiting to have a bag processed so have not yet experienced from the selling standpoint. I've been happy with most everything I ordered. For the items I chose not to keep, the return process is very easy. I do see a difference in what information is on a mobile device versus the regular website and I'm not sure why that is. Even the item numbers are different. I'd like to see more consistency between devices to make searching easier. Also being able to search for pants by length would be very helpful too.

Purchased many items
October 27, 2015

I have purchased many items for myself and my children. I did request a bag to send clothes but after reading the reviews - I decided against it. I have had to deal with customer service when an item I received was a different size than advertised and it was resolved promptly. I do find it unfortunate that they email coupons && all of them require that you are a first time buyer!

I like buying my clothing pre loved whenever possible, and Thredup makes that easier! Their prices are a bit higher than the average brick and mortar consignment shop, but their selection is way better!

Great finds!
October 28, 2015

I have bought several items and am totally happy with my purchases. The only downside for me is the time spent on the computer shopping. I love that thredUP is picky about what they accept. I have not sent clothes to sell. I take mine to Goodwill locally but like buying things that are in excellent condition. I've gotten some very good designer jeans for a fraction of what they would have cost otherwise.

I have both sold and bought clothes on ThredUp, and have had great experiences with both (though I've only sold clothes once). For selling, my cleanout bag was processed in a very timely manner (~2 weeks after I sent it in). I thought the price I received for the clothing (not a ton of designer stuff, mostly just decent quality stuff from Target and Lane Bryant) was low but fair, and clearly consistent with what they describe on their website. They probably took about a third of the large cleanout bag I sent in, but I knew that was going to happen based on their very high standards. I chose not to get any of the clothes back because I had planned on just donating them anyway, so this was a great way to earn a little bit of ThredUp money and really easily clean out my closet. In regards to buying stuff from ThredUp, I have had nothing but good experiences. Everything I've received has been at a great price and really high quality and I've received a ton of compliments on them (no one could ever tell they were second hand). I have received several things that haven't fit (always a risk when not trying things on first) and the return process is incredibly easy (and free). The one thing I wish was that they did have a bit more information about each piece of clothing online, but overall there's a lot of options and I can always find something I'm interested in.

Used to be a huge fan of thred up when I first discovered them a few years ago. Since then their prices have increased dramatically. I definitely don't send clothes in anymore because you get pennies, literally. I feel much better just giving them away. So, I did decide to give them another try regarding buying. Found a few things and now noticed there is a return fee. One of the tops I got had a paint stain on the elbow, advertised in excellent condition and like new. I tried contacting customer service and still have not heard anything, this was a week ago. I give up, I will keep it with the stain and move on to another site. Someone definitely is making a ton of money...

If you are looking to clean out your closets, Thred Up is great. They send you a bag, you send it in, no charge either way. You can get rid of tons of clothing quickly and easily, that is the positive side! However, in my experience, I only send name brand clothing in great condition (because I know they will not accept anything less than perfect), and I have still been disappointed with their selection of clothes to keep and sell, and the resulting payout. The first bag I ever sent seemed fair as far as payout, but the next two were really disappointing. They have reduced their payout, but the prices they sell their clothing for does not seem to have gone down. Thred Up is a great concept, just prepare to be disappointed by your payout. Highly recommend spending the extra money for a return bag so you can sell your unwanted items elsewhere.

Suggestions
October 28, 2015

My only suggestion would be to put the colors with the clothing description. Also put short with the pant sizes made for shorter people.

I have sent in several bags of clothing. The first bag they only accepted maybe 2 items from so the next time I tried I sent in all name brand excellent condition items many of which still had tags on them and they were not accepted. I'm sure they are making money off of this too since I chose not to pay $13.00 to have my unwanted items returned. With the second try I even checked the website for each item I sent in and they were indicated as accepted. The payout for the items they did accept was not that great considering they didn't pay for most of what I sent in... I could have made more had I had a yard sale. Oh and it takes FOREVER for them to process your bag... literally at least a month. And then when they determine your payout if you don't want to buy stuff from them you have to wait an additional 2 weeks to get the money sent to you via paypal. Then buying stuff. Some of it has been ok quality, probably not as good as the items I've sent to them that have been rejected. But I ordered a pair of what were supposed to be black wedges and these shoes are any color but black. At times the look brown and other times olive green depending on how the light hits them but they have never, not once, looked black.
