thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Fun site to shop at!
October 28, 2015

I love the shopping experience on ThedUP because I can find exactly what I want to complete an outfit from my closet. The return policy is awesome I always go with credit because I know I will find something plus more.

Love it!
October 28, 2015

I love being able to buy newer name brand items at a hugely discounted price. The only time I came across somewhat of an issue was when they forgot the belt to a dress, but after reaching out to them, they credited my card right away. And of course it's always difficult to be able to identify if the item is going to fit, as with most online items/brands that I haven't tried before, but whenever I have had that issue with ThredUp I was able to return it for free and return that credit on my account in a reasonable amount of time. I am satisfied with ThredUp and continually use their website to shop for my wardrobe needs!

Thred up is ok
October 28, 2015

I have been sending my bags loaded to Thred Up I am quite surprised at the items they dont take that are, all Name Brand expensive items, the amount of my bags are approximately $35.00 after the 12.99 is deducted. I was quite upset with one of my bags that I sent very good childrens designed clothes and only received $6.00? And told them to keep the rest. I think we should be able to review what they are paying for their items, before we send them... very very disapointing to see what was paid for the item and only receiving about a $1.00 or less

Great for buying
October 28, 2015

I haven't had any experience with selling yet, but I've bought quite a bit and love it. Returns are free with store credit. I like the convenience as I don't have the time to shop and don't live near consignment stores. Clothes are in great condition.

Easy for me
October 28, 2015

I am a working mother, with two children. This is so super easy to send items in. Items I do not have time to mess with on Ebay or any other resale sight. Whatever credit I do receive my daughter uses. I would be giving these items away so any money I make it a bonus. I usually donate what they do not accept. It is just so easy for me.

Finding ThredUp...
October 28, 2015

Ever since I found ThredUp I have been a frequent customer and overall have been pleased with the experience. I am still not quiet clear on the selling of my clothes and why do they give you an upfront pay-out and then alert you to an item that sold... what is the reason for the alert? The main thing I do not like and that has made me think twice about making future purchases is the cost they charge for mailing an item back to them if it doesn't fit, etc...

Love this company!
October 28, 2015

I've purchased from ThredUp for almost 2 years and have been very pleased with my items. I've had to return a few things because of sizing, but I've had the same experience in retail stores. Returns were easy. My retail purchases are few now that I've discovered ThredUp!

I have been pleased with the amount that I get for my clothes, and with the items I have purchased. I also love shopping second hand. I love it being wasteful!

I love the idea of second hand treasures, but I don't have the time to comb the racks of consignment stores every week hoping for something I want. ThredUp has the best search interface of the second-hand e-stores I've seen, and it allows me to easily find items I'm looking for, without a lot of work every time I check.

I've scored some amazing finds too, a Rag & Bone leather jacket that is Perfect was my latest find. It was 80% off retail, and is just the right amount of broken in. I've completely replaced my jean collection with J Brand, Paige and AG denim, for a fraction of the price. All in all, if you know how to shop online, you can really win big on ThredUp.

I've also some sold several bags back to ThredUp. My expectations have always been fairly low, I mean have you ever sold to consignment shops before? They don't pay big, ever. At least with ThredUp the process is easy, and free. I'm pretty careful about what I both sending now, make sure it's in season and practically new. And don't expect to get a lot for each item unless it was super pricey to begin with.

So yeah, I love this site. I do practically all my shopping here, even for my 2 year old daughter. I've found the cutest dresses, whereas my local consignment shop never seems to have cute dresses. Great customer service and return policy. I keep coming back, I barely even shop new anymore because I know if I'm patient I can find what I need here.

Not worth it
October 27, 2015

On the selling side-- definitely felt ripped off by ThredUp.
On the buying side-- being unable to tell how something fits ahead of time while STILL being charged almost $10 to return it makes me not want to buy anything.

Total Rip Off
October 27, 2015

I have been sending in clothes to this site for years and honestly I don't know why I continue to do it. I think my last bag was the last. My last bag had both women's and children's clothes from the Gap, Baby Gap, Calvin Klein, Nike, Adidas etc. I got $8.00 and change for them all! And the kicker is when you log onto the site to see that they are charging $10.00 - $20.00 for one of your items! You would be better off taking your items to a local consignment store. Beware!

I've sent two bags of designer clothing in excellent condition. They took very few items &
Paid barely anything. My biggest mistake was not asking for my items back the first time (I learned my lesson for the second bag)- where did they go? Somewhere for ThredUp to put money in their pockets some other way on my dollar?
I've made more profit from my local Consignment shop and I get my items returned to me FREE! That's where I'll be sending my things in the future.

I love this site, it makes it easy to buy quality low priced clothing while relaxing at home. The filters help to see just what's available in your size. I haven't sold them anything but I have bought MANY items and had 3 or 4 returns with no problems at all.

Love ThredUp! I have purchased probably 50 items from them in the past year for both me and my toddler. They are very picky about what they accept, and accurately describe any flaws that are present on their site. Most often, what they call a "flaw" I can't even find when I receive it! I highly recommend purchasing from them. They also have very responsive customer service if there is an issue, and have even answered questions for me regarding items I was thinking about sending them!

I love thred up for getting quality clothes at great prices. Being able to search by brand and size helps narrow down the huge inventory. Never sold clothes on the site but for buying it is great.

Good site for buyers
October 28, 2015

I have been very impressed with the items I have purchased from ThredUp. The items have been in excellent condition and prices are fair. Before one sends in their own items for resale please take time to review similar items which have sold and the prices resale customers have received for those items. Personally I do not plan to send in any of my items but appreciate thredUP's attempt in being forthcoming about the potential return.

I've used other "second hand" clothing sites, but thredUP is my favorite. The clothes, even those slightly used without tags, are in great condition, and they are described accurately. Love the prices, too. Also, I have sold through them and what they pay is reasonable, considering it keeps the selling prices down, so I can buy more!

They have amazing merchandise but I found the shopping experience overwhelming and frustrating on line. Took me hours to comb through stuff. They need a way better interface with filters. For example every time I went through laborious process of filtering items if I clicked on one to shop there was no easy way to go back.

Works great for me!
October 28, 2015

I find ThredUp to be easy and convenient. It's great solution to where to send clothing after a closet purge. Over the last year I've used the payouts to purchase maternity clothes and then baby clothes from the site. I find the quality standards to be high and am always excited to see the box deliver. I only wish they carried and designated clothes for nursing under the maternity section.
