thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I've been sending bags of good, gently used clothing to thredUp for a while now & have been very happy with the result ($$ in the bank). I just ordered a cute denim skirt. And it fits! This company is GREAT and I have 2 more bags to mail right now. It's great to clean out the closet & get rewarded for it!

Thredup
October 28, 2015

I sent a bag of new with tags and some clothes that were almost new, and I got nothing. The only thing good is they let you return items, but you get credit in their store only. I like alot of their clothes, but it's hard to find in your size. They should accept more of the items people send in.

Get paid for donations
October 28, 2015

When I give clothes to ThredUp, I just view it as an easy way to purge my closet. Instead of throwing it all in a bag and hauling it to goodwill, I set it out for the mailman! They may or may not pay me for these items. When they do pay me, I use that money towards my ThredUp purchases. All the clothes I've bought have been in excellent condition! If I'm not so crazy about them after they arrive, I send them back. Easy peasy! Don't plan on making hundreds of dollars. Just view the money from the clothes you give them as an extra perk!

I have sent 2 bags to Thredup, and yes they did not give me a whole lot of money, but what was to be expected anyway? I was going to donate them and I got some$$ to shop with, so I am happy with that. I ordered a few items and I have to say I am THRILLED! I got 2 awesome shirts and they were like brand new. I did order some boots and they were way too small, and I had excellent customer service in returning them! NO issues. Got my credit and I just placed and order and got a 10% discount! Just from a regular e-mail, not just for me!
I love ThredUp! Trust them.

The first two bags I sent in had good payouts, but since then, I have sent in several more bags where I am lucky to break $20 for designer pieces, new with tag items, and brand name purses hardly used. There is never any information provided on why the items are not accepted and supposedly they are sent to charity. I am starting to wonder if that is the case, especially when I see "unaccepted" brands on their site, selling for fairly high prices. Something just doesn't add up... seems fishy to me.

Love this site!
October 28, 2015

I've never been disappointed with the quality of the items, even if they are secondhand. Many of the ones I buy still have tags or haven't even been worn much. And prices are fabulous!

I will say, I wish they gave a bit more for clothes I've traded in, but all in all, this is a fabulous site for shopping! Great deals, low prices, and its very easy to find the categories and items I'm looking for.

Selling is so easy. Convenient bag sent to you. A little research of what clothes are accepted is necessary, but easy enough on website. I am happy with the amounts I have been receiving since these clothes would probably have been given away anyway. My teenage daughter loves shopping with the dollars I have made.

Not worth sending in at their payout percentages unless something is priced over $50 otherwise you get about 50 cents an item. I have tons of outgrown nice kids clothes but would rather donate or give to a friend. I was pleased with purchases but some items were not sized correctly and I still had to get a credit rather than refund even though it was not listed properly. I would only shop again if I got another 40% off. Good values for designer brands, especially children's clothes.

They give you rock bottom payment for what you send. Even though it is new or like new (unworn). The small amount they pay you can only be used to buy more stuff from them. The prices to buy the clothes is not much of a bargain.

However, something good is the items I items you receive. They all have Thred Up tags attached and were very nice choices for me. The packaging is very well done and creates a good impression.

But do not recommend because of the super low amts they pay you for quality clothes. And the email you get from the owner DOES go unanswered even though he asks for your feedback.

Come on Thred Up, nice idea but don't be so stingy/greedy!

They say they care...
October 27, 2015

I submitted my first bag of used clothes (many of which were brand new with tags) and only got $12 in credits. I received an email from the CEO asking me how my first experience was and he also claimed he answers every email. I still haven't heard from him and basically have $12 to spend on the site now which won't really get me much of anything. At least not anything comparable for all the good stuff I gave up. I'll just stick with Goodwill next time.

I love thred up
October 28, 2015

I have been purchasing from thredup for at least a year and a half and I love it. I never have a problem spending $75+ to qualify for free shipping, which is great because then I can use that extra money for a new blouse. I have always been satisfied with the customer service and quality of the items. I have had to do a couple returns because of an item not fitting and it's super easy and even better, free! I have also done a couple thredup bags and sent items in for consignment, unfortunately they didn't take a ton of items and the prices that they credit your account are pretty low but I don't have an issue with that because they sell the items for such a good price. All in all... I'm a happy thredup customer.

First Timer
October 28, 2015

I only used it once, but my buying experience was easy and worth it. I wanted something that was inexpensive and versatile for my daughter. Also, I wanted to get more options than the few in my area's resale shops. She goes through clothes so fast that buying new all the time is a money waste. The items I looked at were in the exact condition that I was told to expect and worth the cost. I cannot comment on the selling aspect as I never sell, I donate to the Women's Shelter. However, my buying experience is worth telling friends about.

I have made several purchases from ThredUP, as well as sent in several bags of clothing for re-sale. Every purchase I have made has been flawless - product condition is described accurately and everything was clean and beautifully packaged. "Clean-out" bags are sent out promptly, and I feel that I have been given a fair price for everything I have sent in. I recommend ThredUP to everyone I know and am a happy customer!

I was super impressed with ThredUp. I was a little skeptical of buying used clothing online, sense you cannot see it in person and see the quality for yourself. But after my first purchase I was very pleased! Even things that were marked as a tiny flaw were in amazing condition, I couldn't even notice the flaw that was mentioned. One thing that I was worried about was sizing but if you don't know your size at a store or brand already just check the size charts of the brand on their websites it is super helpful! And the 14 day return policy is plenty of time to get the package and decide that something doesn't fit.

I have been using Thread Up faithfully for over 2 years. I love being able to shop from home and Thread Up makes it easy, enjoyable, and affordable. Initially, I just purchased for myself but now I purchase for me and my kids. I especially love it for the kids' clothing as they grow so fast... I don't have to spend a fortune but still keeping them stylish and trendy! I've also sent in my own bag of clothes and was pleased with the outcome of the experience. I'd love to see a Men's section sometime!

Awful for Selling
October 27, 2015

I have sent bags full brand name, unworn clothing and received as little as $3.00 a bag. I know they need to make money, but it's ridiculous. Their "specialists" say that brand new items are faded or pilling. At this point, I think they do it so they can justify the low payouts. Also, it takes a month or more for them to process a bag and your upfront payments are NOT upfront. You have to wait 3 or more weeks to receive the cash.

While I love the idea of an easy and simple online consignment store, I am feeling more and more ripped off when I send items in.

At first I was put off by the long online search process and uncertainty about quality and fit. But the first purchase 40% off encouraged me to take the plunge, and I am very happy with the service and my purchases. The quality, condition, and fit were great, and the classy packaging was an extra special touch.

I have purchased many great things from ThredUp. Except for purses, the prices on clothing are very good and I have had good success purchasing items. However, the payout for bags I have sent in recently has been TERRIBLE. I would not send anything in again.
