thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Thredup pays next to nothing on quality name brands. I sent in 40 pieces, all in MINT condition. ALL high quality brand names, some with tags still attached. They took about 1/2 the bag 22 pieces. My final payout was $10.99 & they CHARGED ANOTHER % FOR PAYPAL TRANSFER. Meanwhile they send me updates on the clothes as they sell... $14, $24, $18, etc. I know they need to make money but 50 cents per piece is ridiculous. NEVER again. I would make more money donating to a charitable cause & taking the tax deduction/write-off. DON'T DO IT!

Don't trust Thredup!
August 11, 2016

I finally received notification in the mail that my bag (to sell) was processed. The bag included brand new high-end items (e.g. Dsquared) and a couple of used regular brand items (e.g. Club monaco) But guess what? Instead of being fair and process all the items --the high-end items magically disappeared from the list. Despite the fact that these brands are listed on the website as acceptable -- they were not accepted. I'm guessing they are now being sold somewhere else at full price. Thredup never again!

I have sold probably three different groupings of clothing and accessories. I have had great selling results with handbags that were in like new condition. Sure, sometimes my expectations on sales price have been a tad inflated so I might not receive the amount I expected, but I also don't have the headache of selling them myself.
On the buying side, I have been very pleased with the items I have purchased. All the items I have purchased have been in exceptional condition with really no signs of wear at all. The website is easy to use so shopping is a breeze. My only caveat to this is that photos, particularly of black or white clothing, can be difficult to distinguish.
The only negative experience I had was during a glitch in trying to order a clean-out bag on-line. I called customer service to tell them about the difficulty I was experiencing which the representative seemed to be aware of, however, rather than handling the situation for me, she gave me technical instructions on how to keep trying to work around the problem. I wrote this off to lack of experience in handling customer issues. Eventually, customer service did get the clean-out bag sent out to me. All's well that ends well I guess.

Review of Selling
August 9, 2016

The downside: This is my first time selling to them. Processing took over a month. I sent about $250 retail worth of clothing, all premium brands and in good shape. I expected about $25 (10%) of the original price based on what they would sell them for but got only $16.09. I get that the business model is to buy really low because they can't be sure of selling etc but really? With those buy prices I think that the model will fall apart because who is going to send anything good? I sent a pair of leather almost new Steve Madden Boots and several shirts from Boden, Garnet Hill, and Caslon (Nordstrom)- they bought everything. Had I not been lazy I could have taken them to the local consignment shop and in the same amount of time made about $30-40. So why didn't I? I like buying from Thred Up and thought that with the $ earned I could pick up a shirt or two. They are quick shippers and I have been happy with all the merchandise I've bought. Our local consignments don't carry as much of the premium brands. All in all, you could do just as well locally if not better so I would suggest buying from them not selling to them.

I'll start off by saying that I've never had anything but positive experiences with selling to thredUp. I know I won't get rich with my payout, but at least I don't have to worry about the hassle of selling my clothes on my own. However, I'm not too pleased with the new surcharge they've added which they claim is to help with the cost of repurposing your unaccepted clothing. Why are they all of a sudden asking for this extra money. How were they funding the "repurposing" before? Now, for the buying aspect... For thredUp to claim they have such high quality standards, I definitely can't tell it from the clothes I've bought from them. I've had at least 4 or 5 items that have had some sort of damage - stains, holes, tears,,, Also, their prices are outrageous. The customer service is sooo slow, too. They tell you that if you have a question about an item, to put it in your cart to make sure no one else buys it while you're waiting from a response from CS. What they don't tell you is that there is a 24 hr time limit on leaving clothes in your cart, and it takes CS 3 or 4 days to reply back to you, so it's really pointless to even ask them anything in the first place. With all of that being said, I can only give thredUp 3 out of 5 stars. They're ok, but they have a lot of improving to do.

I sent in a bag full of never worn clothes, shoes, and a Dooney and Bourke bag. I expected at least $40 or $50 for my clothes. I recieved after a month goes by $9.20. I could have sold my own clothes and made more than $9. I trusted thred up would at least pay a little bit more. I will never sell any more clothes through anyone. They are better off in my closet. I saw one dress that I have never worn for $14.99! This is ridiculous, never trust anyone with your clothes. To whoever is reading these reviews and questioning whether to sell your clothes through a company, You are the only person who knows what your clothes are worth sell them your self at a garage sell you will mke so much more money!

Somewhat Satisfied
August 8, 2016

They gave very little money for the clothes they purchased and when I saw the ones they were selling and the price they sold them for it was drastically more than what I was given-customer service experience was good-cool concept just wish their payout was a little more so everyone benefits.

Hello,

I am so confused.
Through thredup, it looks like 5 items of mine sold (several were returned to me via paying my $9.99). However, it says my balance is 0.00? What? I thought this was consignment. Don't I receive a percentage (40 or 50 percent of what I sold?). I was then researching and if nothing you value is $60 or over, then I receive nothing? I am so frustrated and confused by your 'services' to us trying to earn a little change. So bummed. Really could have used the money of my good quality items.

I love ThredUp. I've purchased from their site several times, and although I've had to return a couple of things that I ended up not loving, I have never had a bad experience with ThredUp. The website and app are both easy to use and customize for your personal sizes. It's fun too because there is always something new to browse. Plus buying consignment is an easy way to help the environment. I love ThredUp!

This is my second time shopping with thredUP and you guys DID NOT disappoint! I rarely purchase clothing items online, particularly used clothing items, because I am afraid of the quality or size/fit of the product but you guys are always accurate in your descriptions and of the product which puts me at ease. For my 2nd order I purchased three dresses for my daughters and they absolutely loved them. I couldn't beat these prices if I found these items at an actual second hand store. You now have a customer for life!
