I have had a fair experience with Thread Up. I was willing to accept their very low prices on my high quality clothing for the convenience factor of mailing in the bag and then using my credit to order new items. I recently placed an order for $51 of clothing, which came to me free based on my account credit. I need to return three items, and my entire account history has DISAPPEARED. There is no record of my order history, and of course no record of the $30 in credit left on my account. I have thus far sent three messages to customer service, but NOTHING back.
Buyer beware--you may not be able to return merchandise and your account could get "wiped" with no resolution.
I sold to thredup fully expecting to have them reject most of my clothing. That wasn't the problem. The problem was the payout for the clothing accepted. >$1 per item. They are also scamming the future buyers. The item I expected to receive a low payout they are reselling for $18, saying it was originally $48. I paid $10 for it new. As buyer or seller, you're going to get ripped off.
I will begin by saying, yes, I have gotten some amazing deals on some clothes that I love. However, the returns (and all customer service related to returns) are TERRIBLE! I return quite a bit of what I buy, and quite often they screw up the return. If it's a big, combined return, they miss at least one or two things. Usually something pricy. So far they have always ended up refunding me (at least for the things I have caught!), but it always takes at least ten to fourteen days of arguing with them. And it happens so frequently they are either profoundly incompetent or doing it on purpose. Yes, it's my own fault that I keep buying from them.
Here's the most recent example: I bought 3 items and returned two (together in the same package). The returned items cost $24.99 and $75.99. The item I kept cost $27.99. I initially created a return for all three (individually), but only printed and returned the slips for the items I actually returned. When I received the email notifications that the returns were processed, they had processed the two cheaper items. The dress I had not returned was a very, very unusual brand and the picture they posted had the same wrinkles as the original, so I was certain it was the same one. These dresses look NOTHING alike, but they were not paying attention or something. Either way, it is a $48 difference for me. It has been 72 hours since I notified them of the error and no word. We'll see what happens.
I also agree with the reviewers who say you don't get much for what you sell. But that was what I expected. I was just cleaning out my closet. Since it was always free to send in the past, I just figured, hey, why not, it's no more trouble than Goodwill and I might end up with some cash (to date nearly $400, but that's over a year and I had sent in some really high end stuff). Now it looks like they are going to start charging $6.99 for shipping, so I'll probably quit and send my nicer stuff somewhere else.
When I look at the inventory for sale on thred up and compare it to what they selected from my bag, I'm confused and angry. The $13.90 credit is a mere pittance. Done with three up.
Will never EVER recommend using this site. I sent clothes that "disappeared." Over 20 items with (18 with tags), totalling $1800, they gave me $200 credit. So disappointing. I wanted this to work but no!
I've made well over $500 selling through Thredup and generally have had a good experience. I do send a high volume of higher end clothing. They have noticeably slowed down in their processing and communication time, they need to improve that. Still better than other resellers or donation. The childrens items I have purchased have been good - good condition and sized properly.
My first order. A pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes. The shoes Are Not lightly worn. There is a tear in the heel and white plastic is showing through. Disappointing!
I sent two bags of mint condition name brand clothing, some never worn. Received $1.24 for the first bag and around $1.80 for the second bag. Not worth the hassle of taking it to be mailed. Received notice of 3 items sold so far. Never again. You may make out well buying but selling is better if you have a garage sale and sell items there. At least you might get $1 to $4 an item.
This company takes brand name clothes, mine were new and in brand new condition. What they do is pay out $24 and then tell you the rest of the clothing were "unsellable". Of course they make out triple. They have stupid people that fall for their trap. They keep the expensive items and sell it somewhere else. DONT BUY FROM THEM EVER! Just get a tax deduction from salvation army, goodwill or pirple heart. Purple Heart will pick up your bag of clothes.
My first thought was disappointment. I thought they were "ripping me off". I contacted them and they answered thoroughly with pics to prove their point. I was amazed. The $24.16 isn't all they give you... that's your up-front payout. Don't get discouraged. They're honest business people and I think this will be great in the long run. I plan to do business with them again. You get paid after your stuff sells in addition to the upfront payout. Make sure you read everything!
I sent in a bag of clothes and shoes in late June. After never hearing from them I sent an e-mail to support, in August, about my bag. I was told it was still being processed. After it was finally processed, I received an upfront payment of $24.15. They are selling my items for $187, but gave me $24.15. Believing that this was a ridiculous payment considering many of my items were new, with tags, and 4 new items from BCBG Max Azria were missing, I sent another e-mail to support. They responded with a generic response about payments, that never really addressed my question. And when asked, again, about my missing items, they suddenly said, "oh those were unsellable." I wish I'd done more research on them before sending my clothes, as it appears they have a history of stealing items and then when asked about it claiming those items were unsellable. Their support team is no help and rather really attempting to help you, they keep responding with generic worded responses. Worse company ever!
Selling to them is a rip off. Wrote to them that they are missing my Jimmy Choo's and never heard back... gave me $39 for bag full of chico clothes, fendi purse and missing jimmy choo's... and you can't get anyone to talk to you... DON'T DO IT!
Sent a full bag of clothes from brands they accept (Jcrew, Banana Republic, JoeFresh) including an almost brand-new pair of jeans. I wasn't expecting much of a payout- but 60 cents is absolutely ridiculous! It took them 2 months to "process" my bag and they apparently could only sell one shirt.
Donating to goodwill or the ARC is a better option in my opinion. I won't make this mistake again.
I've purchased a few pieces from Thredup that were very well priced. I guess someone needs to get screwed to allow for this business model to be sustainable.
EXACTLY - HORRIBLE - STAY AWAY. They stole my items and sold them on their site without crediting me. I sent an email to their "support" and no one ever responded. Selling is a HORRIBLE experience which I would not recommend to someone I dislike. Second, buying was ok but on two occasions, I have received items which are damaged. One dress with a hole and the other with missing buttons. No one has responded to my customer service inquiry as well. The WORST customer service ever!
I am very aware of the fit/brands of clothing I choose for my teenage daughter and I. To say the least, I am not impressed. Fit and quality of 60% of the clothes I have received are not good. My first order was better than my second order. You are an online business, used or not, you should be allowing 30 day return due to shipping. I work for an Online business myself, it's just good business practices. Customer obsession is key.
If you're just trying to get rid of clothing and donate to charity definitely take this to a goodwill or salvation army. This is not the site to use to "donate to a good cause". They take your clothes, give you practically nothing for it, then sell it for WAY higher than what they gave you.
If you're looking to make money off your clothing this is also not the place to take it to. You will spend more on gas taking it to the post office. Use Poshmark where you can set your own prices and have total control.
I have only dreamed of having an online second hand (and some first!) store to shop at. I am faithful to thred up and have been for over two years now! Love love love
Selections are fabulous. Wish shipping was a little bit faster and the turn around time when you send in your own clothes for credit or cash. But def not reasons to skip the thredup.com experience!
The items were very nice and worth what I paid. I will have to pay more attention to the sizing. Even though they were marked L, if I had given more consideration to the measurements I would not have purchased a couple items. However, they were nice enough and I was able to pass the bargain along.

Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.

Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.

Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
