I have found a couple of gems on here, I won't lie. But I have had a several items that were in much rougher shape than disclosed, and now it seems to be the majority of items as of recent.
Photos usually don't show closeups of flaws, and that is deceptive. Return policy is not great, or even especially clear. Shipping is a definitely high and expect to pay duties if buying from Canada.
I sent my Prada Boots to them which I bought for $450. Brand new. Only wore once. They offered the price $65 but I can only get 20% of this quote price. I wasn't happy with the quote price and asked them to mail it back to me. BUT they already posted the item to their website and already sold it out WITHOUT my permission. This is ridiculous. I didn't approve them to do that. That is still my item. HOW can they sell it without notifying me? Don't sell your stuff to The RealReal. Once you give them your stuff, that is their stuff and you cannot give any $#*! about it.
Real real is a scam I purchase a pair of chrome hearts leggings they did not fit me I sent them back and they told me they cannot authenticate these hands meanwhile I bought them from them I send out a pair YSL flats they said they couldn't Authentisign so they got rid of them they didn't send them back horrible people
I was so excited to visit the Dallas Store. I was out with some pristine pieces floating to different consignment stores. I had 6 pieces that were researched upon entering store at a very small desk. My items were freshly dry cleaned and still in plastic. The gentleman looked up all items. He stated that 4 of the items they would qualify for appraisal and get back with me. Explained the process to me of which was very vague. I was contacted by an individual via email that would be my advocate on the process or if I had any questions.
After about 2.5 weeks I was able to see information on app still wondering why information stated unacceptable and a tracking number provided to track the items :O I was not told they were going to mail these items to me. I specifically stated I would pick them up if they were denied. Had no idea they were going to be unaccepted and returned this way. As the items are now wrinkled and cannot take photos for an auction until they are re-dry cleaning and freshly starched (linen) I just wished I had been informed of how this process worked on the backend. WHY take the items to begin with is my question? And SEND THEM BACK IN SAME CONDITION YOU RECIEVED THEM IN! HELLO YELP
STEPHANIE SOFEY
P.S. no pictures because you have already wasted enough of my time. However, if you woud like some I can surely send them to you direct! Maybe I can get a reimbursement of the dry cleaning
They lost my item that I was consigning with them and have been giving me the runaround and have not reimbursed me for it. It was an expensive piece of jewelry. Stay away from this company, very unprofessional and terrible service.
I have sold a few items with this "investor" based company and I had difficulty ever receiving my consignment checks. The first check finally arrived after many months. The only reason the check arrived is because I called their billing dept. so many times, I've lost track. The second check has never arrived and it has been close to a year now. I have also contacted them so many times for this check. Just beware when you consign with this company. I am sure I'm not the only one having this problem.
Here is my latest experience with this company: I purchased 2 pairs of shoes, on the 24th of September 2022, credit card was charged immediately, including shipping fee (company lists 3-5 business days arrival time after the order is placed). After 5 business days and no package received i contacted the company (via Chat), and talked to Anna (or Anne). Tracking number showed the package was not even picked up by UPS. Anna said I should allow one extra day and the package will arrive. Although I questioned, how is it possible to receive the order in one day when the package was not even picked up, i was assured ( in a very condescending way) the package will arrive. This made me very happy since one pair of shoes was for a special event that particular day. I made sure someone was home the entire day but of course no package arrived. Tried to call the company but was not able to reach a live person. Next business day tried calling again. First phone call: was on hold for 30 min while the customer service representative was verifying tracking info, etc. I believe he hang up on me, since e didn't follow up with a phone call in case we were disconnected. Called again, this time only 15 min on hold, the only information they provide is exactly what's available online when you sign in to your account. I was assured I will hear back from them within 30 min, however 2 hours later no word.
First to call you to get your consignment. Last to help after it leaves your home. Consign locally! The real real is unreal … stay away
A very nice experience, first time w the shop. Easy online browsing and ordering. Step by step notifications of the shipment. Well packaged.
I shop frequently on The RealReal, because I trust(ED) that if I want something authentic, the RealReal will live up to its name. I was searching for a black leather jacket, because I was tired of getting fake leather coating that peels off the sleeves if you're carrying a purse. I knew I needed to spend money for an authentic leather jacket and figured that, unlike other online consignment, if their listed jacket is called "leather," it will be leather. Not pleather, not leathery-esque coating or some other such cheap, low-quality nonsense. The jacket I chose said "leather" in description for material, and it was a Michael Kors. I had no reason to think it would be anything less than quality. Nope. One wear, and the fake leathery coating was peeling off the sleeves. Now, I will never trust another item marked as "leather" on RealReal site again! I would expect this from ThredUp, but now, I guess I'll have to distrust material listed unless I see a tag, and as RealReal never posts photos of clothing tags, I won't be trusting the description. What a disappointment!
I gave The Real Real several items of mine to sell and basically they made all the money off of a 80.00 sale.
The product wasn't theirs to begin with
Why did they make 60.00 and I made only 20.00. Highway robbery
They sold me a fake Loewe bag for a few thousand $. Item arrived with a tag from an outlet, where apparently somebody was charged $400 for the same bag! I quickly done some authenticity verifications and bingo, its fake! It doesnt take a specialist to look at a bag and confirm that its fake. I called RealReal and they just gave me their usual 2 sentences how they take authenticity very seriously. At this point, if you can't very authenticity before charging someone few thousand $ for an item that original price was $400, you shouldn't be in this business at all!
After purchasing and consigning for three years successfully with the RealReal, I have lately been hugely disappointed in their lack of transparency and customer support. I purchased four items that had a returnable status. When returning two of the four items, suddenly the company said I could not get a return and the items could only be re-consigned. So, this means you get a fraction of a refund. It was a bait and switch that could not get resolved after hours trying to communicate to customer service, which is now really limited to phone texting. The customer service reps in my case were absolutely determined to not resolve the problem. The company also re-sent me a dress I had returned and would not send me a label to resend it back. Overall an exhausting experience. I can no longer recommend The RealReal that I was very supportive of for three years. Be careful. Transparency and customer support were not present in my last purchase.
I was asked to review descriptions of items I consigned with TRR gave constructive advice instead they assumed it was just about money. I felt that descriptions of clothing and the prices quoted of the original prices came from some sort of data base. There is almost never a season or year put in the description. So I was actually somewhat confused about pricing just because it seemed more like a bunch of people with no knowledge of the items or words used to describe articles of clothing that you would find even in a catalog. Combat boots that were weathered were replaced by to described as "tie dyed". Sweater set which was pout on to sell separately would have been fine if they had at least put at the bottom shell that l. The sweater was like a duster but a bit shorter they sold it as a V-neck without any descriptions of the embellishments or anything. These were my issues I had. The pricing seemed quite arbitrary and strange as I examined it more but I am not in the business of selling pre-owned designer clothes. I never really cared about the pricing until I saw some items priced a bit higher than I thought they were worth and some way lower than they were worth. Again the descriptions were just so strange like a paid of R13 leather pants which have a denim part at the top described as leggings with the original price listed as $250. No idea of approximate years or seasons it could be. All these items have style numbers. There is no mention of the pants being leather. Brand new shoes never worn written as slightly worn throughout. Discounting items when they are returned because they have improper sizing. An Italian large is not a large by US sizing. I take extremely good care of my clothes and when I give them to the consignment person they are always clean but TRR does not clean items at all. Handbags and shoes are really their main business but if you want to sell a higher priced handbag most like if it is not a Birken or something like that it will sit. But basically my whole issue was not really about the pricing but the descriptions made me feel like I was a fool. I love clothes and my entire life and career have been about fashion. I just felt that after pointing out that the descriptions of items in many cases were incorrect. There was an attack that this was just about money which honestly that was really secondary look let's be real people are buying your used items that you bought at a certain price and that valuation most or may not be correct in the market place. But I felt that the whole spirit of the company and the idea of authentication was about creating a forum for people to buy and sell these items because they love them. But in the end I feel like I consigned with a bargain basement retailer. I completely regret it because I feel like they didn't even pretend to understand the issue.
No. I handed over a LV graphite toiletry bag along with a limited edition Gucci bag. They immediately put the Gucci bag on sale. Then cut me 55% commission. Yes, the commission is detailed beforehand. I asked for my bags back when I saw they cut the price in half, no response. But continued to receive emails about future sales. I worked my $#*! off for these bags. They mean the world to me. Don't ever contact me again.
I contacted them before i attempted to make my purchase. The "person" i was chatting to just simply decided to no longer answer my ONE question. It was just "give me a minute" they never got back to me
Thank god i didnt just buy the item. Clearly they are very dodgy!
This company is scam and they like to steal money from yous. I've paid 2 times shipping which I shouldn't have to pay. I live in UK and in total I've paid 82£! This place call "business" company is a joke and their are so far the worst experience I ever had as customer. I will spread my word to all people in UK about this issue as this is not acceptable.
I sent very valuable jewelry to TRR on August 3 with the promise that they would post the items for sale within 3 weeks. It has now been 7 weeks and NOTHING. I have been communicating with Ben, Cheyenne, and Christine at TRR and each week they promise me the jewelry will be posted within a week and nothing has happened. Each week I ask to have the situation escalated to a supervisor and they promise they will, but they don't. I sense I am being scammed, do not sell your items here. I can't get my items posted nor can I get them returned though I have asked multiple times. Be careful.
I LOST money consigning with them. They used bait & switch tactics about how much I'd make. After everything was said and done I made a whole $8 for two pairs of pristine Ferragamo pumps. My time, effort, & gas would have been better spent selling my high-value items on a do-it-yourself site like Etsy.
Just had my Moussy Vintage never worn jeans returned to me as unable to consign, due to interior staining. The interior stains were the manufactures imprinting of the style and size! Are real people listing these items?!?
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
