Horrible experience trying to consign with these people. I demanded my items returned after learning they lied about commission structure. FINALLY got my items back, half were ruined. I WOULD NEVER BUY FROM THIS PLACE. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST.
I paid $200 for a Marc Jacobs snapshot bag. Its now been two weeks and the bag has not arrived. I have emailed three times and not one person has responded to my email. I'm starting to think the bag is never going to arrive and at this rate I just want a refund. A RealReal scam more like.
Hello Hannah,

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Purchased a Gucci bag. Received bag. The bag is clearly not authentic, it is missing a Gucci logo - confirmed by visiting the actual Gucci store and inspecting the real bag. The RealReal refuses the assist in the matter saying my only recourse is mail the bag back or have someone pick it up for a refund. Public service announcement: It is against federal law to mail counterfeit goods or re-enter a counterfeit goods into circulation. Both actions amount to a violation of federal law in traffic in counterfeit goods. The real real is full of hot air claiming to be Nice claiming to help however they only are implicating their consumers in federal law violations. I now must turn this bag over to the police station garner a police report and file a suit in small claims court for $1500. Second public service announcement don't shop at this website their authentication process is garbage they will obviously always stand behind their product. Regardless whatever reality is. No one's career or job and federal service or the military is worth their reputation. Don't shop I can't emphasize that enough don't shop
I would like to add to this review. The RealReal did reach out and ask if I wanted to re-authenticate the bag via one of their authentic locations I asked if I could by law record this process to protect myself and The RealReal and The RealReal immediately retracted the offer stating I was starting a legal proceeding and implicating The RealReal. I wonder what they think I am implicating by staying within the bounds of DC law and even asking permission to record the authentication process. Notice to the community I am an attorney and a US service member and therefore I must stay within the bounds of the law due to the nature of my job and not violate US code, and participate to the fullest capacity with law-enforcement with any suspected counterfeit issues. The RealReal has already emailed me claiming to refute This claim and this post saying it is not accurate nor ethically representing the situation. I would love to hear what parts they refute. Anyone with questions I offer to reach out I have photos and emails - evidence of everything I have stated. I have reached out to law-enforcement for next steps and will be seeing a Gucci representative for confirmation for the police and following the requisite steps. Realreal want to make this right? Admit you sold a counterfeit bag. Issue a refund, accompany me to the police station. If you promise so hard you will destroy the bag, how about you just watch the actual law enforcement authorities do it within the bounds of the law? Or perhaps discuss with them the authenticity of this bag and it's missing logo and larger than normal handles, and misshapen body, less quality texture and sticky zippers?
With realreal's new policy of not stating the exact measurements of items and their draconian return policy on sale items and $11.95 shipping fee, it seems corporate is not interested in customer satisfaction but in raking in shipping fees and getting customers stuck with items that might not fit. A size M in Prada is a L in Pucci if you are lucky. Most internet shopping sites offer free return for that purpose. Shame on realreal for instituting this policy.
Hi India,
Thank you for your feedback.
Specific measurements are displayed on some items, and with others, we recommend choosing sizing based on the measurements provided on the size chart or referring to our fit tips.
-The size chart suggests a numeric size range that best matches your usual size.
-Our fit tips are a sophisticated blend of size/fit information based on brand, garment type and silhouette.
We hope this was helpful.
I ordered a Louis Vuitton hood sweatshirt from this website. I waited one week for ground delivery. It shows delivered however I have no package. I then contacted the site by e-mail. They never responded on two different days. I called Customer Service a d waited 1:20 mins for customer service who filed a trace and they said I will have to wait for over 8 days to get my money back! Now I don't want to sell my clothing on the website that I don't use.
Wish I discovered them decades ago. I stopped buying from a 2nd hand online shop due to several very bad experiences. I was hesitant to order from this company. The first purchase was a wow! Beautifully packaged and with care. I've been buying from them since. Yes, I returned some items because they don't suit me. No problems. Got my refund with no drama. I've been buying from them ever since. Great and attentive customer service. Did not disappoint. Stands by the products they sell.
Firstly it sounded good but what a nightmare. Girl came to pick up stuff. Really wonderful person but did not follow up on anything which caused a chain reaction of the nightmare. The listing department puts skirts as tops. Incorrect sizes. Discounts 20% without my permission. Puts insane cheap rates with super high commission. More hassle than worth
Hello Ellen,
I am extremely sorry to hear about your experience that you have had with consigning your items, I would love to take a look into this if you are willing to go ahead and send over a message with your email address so that I can go ahead and look up your account to see what happend with this consignment process and where did we go wrong. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Not so real. I ordered a USED Prada bag from the real real thinking that it would be a REAL Prada bag. It is in fact a FAKE. NOT so real. For 500.00 I would expect a real Prada. Now you won't let me return it. Only consign? This indeed a rip off company that tricks people into thinking the items are authentic but sends fakes for real prices. Very disappointed!
Hello Lisa,
Thank you for reaching out.
We are sorry to hear about your concerns regarding your recent purchase.
Authenticity is the cornerstone of The RealReal. We staff in-house professionals including gemologists, horologists, art appraisers and apparel experts that ensure every item sold is 100% authentic and in beautiful condition.
All items are put through a multi-point, brand-specific, authentication process by a team of luxury experts guided by our Director of Authentication & Brand Compliance. During this inspection process, we validate appropriate brand markings, date codes, serial tags and hologram stickers as applicable. Each item passes through our strict authenticity test before it is curated into daily sales.
We will be sending you a private message to further assist.
Bought a Celine bag and the tag inside said Made in China. All bags are made in Italy. It was simple for me to see, not sure how the professional authenticators missed it.
I'm really surprised at all the negative reviews for The Real Real. I have made many purchases and they have all been amazing! I'm actually addicted to my Obsessions page on my app and have had a great experience with their shipping and customer service. Not sure why there are so many people with issues, but I've been super happy!
Hello,

Best Regards,
I shipped two boxes of goods to NYC Soho location. One of the boxes has been reviewed and consigned, the other box is"lost"? There were over $10K in clothes and shoes in this box. I get some feedback that I wasn't supposed to ship them, they would give me a shipping label. "It was the second time it has happened." No, both boxes were shipped at the same time. I personally delivered a bag to the MADISON location in June and that was an OK transaction. I was asked if I took photos of all the items. No, I didn't as I thought this was a legitimate organization as I had purchased items before online. I will update this review as I get more info. All I can say now, is consignor be ware.

Spent thousands of dollars over several years and was a huge fan of the company. But I'm now fed up with the incorrect listings (three times something has arrived the wrong size it was listed), wait times for customer service to reverse shipping charges is ridiculous. Don't even get me started on paying extra to be a Platinum member. So far only half the shipments have come within the two business days which is promised. It's too bad because it was so great, and now it's just bad.

The one star rating is for my experience as both a buyer as well as a consignor. I've been buying/consigning with them for the past 4 years. Although it started well, I have to agree with the other reviews that the entire experience has gone downhill.
My latest consignment went terribly wrong. I sent them over 30 Stella McCartney items. Some which are current season, still sold in stores, all in excellent condition. They never emailed me updates alerting me when the items were priced, listed, sold. $1400 pants currently in stores were priced at $50. A blazer in excellent condition was priced 5 times lower than the same blazer in "very good condition" that they are selling on their website. I reached out to them as soon as I noticed that my items were listed and asked them to please either change the prices or return my items to me. They never bothered to reply. As expected, the items sold immediately. I reached out to them again, they sent me a template "your patience is very appreciated" email exactly 9 days ago, then they just never followed up. It's absolutely infuriating and humiliating that as a loyal buyer and consignor (who spent tens of thousands on their website) to be treated this way. According to their Consignor Agreement, we still own our items, so if we request our items to be sent to us, TRR should honor our request, or at least have the decency to reply to emails.
I would like to terminate my agreement with them, but not until I'm compensated for the items they sold WITHOUT my consent (after I emailed them REPEATEDLY about it) and also have the rest of the items returned to me. But they do not reply to emails, so I guess I just have to wait until they bother to do so.
Total scam. You pay extra for First Look membership but they give certain merchandise to preferred customers behind the scenes. Also horrible management -in particular * is rude and unhelpful. Wait times to speak to someone exceed 40 minutes and many times the items are in poor condition and very overpriced. And I've received Louboutins that were fake. I alerted them and never got verification if I was correct or not. They take 60% commission from consignors which is over the top. Also customers have to pay $12 for shipping for purchases and another $12 for returns.

At first I brought two items in to consign. One was a Gucci shirt. They authenticated and priced the item at $86 which is insanely low for something I bought for $600. Then I emailed them and they said they would review it. Afterwards the price was lowered to $65! And sold without my knowledge. I'm making $20 off this sale. INSANITY. You would have better luck on Poshmark. I rather give these items to goodwill than help them make money.
Hello Eliza,
Thank you so much for reaching out in regards to your items, I am extremely sorry to hear what happened and I would love to go ahead and look into this if given the opportunity. Please, don't hesitate to send us a message so that we can go ahead and re-evaluate these items.

I had been looking at TRR for a long time, but was always put off by the $11.95 shipping charge. I found a high end cashmere sweater from a brand that I love and it was described as "very good" condition with minor wear. It looked great in the photos they posted. When it arrived it was disgusting! It smelled as though it had never been washed, was heavily pilled, had white "stuff" all over it and had two HUGE 1.5 inch holes in the front that were impossible to overlook! That sweater was not fit for donation to Goodwill. I have seen videos and read posts from people who scour charity shops and garage sales looking for clothes with designer labels and then send them off in bulk (without washing) to TheRealReal for a quick and easy sale. I suspect that this disgusting sweater was one of those "trash bin" finds. It was $102.50 (after 50% off--LOL!) and was final sale. I contacted CS and sent photos of the sweater and threatened a credit card chargeback if they did not refund my money in full. They agreed to refund my money upon return. For that they earn one star; otherwise, I would give them 0 stars for deceptive advertising. They are very careless about evaluating the condition of items hoping for suckers to keep the trash. From now on, I'll stick with eBay. At least on eBay, a seller takes photographs of each defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. With TRR, you are taking a chance with every purchase. I will never shop here again. The prices are high and the quality is low. For those who dare to shop here, they need to offer free shipping to encourage people to take a chance.
Ordered a few designer jeans and a top. Label was cut out in one of the jeans, descriptions and colors were way off... TERRIBLE quality... NO returns...
Customer service impossible to get hold of. I only wonder what happen if someone would spend big dollars for their watches and jewelry.
STAY AWAY...
I buy items at garage sales & a thrift store in a nearby affluent area. I eyeball the items well so I don't waste the realreal's time. They authenticate the items and list them. All my items have sold pretty quickly and I make money. I'm happy. I think the realreal is great. I don't want to sell high end items on my own. I don't want to deal with nightmares. Start with 1 item if you want and see how it goes. I think you'll like them.
Hi. I have been consigning with The Real Real for 3 years now
-I am extremely satisfied consigning with them. I originally spent many years selling on ebay. And the Real Real is by far... a better experience for me... my items sell extremely fast and I get top dollar most of the time.
No hassle returns if a buyer is not satisfied... The Real Real just relists the returns. And eventually they do sell... The customer service is excellent. I know most of the crew and they know me... whenever I have a concern. They are always there to help.
Thank you The Real Real for a very pleasant and rewarding consigning experience!
Hello E.G.,
Thank you for sharing your feedback!
We are so happy to hear that you are satisfied with our service and consignment process.
We look forward to working with you in the future.
Got a watch from them that was broken. It's been over a year and they still have my watch that I tried to consign back to them since I couldn't return it. They refuse to consign it bc it's broken. Can't believe they sell item that are in bad shape and then blame it on the client. Unbelievable they are still around. Someone needs to shut them down.
Hello Cristina,
Thank you so much for reaching out I am extremely sorry to hear what happened in regards to this item but I would love to go ahead and look into this for you to see if we can get this re-evaluated, if you can go ahead and send over an email so that we can work this as thoroughly as possible.
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: [email protected].
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
The RealReal is the leader in authenticated luxury consignment. With an expert behind every item, we ensure everything we sell is 100% real. As a sustainable company, we give new life to pieces by brands from Chanel to Cartier, and hundreds more. Exten...
