I attempted to change a flight and gave them 5 possible days to change it to. They were completely unhelpful and told me that there was no availability during any of those 5 days even though they had switched my flight on me already in October. They purchase very few flights and have no relationship with the airlines they work with. I will never use their service again because a marginally cheaper flight is not worth booking with an organization that is completely incompetent and inflexible. On top of all of that, they were trying to charge an additional $100 fee on top of what I would already have to pay to the airline for StudentUniverse if they were actually able to change my flight.
It's not clear at all what are the cancellation policies. They always say that the ticket it's not refundable due to airline rules. However, the airline always say that they do cancellations, I just have to call the travel agency, in this case, StudentUniverse.
Do not buy flight tickets in student universe. You will regret.
I thought Student Universe was reliable until I cancelled my flight I booked through them with United Airlines and they left out very important information about cancelling flights.
Before I even cancelled the flight I asked what the conditions would be, it was explained to me that I would be charged $400 ($100 from Student Universe and $300 from United Airlines) and I would receive a flight credit for the amount of the original ticket price. It was also explained that I would have to use the flight credit with United Airlines within 300 days of the original purchase date.
What was not explained to me was that I have to go to the same destination. When I called Student Universe for the third time to finally book my new flight, this was finally revealed to me months after I cancelled the flight. This wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to pay an extra $300 for the increase in the price of flights to my original destination, meaning I am having to pay an extra $700 just to be able to use the flight credit that I originally paid for. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that I am being charged all these extra fees when Student Universe and United Airlines already has my money and they can't even be clear about the details of getting a flight credit from a cancellation, even in their email they send after a flight is cancelled.
So I warn you, before you cancel a flight with Student Universe make sure they tell you all the conditions and rules or you may have to pay almost twice as much as your original ticket!
DO NOT USE THEM. They are a horrible travel agency and dont care at all about their customers. They just want to sell to you and thats it. Take your money and then never actually help you. They outsource everything. Flight insurance they make you call another number to talk about it. They would not tell me anything about the insurance I purchased and said she didnt know what it covered. I am sorry how do you sell people things that you dont even know what it is! Also, to look at your itinerary again, another company handles it and it is in calendar view for each and every separate connection. Then, god forbid your flight is delayed or anything they make you deal with it and you have to call both them and the airlines to figure it out. Where both parties blame the other and says the other one has to help you. All SU does is blame the other parties they work with and make you go and talk to everyone to figure it out. What the hell do I pay them for?! Dont EVER book with SU.
I used this to fly to see my mom after my friend recommended it. I found a cheap flight, but I would have liked to see who the airline was. They keep that part hidden until you register with them.
