StudentUniverse Reviews Summary

StudentUniverse generally enjoys a positive reputation for providing affordable travel options, particularly for students and young travelers. Customers frequently commend the competitive pricing and ease of booking, often highlighting significant savings on flights. However, the company faces notable criticism regarding its customer service, particularly during high-demand promotions, where long wait times and difficulties in reaching support representatives are common concerns. Issues with confirmation and communication further detract from the overall experience. While customers appreciate the value offered, enhancing customer service responsiveness could significantly improve satisfaction levels.

Satisfactory Outcome -
October 8, 2019
Updated review

After much con-flab and me repeatedly saying that I did not make the error, I received a phone call from Student Universe telling me that they could see I had via a key stroke investigation I had in-fact written my daughters name on the form, & as a courtesy to me because I am a 1st time customer, they will carry out the name change FREE of charge - So all in all they did the right thing for which I am grateful. Thank u.

THE WORST COMPANY EVER! - DO NOT USE THEM!
October 4, 2019
Previous review

I booked only last night@ around 11pm.
I placed the booking for my daughter and her friend -
I wrote the details of each person in the said box's and then only my name was written in the credit card section - I checked and double checked the info before sending it off -
100% certain it was filled out correctly I pushed the purchase button. Straight away I received a message showing MY name on the ticket! - I contacted the via "chat" on their site to let them know the system had somehow made an error... I got no reply for over an hour even though it asked me to wait for a response - so eventually I had to sleep.
This morning I wake up to an email saying the ticket name cannot be changed! I'm on the phone to them right now and the RUDE lady is telling me that who ever I want to speak to is going to give me the same answer and that no one can help me - SHES VERY CONFIDENT THAT I WILL GET NO HELP ANYWHERE - SHAMEFUL SCAM - RIP OFFS - been on hold now 32 minutes! TELLING ME I HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW TICKET! ARE U KIDDING ME - I'M GOING TO THE OMBUDSMAN - OUTRAGEOUS! The ticket even has my Daughters date of birth on it - it was some thing on their web page that changed it - NOT ME... You know life is hard enough working hard, paying tax's trying to have time with your family and then u get ROBBED by company's that prey on the less fortunate. U people could be the straw the breaks the back of those who are truly trying to just cope in this life... TRY BEING HONORABLE!

All Good
October 6, 2019

Sent on card details and they confirmed my flight. Very good response time and customer service, all things considered. It's really annoying having to give such details to the card and commercial companies though, but not really anyone's fault I guess. Just SOP.

"I paid for my ticket. They could not process due to some card match issue. The same card details that I use everywhere else with no problem. What a bunch of morons. I now have to wait 10 days for the refund" (Initial Review)

Would not recommend
September 26, 2019

I would not recommend using student universe unless you are 100% sure that you will not need to cancel or change your flight. To cancel or change your flight you'll have to pay the airlines flight change fee along with student universe's fee (upwards of $275) along with the difference in ticket prices. Basically there is no such thing as flight credit if you need to cancel or change your flight because of how expensive their fees are. In addition to all of this their discounts aren't really discounted at least for domestic flights. I would say you're better off booking directly through an airline like spirit, Alaskan airlines, American Airlines, etc.

Hi there! We're sorry to hear you feel this. Unfortunately, yes, most of our flights are nonrefundable and change/cancellation fees are standard throughout the industry. Most of our flights are discounted up to 30% off, although of course the amount of discounting varies by route and airline. Keep in mind you can always use promo codes for more discounts, too! Let us know if we can do anything else for you; hope you can find a cheap flight next time!

Don't pay the extra for your dietary requirement, not only because you can do this for free usually yourself but because even if you do student universe won't bother to add it for you and you'll go hungry on your long distance flight.

It was a scam!
September 2, 2019

Asked for a refund for a return flight 20 days prior to the flight and they offered me $200 as refund for the $1500 that I payed for it. One way ticket on the same route is going at $1500 at the moment and they are refunding $200 and I am not even late. Kept me on hold for 1 hour so that I would hang up. Hate their customer service. Only buy if you are willing to waste the ticket if the circumstances change.

Hi there! Unfortunately, most of the flights we sell are non-refundable and will incur fees if you wish to change/cancel the flight. This is stated in the terms and conditions of the flight during the checkout process, so you can also double-check in advance if you'll be eligible for a refund if you cancel your trip. We do offer free refunds on almost all of our flights within 24 hours of purchase, but after that, we are subject to the airline's fare rules on cancellation and changes. Please feel free to let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.

It's not about the cost, all airlines charge to reschedule.

They forgot to update my seat preference for which I PAID and insisted on particular seat. 16hrs flight travels are worst with the dumbest seat (middle seat): P

They don't care about their agent's mistake to CHARGE for seat but NOT RESERVE the seat.

Studentuniverse was "unable" to find any other flights that matched my itinerary, even though I had provided several options, and refused to refund me my money. Currently cant pay next months rent in order to fund another flight to my program.

I am a graduate student at Tufts university Boston. I got an opportunity in Canada for my summer internship. I decided to travel to Canada in June through Grey hound bus and than come back to US through air. I heard about student universe from a friend and he told me that the tickets are really discounted for students. So before travelling to Canada i decided to purchase a round trip ticket(From Toronto to Boston and after one day back to Canada* because i had a commencement ceremony which i need to attend on 2 august 2019). So i purchased a ticket from student universe the ticket was 220$ and while check out there was a box which is usually there in all website that i agree to the terms. I checked that and payment was done.
When i reached in Canada i heard that my visa doesn't allow me to come back to Canada again after my presentation on the 2nd august. So it was not in my control, shortly on 16 June i called student universe told my situation and asked them to change my reservation. They told me that the changing fees is more than the ticket and you should buy a new ticket. As per suggestion i bought a new ticket around 118$ one way. Than i requested them to refund my ticket which i purchased earlier by spending 220$, they said they can refund because its the porter airline. I called porter airline and told my situation that i am informing you guys almost 45 prior to my travel that i have situation and i cant travel on these dates, they said its all agent concern not ours. So i called student universe by long conversations they have still the same answer no we cant reimburse your ticket, even i was agreed to get 50% of it back but they didn't paid me anything. This kind of behavior by agent is not even acceptable in war zones. They are using student name and doing a business. They just focus on making money no other motives. I spent 337 dollars total and from which 220$ is gone to waste. They know how students get this much money by working atleast 20 hours job in a week. Please keep away from them and i am planning to file a case against them so that next time they will not do this to others.

Hi Gufran, We're sorry to hear you were surprised with the rules of changing tickets and travel plans. However, most of the tickets we sell are non-refundable, so we're unable to provide refunds in case of changes or cancellations. This would be noted in the terms of the ticket which you agreed to when you purchased initially. If you think there's anything else we should look into for you, we'd be happy to try and make things right. Just send us a DM with your email and/or StudentUniverse reservation number.

Website failures, issue with the booking, and supremely unhelpful customer service. Instead of having my request answered, I was advised to "reserve a set for only $5," etc. Unbelievable. Screwed over twice
May 29, 2019

First time: Booked wrong hotel room with hotel after telling me I had two bedrooms, argued with me about it, etc.

SECOND TIME: The day before I leave to go see my sick Grandmother, I look to check in to my flight that had been booked two months before. Long story short my flight didn't exist anymore: the airline I was using was a small contract airline that had cancelled all their flights. I WAS THE ONE that had to find that out. They never contacted me.

Then they tell me it isn't their fault my flight was cancelled and I had to go to the other airline. However this airline wouldn't respond to me. But it would respond to student universe for whatever reason.

None of the customer service representatives, and I mean NONE OF THEM, over the past 4 trips or so I have used know what they are doing. And they don't understand the fact that if I give them money, it is their job to refund me. NOT someone elses.

They are poor communicators, and youll talk to one person that will say we will email you the same day (they don't), so you call them again and another representative says something different.

TERRIBLE COMPANY.

Hi there, We're really sorry you've been disappointed in your experiences with us! If a flight is changed or cancelled, you should receive an email notification for the change at the email address on your account. However, flight changes and cancellations by the airline are out of our control, and so refunds and changes must be approved by the airline as well. If you would like us to look into anything further for you, we'd be happy to help. Just send us a DM with your email and invoice number.

My girlfriend and I booked our flight tickets from Geneva back to NYC. We booked them separately, but made sure we had the same flight times and airline number. When we both clicked purchase, we were certain that the flights were the same and that everything was set.

Our mistake was perhaps to check the receipt, but the problem that occurred seems to have come from the Student Universe website. We both booked tickets for American Airline flights from Geneva to London Heathrow and then London Heathrow to New York JFK. However, a few days before, we noticed that my girlfriend's receipt had American Airlines flight, whereas mine had a British Airways flight. We figured out that the first flight was actually the same (my gf's ticket said American Airlines operated by British Airways, and was a different flight number, but same gate and time). However, the second flight was different, and required me to transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick.

We tried calling customer service to switch one of our flights but they said they couldn't because one was booked from American Airlines and the other from British Airways. We tried finding the British Airways equivalent of my gf's flight from London Heathrow to JFK, but by that time it was more expensive to change flights than to simply book a new flight.

I understand that customer service had to respect the respective airline's policies for changing flights, however, you cannot 1) change flight schedule without notifying the customer. Because there was no notification, there was no proof that we had actually made sure the book the same flights, even though we are 100% sure we did. 2) Student Universe needs to hold itself responsible for whatever mistakes happen in whatever algorithms they use to book flights through airlines. If I'm clicking on an American Airlines flight, it needs to book through American Airlines, not British Airways.

Customer service was polite, not complains about that, but I would stay away from Student Universe as the platform is simply not reliable and needs fixing.

Hi there! Sorry about the confusion—we definitely see how this could be confusing. We do have notices on our site that will alert the customer to flight details such as which airline is operating the flight or if an airport change is required for an itinerary. Sometimes a flight will be owned by one airline, but operated by another carrier—as you noticed with your girlfriend's flights. Of course, this will also be noted on the itinerary as well. However, we know that all of these small details can be very confusing when booking flights! Also, if the flight is changed by the airline, you will receive a notification email. If you'd like us to look into this further for you, feel free to send us your email address or invoice number and we'd be happy to take a closer look at what happened!

I haved booked a return trip from Dallas to Delhi which was scheduled on May 10 and the schedule of the flight changed. So they gave me the alternative option which isn't fitting my schedule. So the customer service representative cancelled the flight and initiated the full refund process. He has also emailed me about the refund and said that the refund will be processed shortly and now they are saying they are denying the refund. My flight is on May 10. Also, StudentUniverse has been at fault innumerable times in our case. First of all you guys do not inform us about any flight changes i. E., cancellation of our flight. It is we who saw the changes and got back to you just getting to know this only 1 week prior from scheduled departure.

Secondly, after bringing it to your notice we were being on call with you for next 48 hours calling your representatives to give us feasible options. The only feasible options you people have is either flight requiring transit visa or which are out of my schedule which we cannot arrange within span of 7 days for our travel.

Then by evening after talking with your multiple representatives you give us the option of flight cancellation with full refund we asked Eric 5 times and he said yes mam we confirm. Even we asked for a proof via mail because we really didn't believed you guys by then. And yes, this is the behavior we are getting from you for the third time. If you guys guarantee a customer that you will refund the entire money how can you come back to us after 2 days saying that you deny it.

I think StudentUniverse do have respect in market and you have some ethicalness or credibility.Or else this organization is really suffering from ethical issues. As a student you have harassed us to the extreme end during our exam times and now you don't want to refund our money also. I think if you guys give me any further trouble i will definitely carry bad word for you within entire student community so that no one can further trust StudentUniverse.

We just need back our money as assured by you. You cannot go back on your words. Please have some respect for your customers. This is the worst way in which organizational ethics are being applied.
