Never Use This Site

Wow what a terrible website and company. They tried to charge me a $330 penalty (nearly double what the airline itself was charging) to change my flight destination amid the Coronavirus outbreak. I understand that last minute flight changes will demand a cost, but the fact that the airline was charging almost half the price of StudentUniverse is absolutely absurd. Also the customer service is trash. I waited 5+ hours for a callback about changing my flight. Never use this website! Book with the airline!

A Complete Joke

I had to cancel my flight due to a personal family emergency as my grandmother had a stroke. I waited for five hours for them to tell me nothing could be done. The woman I talked to was nice. However, I first wanted to change my destination- that was not possible. Then, I wanted to get some kind of refund- again, not possible because it didn't happen to an immediate family member according to the airline. I will never fly through student universe again and will make sure all of my friends and family do not, either. Again, the woman I was finally able to talk to after waiting for five hours was nice (and the reason I will give a star) but everything else about this company is absolutely awful. Never again will they get money from me.

Dreadful experience trying to cancel my flights. In the 24hrs immediately following my reservation, I attempted multiple times to call SU customer service to cancel it. I waited for 1-2 hrs each time (photo) and STILL couldn't get to them despite being told I was the "first in queue." Twice I left my phone number with them as they promised they would note down my place in line and would call me back, but no one ever called.

If you want to enforce the policy that flights can only be cancelled for free for 24hrs, and ONLY through phone, then you better pick up the damn phone. Please don't pull the coronavirus excuse with me, as I was the "first in queue," unless you are lying to your customers. If I can't get through after repeated calls, sometimes non-stop, then it's YOUR responsibility to cancel and refund my reservation. Or you should've given me other alternatives to cancel to begin with.

I would like to discuss my case that i face with studentuniverse.com i booked my flight from Vancouver to new Delhi for 22nd april and it was return ticket with free cancellation any time no cancellation charges. My layover was at China as it was Air China with the increasing health problem of deadly corona virus i called up their customer service to cancel my flight for the trip, the customer service ended up with 350$ cancellation charges. That's ridiculous why would i pay for the cancellation charges when i booked the flight free from cancellation charges any time.
They are now telling its your voluntary cancellation, so you have to pay these charges and willnot get full refund back. Please do not waste your time booking from Studentuniverse.com i had very bad experience.

Hi Siddharth, we apologize for your frustration. Most of the tickets we sell have a free cancellation period of 24 hours, after which there is a cancellation fee associated with the ticket. Right now, it looks like the airline is only providing free cancellations/refunds due to the Coronavirus for flights that are scheduled for before March 31st, which is likely why we can't provide you with a full refund at this time. Unfortunately, most of our flights are nonrefundable, which you can see in the terms and conditions prior to booking, which typically means we are unable to offer a refund in the event that you'll need to cancel. All insurance claims must go through the insurance company and are subject to their approval. Not helpful at all

Just stay away from this. There is nothing they can do to help. I had schedule clash and had to change my flight and I was told that I can't reschedule because my tickets were bought at a discounted price and the flights I was going to change were regular flights. Unerstand that I need to pay the price difference and service fee but this is not making any sense. Also cancellation gets no money back- I got this but the customer service was like a machine, saying that this is airline policy and not helping figure out any possible solution for the customer's good. Just, stay away, they are not helping AT ALL.

For example, cancellation fees are often more expensive than the ticket itself, if it wasn't a very expensive ticket, which is why sometimes there aren't any refund available for the flight. So initially, I was not sure why people were complaining so much... but after reading a bunch of the complaints here I figured it out: This world is full of morons, I swear! A lot of people here are blaming this website for their lack of common sense or their stupid mistakes... and some of these same people serve on jury duty and decide someone's fate or destiny... very, very scary!
Student Universe is no different then most other online travel agencies - you book a flight, you get your confirmation, they email you the e-ticket and then you go on your trip. We took a trip to Japan this last month and we found some really good and convenient tickets on Student Universe. And we compared at least 20 different sites and I called some travel agents that I use as well - no one could offer better flights or better prices! The only reason I left 4 and not 5 stars was because I never got the second email with the e-tickets, I only received the initial confirmation email with the reservation code. After I waited for a few days I decided to give them a call... someone answered right away, they were very helpful, emailed me the e-tickets while still on the phone and offered some useful tips about luggage, online check-in, airport information and such. And yes, there was some issues with some flights, some delays but... none of it was to be blamed on Student Universe, it was actually due to adverse weather and the actual airline, which by the way was Air Canada. I have been flying international all my life, I have used many different websites and travel agents... So I can comfortably state that my experience with Student Universe was pleasant, trouble free and saved me a great deal of time and money - 18.5 hour trip from MCO ( USA) to NRT ( Japan) for $889.00 total, and only one stop in YUL ( Canada)! How can anyone complain about that? I mean... seriously folks!
Now the cheaper the ticket is the more restrictions it has and everyone should understand that! A lot of times these tickets are not refundable and changes are very costly, and it does not matter where you buy the ticket from! And when you submit wrong information or you book a ticket for October instead of December... don't try to blame the travel site for being a moron! Or if you get disconnected while processing payment or you get an error... why would you go to another website right away to buy another ticket without trying to find out what happened? That is just $#*!ed and you cannot blame anyone else but yourself, I am sorry! Some people are just ridiculous!
Overall GREAT experience and looking forward to future travel plans!

Student universe is actually horrible. They lie a lot and the narrative changes every time I've called. The first original time I used their site they charged me twice without letting me know that they were charging me twice. That ticket was refunded and the money still has not made its way to my account. I've called a total of 4 time and the refund date has change four times. It went from 3-5 day to 7-10 days to 1 month to 2 months. They are very rude and dismissive. They don't listen to the different lies that they tell you. They are continuously trying to make me sound wrong when I'm fully capable of hearing and understanding the words said to me. 10/10 would not recommend to any body unless your up for scams. They also charged my good friend a total of 314.65 when she was under the impression that she was only spending 265.15. They suck.
Pleas excuse all mistake I'm highly pissed off with these people and this company

S. U. booked my son on Norwegian Air from Newark to Rome and back. Norwegian Air stopped flying to Newark and rerouted him to JFK, 2 hours away by car. No accommodation was made and SU did nothing to help us. On the day of the flight, the flight was cancelled and we were told there was no other flight for 2 days. Again, SU did nothing but offer a refund. The price of flights were more than double. They kept telling us there was nothing they could do. They were worthless and a waste of time as I spent more time on hold than speaking to a customer representative.

I'd like to warn other Australian travelers about this "service". Went in to my usual student travel agency (use em whenever I travel, normally the best price and reliable service) and asked them to price beat studentuniverse, the agent said they can't beat it because the fare isn't available and student universe was showing "old fares". It was about $120 difference so I thought maaaybe the agent was trying to make a huge commission or something. Thought I was being smart, went home and booked online with SU straight away. 'lo and behold! Still no e-ticket or confirmation 24hrs later, called to find out the fare doesn't exist anymore and is now $250 more! Money has been deducted from my account but could take weeks to refund, so I either have to pay up the difference or wait for a refund and by then the flights could be way more. Lesson learned, either book direct with the airline or with a physical agent who are actually accountable for s**t like this, quite frankly in hindsight I would've preferred to pay $120 in commission and have a trustworthy company handles thousands of dollars worth of travel plans. Lesson Learned.

Horrible site

Don't use this site! They have horrible prices and refunds will cost you 40 dollars even if you only booked the flight the previous day. Their prices are over 100 dollars more expensive than on other sites

Company makes good

To make a long story short, after looking into my complaint the company issued a full tefund of my ticket. My suggestion is to write to the company via their website and to lodge a complaint with the BBB. It seems that i got their attention that way.

I recently tried booking a flight from Toronto to Newark but after going through the entire process, including providing my payment details, the website informed me that there was a problem processing my request and I should try again later. Some time later I received an email saying that there is a flight in my cart and that I should go back to complete the transaction. I chose to use another site since I didn't want to waste time trying again just to be told that it couldn't be processed. Three days before the flight I was surprised to get en email from StudentUniverse with a reminder about my flight. I immediately called in to ask why they think I booked a flight since when I tried I was told they couldn't process the flight. The rep told me there is nothing they can do since it is in the hands of the airline. I could't convince them that they should take responsibility for their mistakes. I will never trust this company again.

Very dissapointed...

Upon booking tickets, the money was gone from my bank and no confirmation on laptop screen and no email varification for long time. Had to chat with them and agaid had to give all the details of all travelling passengers... then finally got tickets. And then again no luggage info provided on tickets... ommm. Agaid with chat, they asked to provide all the passengers each details... just terrible.

Booked a flight with them, got a confirmation and airline booking code. A few days later I went online to select seats and it turned out the booking "didn't go through", according to StudentUniverse. Thanks god I hadn't waited all the way until the flight time to find out I didn't have the tickets. Never again!

I booked a flight with student universe 2 days ago. I just received an email about the cancellation of my flight because the card info did not match, even though i use the same info on all other site checkouts. They said they will refund me in 10 days time, but after reading the reviews, im afraid i wont receive the refunds. Do i rebook a ticket with them or will this just be a waste of more money? I am confused about the situation. Did anyone have similar experience?

For example, some British Airways flights might be operated by another airline within their alliance. You can always see this in the flight information before you book if you're interested. A Scammy Company

This one star is only for good customer service. I order two flight tickets from the company yesterday and found that the numbers in my bank statement didn't add up right. I had surcharges which were not showing on the original invoices after my purchase. I call the customer service and one representative patiently went through the verification process with me and confirmed the surcharges were true. However, after I ordered a complete refund, the confirmation emails I received were STILL showing inconsistencies with LESSER money being refunded to my account. This difference is even greater than the surchatges! I absolutely DO NOT recommend you guys to purchase tickets from this website. Why am I fell like I've been tricked by this company.
