The overall reputation of Select Home Warranty is predominantly negative, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction regarding service delays, claim denials, and poor customer support. Many reviews highlight a troubling pattern of unfulfilled promises, lack of transparency in policy coverage, and difficulty in obtaining reimbursements. Conversely, a few customers noted the affordability of the plans and positive initial interactions with sales representatives. Do not purchase more than 1 month at a time, request a refund for a multi year contract after not satisfied with response to attempt to make a claim, so frustrating, no repairman in my area would accept select home warranty and there were no repair people available from, select home warranty. I had to buy a new washer. When I call 4-5 weeks ago, (today is 5/16/23) I asked to cancel, was told that the cancellation was complete and a check would come in 4-5 weeks. No check yet, so I called today 5/16/23 and was informed the contract had not been cancelled and I have been charged for another month, there has been no refund processed. Now I have to wait for a call back from a supervisor to cancel.@#%$%&^%%. Not only that I am being charged until it's cancelled, spending much time on hold and repeating actions over and over. Additionally the individuals I've talked to ask repeatedly why I want to cancel and try to bargain with me to remain with the company, I repeat I want to cancel, I don't want to be doing this over and over and being charged daily for the Select Home Warranty to hold the contract open and hold on to my $5,000.00 of dollar. It appears the company will stall and stall, this has been my experience.
TAKE NOTE THAT POSITIVE REVIEWS are all about the salesperson when they purchased the service contract - THAT is because they offer a discount if you leave a review - - ALL the ACTUAL repair requests are NEGATIVE!
The agent was rude and did not listen to the service repair tech that YOU sent! She called him on a three-way call and disregarded what he explained to her.
My claim was denied - I was initially told it was not "normal wear and tear" -
When I appealed because the repair service YOU sent specifically said "normal wear and tear" I was denied again - and then I was told it was because the report said - "no hot water & leaking"
She said "Leaks are not covered" I explained the leak was caused by the failure of the heating element... I didn't have a leak... that caused the break!
The repair guy explained that he saw no visible leak, just a damp floor, you will find that at any broke hot water heater!
The service man called me after this call and said I can not believe what they are doing!
English is my second language but the fact that I wrote that there was water coming from a water heater should not make your claim denied!
It is an old water heater that needs to be replaced due to normal wear.
Filed 3 claims in the course of a year and a half all three denied bogus reasons total scam they look for any reason to deny your claim and when all else fails for them they say depreciation and will only offer you $200 at most and only after you submit a paid invoice. Customer service works off flow charts which is circuitous and gets you nowhere. Even talking to a manager has the same result and excuses. They say they are in NJ but I'm almost certain they are not
I submitted a claim for my clothes dryer and Select Warranty sent out someone, who showed up in his car and only a screwdriver. He could not get the back panel or top panel off the dryer, decided it was the knob since the knob controls the electricity. I paid the $65 service fee which was the only concern he really had. Gave me his phone number and stated to call him the following day. He was going to see whether the part was available or would have to be ordered.I called him the following day, phone went direct to voice mail nd no messages as mail box was full. The same day I got an email from Select Warranty stating the dryer cannot be repaired and will give me $150 when I provide receipt of new dryer. Emailed and called Select Warranty explained the dryer is like brand new not a rust bucket and requested they send out a service repairman with a truck, tools and parts who knew what he was doing to fix the dryer. They stated they had reconciled the claim and would be doing nothing more.
I'm the type of person who gets a warranty on everything so I'm very familiar with how this usually works. I have never delete with a company like this. It just seems like a scam. I'll never use this company again. A lot of people are saying this for a reason. I don't even see how they have a rating this high. Stay away!
Paid $485.98 for their top-tier Platinum Care plan, plus extra coverage for 2nd freezer and frig. Had one claim for a frig that needed repair (I paid for service call per contract). They decided to "buy me out" for the frig instead of repairing it and depreciated it to $175. Frig still "works" and could be repaired for far less than a new frig, but they won't cover that and say I have to buy a new frig, send the invoice, and THEN they'll send my $175. So now I'll be out the entire repair bill (to save myself $ compared to new frig) since we can't afford a whole new one. Basically $500 wasted on a useless "warranty".
Avoid like the plague!
We - and even more so our guests, have dealt with the joys of having a broken heater/AC in the guest area of our home. The fact that three of our guests thus far have had the pleasure of experiencing it speaks volumes about the efficiency of the company we've entrusted our home warranty to. We reported the issue over four weeks ago, and they've shown an exceptional commitment to procrastination in addressing our claim. Every time we reach out to them, they assure us that a supervisor will call us the very next morning. We can only admire their consistency in either not returning the call, or having someone who barely speaks English avoiding to deal with our claim. Their customer service team takes the term "language barrier" to new heights, with English that is barely comprehensible. They claim they are in New Jersey - they are not, the accent is probably from the Philippines or thereabouts. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but the only training these people have had is to ask how they can help, and then making absolutely sure they avoid doing so. Stunningly useless. Our tireless efforts to get the heater replaced have been met with a level of productivity that would make a sloth proud. With two years into a five-year warranty and around $5000 invested in this "home warranty" company, we can't help but question the wisdom of staying with this company any longer. Switching to another home insurance provider seems more tempting by the day regardless of the financial hit we will take. They are utterly useless. The B- rating for this company must be a testament to their uncanny ability to be both disappointing in customer service and poor in value for money, but it does not reflect reality, which in our experience is way worse. My wife has developed a newfound hobby of calling them daily, only to be met with the sweet sound of unhelpful responses in barely intelligible English. Their latest magnanimous offer as of today is to cover the cost of the part only (we'll get excited when this turns out to be real, at least), which we can all agree is the epitome of generosity. In light of our experience, we would wholeheartedly recommend thinking twice before signing up with this home warranty company. They must, hopefully, be at the bottom of their league. Whatever you do, go somewhere else!
Don't Fall for It! No Peace of Mind!
I have been with Select Home Warranty for about 3 months now. I have filed three different claims and each one has truly been a nightmare from their lack of customer service to their looking for any and all reasons to either deny a claim, refer to fine print exclusions, or pay you pennies on the dollar to replace or repair your item. If I were you, I would NOT RECOMMEND them or other warranty companies these days. Save your money in an account for the annual premium and use that money to fix or replace your items yourself. You will use hours trying to get them to help or reimburse you for items. There is NO peace of mind with Select and I'm so sorry I fell for the shiny brochures and slick sales talk that things would be taken care of. You will not be able to understand the English of the reps on the phone or the technicians that come to your house! Again, save your money and don't fall for Select Home Warranty or other "warranty" type companies like this
They don't respect their own contract. When they no longer have excuses because you make a claim with your contract in hand, they just say they won't pay you and offer you a free month or some crazy thing. Why do I want a free month of fake insurance? Ridiculous. Read your contract but don't expect this insurance to respect it. It's pure scam. Notice in their contract that they say the insurance doesn't cover you for the first 30 days. Later it says that it will cover partially during the first 90 days. However when i made a a claim after 45 days, they refused my claim complaining that i requiere 90 days in the plan to make a claim (even partially). They argued that the first 30 days don't count (but they still charged me) and when I read the contract to them, they argued more and more until finally they didn't have arguments and said they won't pay but they could give me a free month. Select home warranty insurance and old republic, they both are fraudulent companies. We better have a saving account instead of wasting money in dishonest and hopeless insurance.
Purchased a warranty from them a couple of years ago. Finally submitted a legitimate claim. They sent out a tech from a reputable company. He submitted his review of the problem and the many items that needed to be replaced. The company took two weeks to finally make a decision and declined the coverage for no valid reason. You can't talk with anyone in the Response team who makes the decision. So you have no person to explain or discuss anything with. THE WORST COMPANY TO BUY FROM. DON'T WALK AWAY, RUN AWAY
Select Warranty is a complete scam. They advertise, market, and sell to you the false idea that if anything goes wrong in your home they will reimburse you for the full cost of the issue or damage. This is so far from the truth. My hot water heater stopped working in the middle of winter. First of all, it took them over 2 weeks to "resolve" the claim (they advertise 48 hours to resolve claims), and their version of resolving the claim was to offer me $300 on a $5,000 repair. Have you ever lived through a cold winter without hot water for 2 weeks? When I complained and threatened to cancel, they offered me $400. When I threatened again, they offered me $500. This company is a scam. STAY FAR AWAY!
Their claims and customer call centers are based entirely in India and their agents read from a script repeatedly and try to prevent you from cancelling the policy. It is impossible to speak with someone in the US. If you insist on cancelling, they pass you on from one person to the next eventually claiming you have to speak to a supervisor. That person is never available and has to call you back "later". STAY FAR AWAY!
In the end, I cancelled my policy and did not get a full refund. I cannot say this enough... STAY FAR AWAY! You have been warned.
I wanted peace of mind, and I bought a Select Home Warranty for 3 1/2 years costing almost $1500. Peace of mind ended when our ice maker stopped functioning, and I made my first claim. I was told that the refrigerator was covered but not the ice maker. Huh? Then I was told additional coverage for the ice maker was normally $240, but I could get a reduced price of $124! Plus a $65 service fee. So, $200 later I'll get an email within 48 hours to schedule service. What a corrupt and misleading business model. I'm so disappointed.
This company was called on a Saturday about a plumbing back up. Aside from the frustration of a plumbing situation there was the repeated "What did you say" over and over again! Now, there were two emails indicting. That the Plumbing incident would take two days at minimum to be addressed! I wonder if the owner of the company would have to wait for two days to have someone come in to look at the plumbing issue? So, Sat, Sun, Mon came and went and after speaking to a so-called supervisor...late Monday night! Wahla...in the entire state of Florida and city of Tampa and Clearwater...they found the only plumber in Omar! Oh, and SHW said that this was the only plumber in Florida that they could find! Liars! Needless to say, if you are reading this... you need to know that SHW did not pay a penny for the repair! Nope, I had to pay for not only the service person to come but also for the repair! I would not only walk away I would RUN as fast as I could from SHW! They are scam artists!
Read the fine print very carefully!
Contract overview says they cover any age equpimento without need for service records. BUT between the exclusions and the prorated value of your equipment and max amounts covered you would be better off putting your money in a sock for when you need a repair done.
AND don't bother cancelling the policy expecting a partial refund. After their calculation of what the refund is you won't be getting much (anything) back. I've had my contract for 3 1/2 years out of a 6 year contract with 1 claim they say cost them $235. My refund would have been $0 if I had cancelled, which is the only reason I still have the contract.
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM HERE TO TELL YOU HOW BAD THESE PEOPLE ARE. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY. LIARS. THEY DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR COMPLAINTS EITHER.
Do not waste your time or money with this company. I paid them every month for a year and a half. Called them with a dishwasher problem took so long for them to respond neighbor unclogged it. Next time my bathroom sink neighbor repaired it 3rd time my oven took 3 weeks for them to get part and repair it. 4th time hot water tank was without hot water for a week. The company would not ok the parts to be replaced in a timely manner. We ended up buying a new tank and having it installed. $2129. The platinum plan was Repair or Replace. We were told they could only give us $225 on the bill that was the first of January still waiting on the check. Bottom line if you want a company that will stand by there repair or Replace policy use American home shield. I went back to them immediately. You pay for what you get. I should have looked them up with the B B B. They are not accredited. Terrible Reviews. A Joke I am more upset with myself than the company I Know cheaper is not better. Trying to save and ended up not having hot water for over a week. Back with American Home Shield paying double the premium but if something breaks they will repair it or replace it this I know from experience.
DISHONEST AND CORRUPT! They take your money and offer nothing. I found out the hard way. The first three months they don't cover anything. Then after the first three months they only cover partially the value of the repair. I paid the full years cost trusting that they would honor the coverage. I have always had a home warranty company since I've owned my home. I recently dropped a warranty company for not honoring their word. So, I decided to join Select and try them out. Nope! They were worse. My air conditioner went out ($6000), and they refused the claim. I didn't expect Select to pay the full amount but they could have at least offered to pay something. So, tomorrow I have to contact them about returning my years pay to them. They will probably try to keep that also. Read the contract thoroughly on these warranty companies, this one is completely CORRUPT!
Do your Due Diligence. And Read the 30 page Terms. They are not to be trusted.
When you purchase a policy, you have to wait for 30 days for it to start. Understandable. However, they also have a clause that says they will reject your claim for replacement if it's within the first 30 days after start. So once you purchase a policy, nothing should need replacement for at least 60 days.
Also, all appliances have a $400-500 cap. Except HVAC which is like $3000. So if your wall oven you bought 3 years ago for $4000... if it dies, they only pay out $500. No where near what you would need to replace it.
Finally, if your policy end date is 3/31 for example. You can't open a claim on 3/31. So if your Dishwasher brakes at 6am on 3/31... too late. Policy is expired even though your paper works says it expires 3/31.
Absolute horrendous customer service. But they know and recite the terms like the back of their hands and can tell you exact clause used to reject your claim without a moments of delay. Do not use.
It has been one of the worst experiences ever with a claim, due to the fact, my first claim was for a dryer over 10 years old they will not fix or replace. I was offered $100 period
Second claim for a furnace. It has been two weeks after they sent me a company and my furnace is not working. Still no response no approval no communication. Every time I call they will say will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours.
This company is impossible to reach once you have a filed claim. After my waiting period (>30 days from signing the contract), my garbage disposal froze up. They set up a plumber to come to my house. When he evaluated that it needed to be replaced, he said he had to call SHW and get approval. He couldn't reach them, so he installed it anyway. The next day, he called me and said SHW denied the claim so I had to pay him the remainder of the work. I did, because it wasn't his fault, but SHW put me on hold for 1.5 hours and then told me the claim department went home for the day so I'd have to call back. When I finally called, they said I was still in my waiting period (I wasn't) and wouldn't approve the claim. I demanded my money back, and they put me on another hold. They tried to keep my business, but I knew (and the plumber also warned me) that they would always try to get out of replacement/repairs. I got my money back (most of it...they kept $84 of the $1320 I paid). Please read BBB reviews before purchasing a home warranty plan.
Answer: Scam. Do not trust. They lie and will NOT cover your items.
Answer: Based on Internet searches but quickly found out that they are a SCAM.
Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
Answer: They are fast when signing you but so slow in responding and they are a total scam had to pay out of pocket for my leak repair that they should fix
Answer: Stay away from this company, get your money back ASAP. The longer you wait, the less money you get back.
