The company enjoys a generally positive reputation, with customers frequently praising the high quality and variety of snacks, as well as the delightful presentation of the boxes. Many appreciate the unique cultural experience and the inclusion of artisanal products. However, concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly related to subscription practices and inadequate support during issues such as shipping damage or billing disputes. While the product experience is often celebrated, the lack of transparency and responsiveness in customer service leaves some customers feeling frustrated. Overall, the company has potential but must address service shortcomings to enhance customer satisfaction.

Sakuraco is my absolute favourite subscription box! I'm always so excited to find out what each months theme is going to be, and it never disappoints! Each box is so well prepared and packed with such a wide variety of top quality snacks. I've tried so many different types of traditional Japanese treats thanks to sakuraco, I especially love the manju and mochi. The box also comes with one homeware item, this is what sets sakuraco apart from other subscription boxes, and they're always adorable items that I cherish and collect. The accompanying booklet guides you through everything in the box and is interesting reading for a Japanese culture enthusiast. Sakuraco is a fantastic subscription service that I thoroughly recommend!
Yet to recieve box after 30+ days, no uptades on arrival time at all, total waste of 45 dollars. To make things worse they have an extremely shady cancellation policy, they charged for another box even tho i tried cancelling before a month had gone by, apparently you can't cancel within 48 hours of rebilling of your subscription. The site also makes cancelling the box very tedious, requiring the customer to scroll all the way down and manually write CONFIRM to cancel the subscription. Overall a bad experience, can't comment on the box itself as it hasn't arrived yet and doesn't look to be arriving.
We just received our second Sakura box today. The snacks, treats, and tea in each have been delicious so far. Each box also has arrived with a beautiful little surprise dish that I can use beyond the box! I highly recommend!
Amazing items as usual. It had a great autumn theme, and I loved both the ceramic little bowl and the maple leaf shaped cookie has to be one of my favorites. It's supposed to arrive next month but I got it already and I couldn't be more happy! So fast delivery
My first Japanese snack box Love the variety of goodies in it! I like how some snacks have direct connection with the festive themeCan't wait to try them all I kinda like that it comes with a little mini guide booklet that introduces on the snacks and some info about Kyoto as well as the festive season in Japan. I find it to be pretty helpful & informative. Definitely tick my interest to visit Japan someday! I'm also quite impressed with their shipping speed too as I wasn't expecting it to arrive within 3 days time. Overall a great first time experience with Sakuraco Look forward for more boxes with festive themes like this in the future!
The boxes are fine but the policy is totally predatory. See customer service exchange below:
Me: "I canceled this subscription, why have I been charged and 6 more are shipping! Please cancel, refund and advice asap"
Sakuraco via their presumed parent company Tokyo Treat "We apologize for the inconvenience.
To clarify, Sakuraco is a subscription-based service and has auto-renewal billing. You will be charged automatically if your subscription is still active on the next renewal date stated under your Order Summary upon checkout. You can also check the status of your subscription, including its renewal date, via your Customer Portal (see the attachments).
Unfortunately, we can't refund the payment that has gone through our system and will ship the boxes that you have paid for. We have confirmed that your subscription has been canceled.
Hope this clarifies.
In the meantime, please let us know if you need any further assistance!"
Opening the first box was a holiday experience. The box itself is beautiful, and the presentation of the information booklet and the snacks and tea inside is immaculate. Everything fits so nicely.
Sorting through and reading about the snacks and tea is fun, and ingredient information is given in the booklet as well.
The saddest thing was creating a pile of snacks we could have, and a pile of snacks that we could not have. I went to the Sakuraco site to see if there was an option for a totally vegan box, but to no avail.
This box subscription was a gift to us, and we're so excited to get them for the next couple of months, but I'm really not looking forward to the same ritual of sorting out the snacks we can't have.):
If there was an option for a totally vegan box, even if it meant repeats of snacks, I would renew this subscription for myself.
The August box is fantastic!
Every flavour is different and a discovery. I love the little cultural introductions to every place, makes me want to visit every corner one day. The Sacred Spring at Jōgaku is simply magical
The Ichimatsu chopsticks…
I love it all!

I subscribed to the one month subscription. My first box arrived quickly within a week of being shipped via DHL. This was great! True to the "express shipping" claim. I placed the order Jun 7,2022 and received the box Jun 13,2022. I live in Canada and according to their shipping policies, express shipping should take 2-14 business days.
Jul 7,2022: I get an email notification from PayPal that I was charged for the next month's box. I also received an email invoice from Sakuraco. I would have appreciated a heads up email from Sakuraco about this. When you subscribe to items from other places (e.g., Walmart), they send you a courtesy email that you will be charged in 7 days for your subscription purchases as a reminder. Now that's excellent service.
I didn't receive a shipping notification from Sakuraco until Jul 17,2022 and I got a tracking number to a tracking service called "17 Track" but it said there was no tracking info and the number couldn't be found in their system. So I wait. 13 days pass and I email their customer support for help. They respond in 4 days saying that there is now updated shipping info and to please be patient and keep an eye on the tracking site. And if I don't receive it in a couple more WEEKS, to contact Canada Post for info. They also say that they are always finding and using new shipping carriers, so that's why DHL wasn't used this time around. I find in their Q&A about shipping, that they really can't do anything once a box is shipped. If my box never gets to me or gets lost, then I'm at a lost. I won't be reimbursed or have another box sent to me unless the box was sent to an incorrect address and then makes it back to them. Why would they switch a known and trusted shipping carrier for my second box? I've had excellent and fast shipping from other places via DHL.
Aug 7,2022: It's been a month since I was charged for the box and I still haven't received it. Shipping info hasn't been updated since Aug 2,2022. It's apparently in and originating from Chicago. Who knows when (if ever) I will receive my box.
I've waited over a month for my box and I don't appreciate being subject to different shipping methods when I paid $12US for *Express* Shipping. Unhappy customer here.
Boxes typically took 20+ to arrive
(this is after they make you pay for express shipping) after shipping meaning the snacks were stale and broken.
On top of that, Sakuraco does not offer customers renewal reminders whether you have a month, 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription. They are also completely non-refundable, zero exceptions.
After having an annual subscription I missed my cancellation date by a few hours, but Sakuraco renewed my annual subscription and refuses to cancel or refund me. I now owe $540 for snack boxes I do not want.
How hard would it be for Sakuraco to send a reminder a week or two before an annual plan renewed?
This seem to be a common complaints, the first time you subscribe, you will be getting your boxes on time and they use the same shipping company. After awhile or when you renew, the service becomes crappy and instead your box will never arrive and the excuse they change delivery service. I see this as a common review. On the tracking site - NO MOVEMENT AT ALL. And the customer service will tell you to be PATIENT. If you haven't been receiving your boxes and you already paid, how can you still be PATIENT. Sometimes I feel they think we consumers are stupid.
I very clearly selected to only buy one box. It even showed it on my profile page, yet they still charged me for a second one today. I tried to cancel it but there is no way. Also they do not allow you to remove your credit card details and info from your profile which is very sketchy. Don not buy from and support these SCAMMERS!
I was a subscriber of theirs for over a year. Now I was well aware that there was some price gauging involved but I was okay with paying extra as it came with fast shipping and reliable arrival time, in short I was getting the premium experience I was paying extra for.
Suddenly they decided that the express shipping we have been paying for is no longer a thing (but that we are still going to be charge the same amount for shipping) that they will now ship the box at whatever date and that we will get no indication what company is delivering the box or when it will arrive (it has been 2 weeks and still no indication of when I can expect the box I paid 63$ CAD for) and that they will renew our subscription without letting us know about that change. When contacted they either lie about being unable to give refunds or simply ignore you. They delete negative comments on their social media rather than give a response and they ignore legitimate questions from their customers. This company is horrible to deal with.
I paid 12.5$US for express shipping. I ordered 2 weeks ago and the tracking said that the item is yet to be received… today is my friend's birthday and I thought this box would be a perfect fit for her since she loves Japanese culture. But here I am, about to go to her birthday not having the gift that was supposed to be here by now… I am very disappointed in the service I have received so far. She will receive her birthday gift late even though I paid for express shipping… what a shame.
The items are very similar every month. After the second month I knew exactly what I would be getting in every box without any information. You will always get rice crackers, a type of cake and flavoured bread, cookies, jelly, and tea. The only difference each month is the flavour, whatever is the fruit of the season your box will be filled with items of that flavour. A lot of the items were just too sweet for me.
What is very shady about Sakuraco or TokyoTreats in general is they have AUTOMATIC renewals without any notifications or emails that they will renew even if your 3 or 6 month subscription is over. I cancelled my subscription right when I received an email that it has been automatically renewed. I contacted customer support right away and they refused to issue a refund or do anything about it. So now I am stuck with a very subpar 50$ CAD subscription for the next 6 months.
If you don't have positive comments in their community forums they will suspend you from the website. They don't value the opinions of their customers. I've attached a photo of a private message that was sent to me for having a different opinion. I said nothing rude or insulting to anyone in the chat or about the company.
They changed their shipping from DHL to some other carrier. So now the box takes 3 weeks to arrive instead of 5 days. Also, when I agreed to the subscription they said it was 25$ for DHL, so I was under the impression that my boxes would be sent by DHL, hence the extra 25$ shipping per box.
I love my Sakuraco Snack box! The beautiful gifts are wonderful to receive in every box. The snacks are also yummy and I am looking to give them as gifts to my family. This month's box I received delicious treats. My favorite this month was the Minimini Chocolate Dorayaki, milk bell castella, Hokkaido melon jelly, Sweetcorn chocolate, Hokkaido milk Danish, honobono cheese cookie, etc. The entire box was Awesomely good!
Sakuraco did not in any way make clear that when you purchase 3 months they mean 3 months at a time -- there was no notification at all via email or otherwise that they would charge me again, yet they went ahead and billed me for $140+ for an additional 3 months that I did not want. After I immediately reached out to request a cancellation and refund they initially ignored my email. I reached them via their ticket service page and they replied and told me no refunds, and also warned me that if I take it up with my bank they will hold the boxes I already paid for.
Do not buy from them -- this is false advertising and a total scam to me.
A beautifully curated snack box that's both delicious and educational. It's a great way to learn more about Japanese snacks and culture.
The snacks themselves are alright. Month to month, you kind of get the same thing, just slightly different to match the theme of the new month. The ceramic you receive in each box is almost never worth it or as exciting as you'd hope it to be (it's usually something that feels and looks cheap, i. E. it's made out of plastic).
The bigger issue is that they don't warn you that they auto-renew your subscription, and they refuse to prorate the rest of your subscription. In other words, a full year's subscription is $540. They renew your subscription and charge you, and then the day after, they ship out the box and claim they cannot do a partial refund because the 1st box has already shipped-- it's bull$#*!. So you're stuck paying $540 for a prepaid service of $#*!ty, overpriced snack boxes that they somehow can't stop.
They have great boxes filled with goodies i've never had before but the part of the business that leaves a sour taste for me is the model. They don't really help you in the service department or are very understanding. Everything is a sales final kind of case and renewal's are up to a year without notice or warning. So $500 without approval once you sign up for a box. Fun box, just be careful on the subscription
Answer: They are a legitimate company, but they do not have a refund policy and do not notify customers of automatic renewals.
Answer: I love the creatively curated themes and items in each box, and every month comes with a pamphlet not just talking about the products, but giving information on their importance to Japanese history and culture.
Answer: I have seen some reviews of bokksu but I haven't tried their box so can't compare.
