They abuse your pets don't trust my friends husky came with wounds and my other friend they let medication out and the dog ate it all they leave your pet unsupervised and neglects them
. Ade an appointment a week in advance. She was late and then made excuses. Her boyfriend... blah blah blah. She stated she was texting me as she was driving... then lied and said she was a t a red light. I was hit in my car by an irresponsible jerk like her. Do I want her to sit. Y pets... hell no. I called To er and the agent justified her texting while driving. AVOID Rover.
Mis treated dogs, they refuse to do anything to compensate if a dog is mistreated. Do better rover :(
I hired Cassi C in the Minneapolis area to housesit and dogsit. Explicit directions verbally the day before I left, and in writing. My dog is 4 lbs and recovering from surgery. She texted me throughout and said she was at my home. I was ill and came home early - only to find she was LYING THE WHOLE TIME. It was quite obvious no one had slept in my bone and my dog was acting very scared. The sitter apparently picked up my dog, and brought her to her parents house in Burnsville MN and told me she was at MY home. Talked to me on phone, sent photos, all lies. They have other animals, I have no idea what my dog was fed, where she slept, etc as Cassi and her father couldn't get their lies straight. Long story short when reported to Rover - they could care less. Due to "privacy policies" they will not tell me where my dog was while I was away, and this woman *is still listed on the site*. I am physically disabled and she went on to make fun of me due to that, and threaten me because I asked her father (where she later said she took the dog) what happened when she wouldn't answer me (messages BLOCKED). She only admitted that AFTER I told her my building had security cameras.
She is a proven liar in her early twenties, with influential parents to cover anything up. Turns out she even lied about where she worked outside Rover.
I'm out a vet bill and lock changing fee not to mention the intentional emotional mistreatment and stress it caused.
Rover will only cooperate if I get a court order - even though they have all the evidence in writing AND PHOTOS that Cassi lied repeatedly. I had to get my locks changed because this young woman and her family were harassing ME after she took my dog without permission! Turns out she comes from some wealthy political family and I was told they will only respond to an attorney (which costs $6000 retainer).
Unbelievably bad company. ALSO - their money back guarantee has a $250 deductible FYI. Read the fine print. They'll do anything to protect sitters. I just thank God my dog seems to be ok after the horror stories I've read.
Complete rip-off for dog-owners and dog walkers. They take 50% of the money you pay up front. Walkers can show up or no show. There is no accountability after you pay up-front for services. Do not believe their "guarantee" of service, it is total load of crap. The people I'm sure have good intentions of working but zero incentive to follow through because they are paid up front and paid less than they should be for the job since administrators for Rover take all the money. Hire them and pay outside of Rover if you use it at all.
A dog was dropped off sick. I asked rover to help me with the 24/7 support and they were not available, came back to me 2 days after and closed my account saying I should have taken the dog to the vet
The owner asked me not to
The vet didn't want to take the dog without the approval from the owners
My account is now closed and they said:
Please know that we do not take these decisions lightly, and have used a variety of considerations to make this decision. This decision is not subject to appeal. Any upcoming or pending stays you may have will be cancelled, and we will work with those users to assist in finding alternative arrangements.
This is the first and last time I'll use rover.
I booked a sitter for my dog and cat 3 weeks prior to leave on my vacation. The sitter canceled 3 days before.
I reached out to customer service to help me find someone. The first representative was somewhat helpful. She reached out to some more sitters for me, but none of them responded.
I called customer service again, because I was freaking out. I was leaving in 2 days. The second representative was extremely rude and aggressive. She basically told me "sucks for you. Can't help". I would never recommend this app / service to any pet owner.
I've worked with Rover for a couple of years, their app has gotten less and less reliable, and I don't get a response from customer service. They make it incredibly hard just to change the date of a walk. They leave their workers with little to no support. When I contacted the phone line and finally got a human, they told me I was wrong about the app now working in a particular way. I don't appreciate being Gaslit by my employer. I am working with a family run business instead that actually gives a damn about its employees. Don't book with Rover, Google or local service. Absolute trash.
If I needed to rely on a sitter so that I could go to work or a medical procedure-I don't believe I could count on Rover
To date, I have had 4 meet and greets---the first was "too busy", the second "got a better job" the third, did not call back and the fourth "don't know yet"---I have a nice dog--small, active dog--but this is ridiculous--you may need to look into your hired sitters--I need someone I can rely on... Rover is not a business that looks out for your pet, they are not a site that looks out for their owners or sitters. They do not understand the love of animals, They are only interested in collecting fee after fee after fee. They take money from the owners and from the sitters for each and every day. They charge an annual fee that is absolutely unnecessary and ridiculous. When a sitter offers a client a discount Rover considers that fraud. Meanwhile when you called there trust and safety team they apologize for everything and then tell you they can't help you because they are simply a platform that connects people together they have no responsibility to owner or sitter! When you call customer service they once again advise you they cant help but are very apologetic. Lastly when a dog gets sick, while away the insurance the sitters think they have are null and void.
My dog got hurt a few times trying to find the right dog sitter. She had gashes and would come home smelling like smoke even though some sitters don't list that they smoke. They aren't able to verify individuals and so be careful and make sure you do thorough meetups before leaving your pup.
Had a few sitters not show up and my poor pup had to hold it in.
Also, they have horrible horrible customer service. Rude, will blame you, unhelpful, difficult to get a hold of, and they clearly don't train their call center workers. I needed to create a new account separate from my abusive ex and I couldn't due to glitch. They took 5 whole months to return my request. When they did, the email said I was using my ex's account when I was not as I stopped when I separated from my ex. They asked me to email/call them to provide info to complete a new account yet didn't provide a number nor the details needed. After searching (bc they don't even list numbers on their website) I called and I received no help, dismissed, had to do it myself, and was blamed multiple times.
After it all, I didn't want to use the site anymore. You are unable to delete your account as a form of their customer retention scheme so keep that in mind when signing up. You can't even delete your number address or CC info.
Stay away from this company!
I have a one year old Golden Retrevior named Bear, and we signed up for the dog walking service in May 2021. Our dog walker was named Danielle and she provided great service all the way up to this week, when for out of the blue I get this email from Rover. Com saying my services have been cancelled due to non payment for the days of August 16, 18, 20, 23 and 25,2021. Below is the message I received...
"We're writing to let you know that your Rover account has been closed due to a violation of our Terms of Service related to unpaid services. Specifically, the service with Danielle for August 16,18, & 20 (3 days), and 23 & 25 (2 days). Your recurring booking has been cancelled.
While your account is closed at this time, if you would like to continue to use Rover, please respond directly to this message so we can discuss completing payment for services provided. Your account must be paid in full to regain access to your account."
All the best,

This had been paid and sent Rosemarie the screen shot of this payment. She does reply back stating thanks and saw it had been paid. She then wants screen shots for all my payments since May 2021, even though their own payment history website under my account shows those payments were paid by my credit card.
All my dog walking services were cancelled that day. Thankfully I was in town and was able to walk Bear and not out of town on business. They just left me high and dry with no dog walks for Bear even though everyone must pay a week in advance. Of course since I paid a week in advance I'm out the money they charged.
I contacted the customer service department several times, but no one responds and they seem to not want the business.
I did check on the internet after this happened and saw many negative reviews out there, so now after reading all of those, I will not be going back to this service for the safety of Bear.
I joined Rover Tucson 13 years ago and had the same dog sitter. As time went on and I moved part time to Seattle I tried Rover Seattle. The first meet/great I hopped out of my car and stepped in a nest of a human living in their front yard. She was ranked number 1 in Seattle. I met her in her backyard whilst she smoked and nodded off. We left and went to second meet/greet down the street which was perfect in a nice condo. He's been my go to perfect Rover. I'm back for the summer and he's traveling more so looked the past couple of weeks for new Rover. 4 out of 6 would not allow us a meet and greet. I get Covid but I really want to know where I'm leaving my dog before I leave my dog.
I found Ariel looking for a sitter for our pups. We had lots of conversation prior to a pre book visit. As we got to door we asked. We are careful. Ariel is not vaccinated and did not reveal until we asked. Given that COVID can be without symptoms and spread and the people showing up in hospitals are showing up with the newer more deadly and more transmissible I hold BOTH Rover and Ariel responsible for this. We sent her packing.
Anyone who would leave their pet with a total stranger without meeting them, seeing the place they will be hosting from, and checking for multiple reviews as well as repeat clients is taking a terrible risk. A sitter who would take a dog without meeting the dog and owners can't be trusted because they clearly don't care about the dog or if it will fit into their lifestyle or with the other pets they might be caring for. So, Rover is only as good as your search and interview skills.
I have used Rover several times to board my dogs, and generally, the experiences have been good. The sitters have always been good to my dogs and one time my dog actually seemed depressed because he did have his friends to play with when he came home. But here's the problem: for most of the sitters, this is not their full-time gig and sometimes life happens. I had scheduled a sitter for an upcoming trip. Two nights before I was scheduled to leave, I received a text that one of the sitters had been hospitalized and needed to cancel. While I do not place any blame on them as this was no fault of their own, I was left in a huge lurch to try to find another sitter at the last minute as there is no contingency for an issue like this. I tried 3 different sitters - one never responded and another responded several hours later to say that he was booked in spite of the fact that his calendar said that he was available. The third option did respond and said that he would be available. He asked if we should meet first or go ahead with the booking. Since this was an emergency, I said we can forego the meet-up and book. After that, I never hear back from him. I sent a follow-up text the next day to verify that we were still on schedule, but nothing. I became desperate and started calling around to kennels, which were all booked. Fortunately, a local vet took pity on my situation. They had an extra-large kennel normally reserved for very large or multiple dogs available and they let me board him there. Just after I had done this, the sitter who had said he would board my dog said (and I quote) "I won't be able to watch him anymore, the wife said no :/" . Wow. I don't even know what to say to that. Bottom line, for most of these people this is not their primary source of income, so there will be a lack of professionalism. As well, if your booking is canceled, you are left to your own devices. You are better off boarding with a professional so that you know your reservations will be upheld and that your dog is being attended to.
I hired a 20 yr old woman to pet sit and house sit. Her reviews were great. She was an absolute nightmare. Left my dogs in their kennel 16 1/2 hours the first night. I found this out because my ring doorbell monitors all movement. She put them in at 4:30 and didn't come back until 8:30 in the morning. I texted her and she said she had to p/u a friend in Denver and would not be back until morning. Their kennels were soaked with urine. My poor babies! Then she tore the front of my kitchen cabinet off in front of the sink. She thought it was the silverware drawer? We just had them refinished! I wrote out a 2 page instruction for her and she didn't read a damn thing. She didn't feed the pups hardly at all. The canned food was still in the cabinet. The pups were dying of thrist when we go home yesterday, their still gulping down water today. Asked her to water the flower in the baskets outside... their all dead! I am so mad I could spit. First time I used Rover and last. I was dumb enough to pay her cash and a very good tip up front. If I could give no stars I would.
First of all, the site is confusing and challenging to use. Not user-friendly. Secondly I got about a 50% response rate. Sent to seven people heard from four. Two were busy although they hadn't had that on their calendars on the side. Scheduled with one one through the whole rigmarole set up a meet and greet texted her we were on our way. Guess what? She didn't answer the door she didn't answer her text she didn't answer the phone. She called an hour and a half later oops she forgot. Not using her!
Searched and searched again contacted three more one responded much chatting in sued oh yes oh yes the pet sitter was gleeful. Meet and greet tomorrow? Are you flexible on time? Absolutely. The next day dawns. I text her. I text an hour later an hour after that I called twice the voicemail box is full. She's gone- just gone. So, NOT using rover.com I scrambled to find another sitter. Way too much stress.
This morning the second sitter contacted me like nothing had happened-cheery and lets schedule the booking. Clearly she had not bothered to read the texts I sent the day prior, or didint care, or is a nutbar?
Rover.com has no rules for their sitters, no standards or requirements. They take $$ from both parties to be an intermediary. A giant bad business scam. I'm making a complaint to BBB, not that it will help. Rover.com should not be in business.
I had an account for 2+ years. Someone hacked my account and sent mean messages to my clients, to which someone complained. Rover closed my account because of it.
