Most of these reviews represent the pet owners. This one is from the perspective of a sitter. I was a pet sitter for 3 years. Hundreds of 5 star reviews over the 3 years with only 3 negative ones. We had over 500 customers and as hard as you try, you can't please everyone. The one that got us closed down was one where the owner lied about their dogs behaviors. They did not disclose until the day care started that it was an escape artist. I stipulate this on my site since we live on acreage and it's often hard to see what the dog is doing when they're playing out in a pasture. We are fenced. They said she wouldn't dig under or jump over. They also said she was extemely friendly and never aggressive toward people. Long story short, she was not friendly and she did dig. She wouldn't come inside. I tried to leash her and she tried to bite me. While going for help, she dug out. Although she was okay, she was hurt as a result of her escape. We chased her for hours, literally. If we got close she snarled and growled and snapped. I get that she was probably scared but this is not a friendly dog. For this incident, Rover shuts off our account. So, for all the pet owners who think they don't close accouns quickly enough, I feel like they didn't investigate this at all and penalized us for something beyond our control. The owner apologied to us. Stated it wasn't our fault. They didn't know their dog would act that way. We have no prior incidents or write ups. But we still got shut down and lost a serious source of income. Rover is bad on both sides and only think about their bottom line. There are so many sitters and owners, they aren't the least bit concerened with losing any.

My dog got sick while spending a weekend with one of their sitters; however, after 3 weeks of stress/blood diarrhea/vomit and $3k in vet bills, Rover claims there's no proof it was their/the sitter's fault b/c they want me to prove a negative. Luckily for me, the sitter confirmed via text he may have eaten something and the vomiting started on the last day of his stay + my dog had just been to a healthy annual physical 2 days prior to going to the sitter.

I'm now taking them to small claims court on the grounds of 'bad faith insurance', a pain in the butt all the way around but confident I will win. Encourage anyone dealing with this to do so too. In other good, news, my dog is now back to healthy and normal

No thanks

I used rover as a sitter and the amount taken from our checks are insane. They should require house owners to get a background check as well. I was hired by a nut and asked to leave her house in the middle of the night just so she could save money. Another had a filthy house, ugh smh.

I will never use Rover again because my dog eye got infected while under the sitters care. I had to take my dog to the vet due to red, swelling, and itchy eye. The vet ran tests and said that his eye was injured due to something hit his eye or another dog may have scratched him. The sitters do have a small dog so I do believe their dog more than likely scratch my dog eye and were scared to admit it to me when I asked them about it. If I was a pet owner I wouldn't use this app/service. Kick out the money and have professionals keep your pets!

Total Scam
December 6, 2021

I was in Pasco, WA for a several month job contract. I hired Kaylee to walk my dogs Monday through Friday. I suspected she didn't show 2 days the first week and confirmed that she was not showing up -- even though she checked in online and sent me photos! She played dumb and Rover.com customer service was indifferent. And to get a refund, Kaylee would have to approve it! What a scam! They should be shut down!

No show!
December 4, 2021

I set up for a dog boarding through the app. The sitter sent her phone number and we communicated through to set up the time for me to drop off. It was for Thanksgiving day for one night. She told me if I paid her directly, her fee was $10 cheaper. I should up at her house at the agreed time. Her dog approached my car and stood up on the door of the car, looking in. Scratched up the door. I tried calling her several times and blew the horn for at least 15 min. She never answered the phone or came to the door. I did not get out because I was afraid of what her dog may do. I left and was stuck without a sitter. She never calked or contacted me to explain what happened. Never again will I use this service. Her name is Jodi B from Rock Hill, SC

There is a reason Rover.com has just over a one star rating! I recently booked a stay for my pet for a week. When I booked, the website popped up one page and immediately another covering the first. I thought I was booking with the one on top. Evidently, both went through. I did not discover that two had been booked until I was charged for both. They only refunded a portion the duplicate booking. There is no excuse for their computer program not to flag a booking for the same dog on the same days, with two sitters. This mix-up was the fault of the Rover booking system, and customer service took no responsibility. I'm now working with my credit card company, but I may be out almost $200 if that doesn't work due to their booking system. Do not use this service!

I had a beautiful anniversary gift she was Chihuahua puto mix. On 4th of July 2021 my doggie was killed by a dog that I was watching supposedly good with other dogs apparently not, the grabbed my dog like if it was a toy and the owners didn't do anything to help pay for the death of my dog emergency hospital. I told Rover they were kind to give me a refund for the hospital and was kind to give me a refund for a new puppy that was the only good thing they did. But sad to say that dog owner didn't get no punishment from rover she got away with it :(. . Later on speaking to rover safety guy was so rude and terrible and threatened to take my dogs away from home. All because I spoke the truth and he knows it's true and he decided to cancel my account. But hey what it is right.

They suck.

Sitter did not show up at my house to take care of my dogs, but gave a detailed lie about it. This seems to happen often with Rover and it's hard to get in contact with them.

Long story short, Rover is false advertising by luring you in with language like "they hire only 20% of applicants" and their stupid Guarantee that means nothing. People, I never saw my purebred declawed Persian cat ever again. They are saying so far they won't do anything and I didn't even get a refund! Long story: The sitter knew I was selling my house the next day, moving 8 hours away after the boarding stay, and in a very stressful time. I hurriedly dropped my cats off for an originally 2 nights, then added another night so 3 nights stay. 1 of my DECLAWED (by previous owner) Persian cats, the one I'm most bonded to and have had for 6 years, was never returned to me. I was told he "slipped out the door" and ran into the rural woods, yet when we searched for him and called, it was dead silence. We went back up there a few days later (she never even looked for him) and still silence and we searched everywhere and walked what had to be for miles on the giant wooded property. Was he sold, given away, or was the story true at all? We'll never know. My holidays are ruined and the grief is staggering. I never even got to pet him or look at him one last time. So day after Thanksgiving (today) we wanted to go back up there one last time with traps and tuna and items that smell like him and us. The sitter said to never contact her again and if she ever sees us on the property she's calling the police. This even more strongly makes me think she either for sure sold my tiny 8 pound declawed Persian cat, or she's simply a cruel sociopath that doesn't care if he starves and dies in the cold woods. I called the police and they said unfortunately I have no rights to look for him if she won't let me. Rover could care less. I'm getting with a lawyer who's gotten settlements from Rover before and am starting that process. I'm also going to the local news and will make YouTube videos spreading the word. JUSTICE FOR LITTLE FLUFFY. MAMA IS SO SORRY. Baby Fluffy trusted his mama and by using Rover, I unknowingly sent him to his doom.

Unqualified pet sitters
November 24, 2021

Rover is only the platform which storing a database of registered pet sitters who passed Rover background check. The background check is used to be free of charge, was simple and untrustworthy. Regardless that they have enhanced the quality of the background check (blue and yellow badges), it is not 100% guaranteed that your pets will be safe when being with the pet sitters.
A person who has 0 exp can claim that she has 10 exp in pet care on their Rover page. It is time to consider pet sitter as a job position, interview them via call, house visiting during the interview, has a physical offices where people can go asking for help if sonething bad happened during the stay, etc. Without these, Rover is only a platform gathering untrusted people who wants to gain some money from pet sitting services.

I went through the process of finding a dog sitter for my 2 dogs for the week of Thanksgiving, kept texting sitter to set up the meet and greet, then after 2 days sitter texts and says she book another client and now cant watch my dogs. Spent a whole week setting this up for what? NOTHING
Now 5 days til my trip and no one to watch my dogs. This site is not worth the trouble and time it takes to find someone reliable and honest and gives a damm to take care of my dogs that mean the world to us. Wont be using Rover as its a complete waste of time and get nothing for the end results.
Also Rover wants to charge Holiday Rates for the whole week before thanksgiving when other sites only charges holiday rates day before, holiday and the day after.

Don't judge rover
November 5, 2021

I have not had any issues with the service I have received from Rover.com. Of course I am particular of who takes care of my boy. So I do a meet and greet with them, one to see what they are like and two to see how he reacts to them. I have only met one that I did not feel comfortable with. I now have an amazing young lady whom my dog, Zacchaeus is in love with. She is absolutely the best one Rover could hire.
Rover.com has always charged what was expected and if a cancellation was done they immediately refunded money back to my card.

I hired a Rover sitter for my house and dogs for a weekend. They trashed my home, causing damage and hours of cleaning. I reported it to Rover and filled out all of the required paperwork, nothing was done. Not even a phone call to me. Hire Rover at your OWN RISK! I will never allow someone in my home from any service again. Towels ruined, dishes broken, dishwasher broken, hours of cleaning!

Abandoned
October 18, 2021

Tayler sure talked a good game. After three days of watching her leave my dog for hours, not clean up after my dog or herself. I texted her and asked her to not have her boyfriend at the house and clean up after herself and turn off the lights. She then decided to abandon my animals and send me a text explaining that she was uncomfortable being watched on camera. Of course she was, she is lazy and irresponsible. Do not use this service and do not hire this girl. I am out of the country and I'll have to cut my vacation short and book a flight home as soon as possible.

Horrible. Don't use Rover
September 28, 2021

I hired a pet sitter through Rover. She was hired to stay in my house for the weekend and care for my cat and dog. She stopped by the house every 5 to 7 hours for 15 minutes. She lied when I was texting her about her being hired to stay at the house. We have ring surveillance cameras so I have record of every time that she was there and how long she stayed. I got home from my weekend away and my rugs were soaked in urine. I contacted the sitter and she told me to get a grip. I contacted Rover and they said it's up to me to deal with Yazmine, the pet sitter. So I have disputed charges on my credit card and I am doing everything I can to warn everyone about rover. Do not use them.

Lost dog
September 26, 2021

Your dog sitter in SC lost a dog or at least claims to have lost it. Find the dog and fire this sitter and make a public statement. No one trust this company until something is done with the situation in SC Involving Angela Clark's dog. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY, they don't care who they hire. Fire Samantha R. Who claims to have lost the dog.
