We took a small trip and dropped our dog off with a Rover pet sitter named Julie from Woburn, MA. She basically let her very young daughter care for our pet. They let our dog out into their nasty backyard and she came back to us loaded with ticks. Get someone you know and trust to watch your dogs. I can't speak for all the sitters but I wished I investigated more as you can't run a pet sitting service just because you like pets.
DO NOT RELY UPON ON THIS WEBSITE. The sitters can cancel anytime. Other sitters will not answer. Customer service and the so-called emergency line are good for nothing.
My experience is HORRIBLE..
Contact a five star dog sitter it took her 2 weeks to get in contact saying she was sorting out her schedule? So we replied and guess what she did not respond Wow and we're going to I trust our dog with a person that can't even communicate? Wow and she is 5 start rated on Rover, I think this site is to make a $ and they don't care, if they did someone from Rover would have contacted us to see if all was well with the sitter we cummunicated with?! Y'a sure book a sitter and take risk that they can't watch dog at last minute NO Thanks
I would put 0 as rating if I could
I REACHED OUT SEVERAL TIMES FOR HELP AND NO ONE WAS ABLE TO ASSIST. WHEN I CALLED THE HELP LINE THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS OBNOXIOUS! VERY POOR FIRST IMPRESSION!
I am a Rover sitter, and have been for about a year. I absolutely LOVE animals, and this part-time gig became full time, since I truly enjoy being around dogs more than people. I would never neglect an animal or mistreat them in any way. They sleep with me while I board them, and get lots of love, attention, walks and treats! I prefer to do a meet and greet prior to boarding, but some owners don't care to, which is fine with me too. But as a pet owner myself, I would NEVER leave my precious baby with a complete stranger without at least meeting them and getting some sort of gut feeling from them.
Nor would I cancel last minute because I know how much of a bind it could put someone in when they have to travel. I honestly don't understand how people can be so inconsiderate. Another reason why I love animals more...
I have had my share of dishonest owners telling me how well-behaved and housebroken their dog is. Only to find out their dog pees everywhere, and chews everything in sight. Not to mention the aggression some of their 'friendly' dogs have towards other dogs. I am well aware of what can happen when animals are concerned, and limit myself to not take in more than 2 at a time, maybe 3 if they are repeat clients. Rover is just an app that puts people in contact with each other. Do your due diligence! Don't have some false sense of security with sitters unless you do your homework. Rover does take 15% of fees, but as a sitter, I feel safer going through the app, so I don't mind. Don't let the actions of a few bad people take away from the great resource Rover is!
I expected that the "nightly rate" was pretty straightforward and what I would be charged. There is fine print that specifically lists "See Additional Services & Rates
Pick-up & drop-off, bathing / grooming" I assumed that since I wasn't expecting pick up/dropoff or grooming, that these charges wouldn't apply to me. I was shocked to get an invoice for over double the list price because I have an additional 2 cats that need a can of food opened. I'm not going to pay someone and additional $60 a day to open a can of food. This is beyond overpriced, and I won't be using them.
I will never use Rover.com. In need of a housepet sitter I took a friends referral for Nikki on Rover. She answered my inquiry immediately, but then ghosted me. Wondering if we got our lines crossed somehow I tried to contact her again, she answered, we started a conversation (via text) and then she ghosted me and left me hanging. If she can not complete a simple and short conversation I can not trust that she can complete the service I am requesting her to do. I contacted two other pet sitters and, although both of their profiles state that they will respond within minutes... still nothing. If these people can not be responsable enough to respond, or complete a (started) conversation, I can certainly not trust them with my home, and certainly not with my pets.
Really awful site for service. I sent out 8 requests for dog boarding and 4 said they did not update their calendar that they were unavailable. Three did not respond at all. One responded, I booked and then they canceled two days before. I will never use these jokers again.
After several attempts to actually speak to the "supposed" sitters and texting them over 8 times all I got was No Answer. Just wanted to confirm my reservation. Have a greet and meet because without that I refused to leave my baby in not trustworthy folks. If not able to answer me. For sure not able to care for my baby. My dog is supremely important. She is an ESA. WILL NEVER USE THOSE PUBLICIZED ADDS. Beware before dropping off your doggie. God bless our Dogs. A very concerned dog parent.
My dog stayed for 4days with a dog sitter that rover.com provides. As soon as i got my dog, i found something wrong with her. She was shivering and trembling with fear. When i closely looked at her, i got shocked. Her right eye was filled with blood. I visited a vet, and he says, it is hyposphagma (Subconjunctival bleeding) that is only caused by external attack or choking. So, i reported about this issue to Rover.com, and it says i have to pay $250 to start claiming.
My dog was not safe there, and I almost feel the urge to report the dog sitter for dog abuse, but there is no CCTV or no evidence or no witness.
Rover is not customer service oriented at all and the sitters take advantage of it. I was trying to book one sitter to house sit and she flipped a $#*! when I asked her for proof of covid vaccination for house sitters (per Rover community recommendations). All she had to say was she wasn't comfortable sharing it, but she was immediately offended and called me distrusting, dramatic, etc. She cancelled my booking right away. Very unprofessional and kind of crazy. I had to block her after trolling her a bit. Since Rover doesn't let me do anything about such a terrible experience with one of their sitters, I thought I'd write about it here.
I've been burned twice by Rover.com with their cancellation policy and would not recommend their service to anyone. Rover claims it's the sitter who controls the cancellation policy but when you cancel the booking and request a refund, you're not likely to get a refund at all or only half of one. The sitter claims it's Rover who controls the cancellations and refunds, so neither the sitter or Rover have a straight answer.
**Update**
I rolled up my carpet to take it to the dry cleaners and noticed my floor was damage. I notified Rover of the property damage and Rover has since denied my claim. "After reviewing the information provided, the claim has been determined to not be eligible for reimbursement." Not sure how damage to my physical property (supposedly covered my Rover) is not eligible for reimbursement. Absolutely the worst experience.
I booked Kaylea Perez in Beaverton, Oregon via Rover because her profile indicated she was a veterinary assistant. It turned out to be the worst experience. Communication started off well, It slowly weaned to where I didn't hear from her toward the last day of my trip. Upon returning from my trip, I immediately noticed my Xbox Series X was missing and a controller. In addition, my apartment smelled like cigars, my dogs water bowl was bone dry and I had a large stain on my carpet. Kaylea was not apologetic or remorseful. I reached out to Rover who's policy does not cover stolen property. Kaylea had two implausible excuses that maybe someone snuck in while she was sleeping and stole my electronics. Only after I contacted the police to file a theft report did she admit to having someone over without my permission or knowledge. In fact she didn't even provide this individuals last name to the police. More concerned if she would be in trouble which would ruin her chances of becoming a veterinarian, Kaylea chose to simply say "I don't have it". Rovers policy and Kaylea not taking responsibility resulted in significant loss. I am concerned how my dog was treated while away based on her actions or lack thereof. I would not recommend this service.
My regular pet sitter couldn't watch my golden doodle. Kathy from Seaford had 101 five star reviews. So I tried Rover. She had concealed, 7-8 dogs. It was winter and freezing out. She only left them in her kitchen or outside. But people's dogs were also put in her freezing cold garage! They had to be in cages!. She had no warm and fuzzy towards the dogs. This was about making money only. I had already paid for 12 days but had to have my Goddaughter come pick him up from Brooklyn to get him out of there. When she got there, she had thrown his stuff out on the ground and was just standing at the door and coldly handed him off. My Goddaughter then heard all the barking from the freezing garage. My sweet therapy golden doodle fled the house literally! Don't use her if you love your dog and expect a nice home environment. Also, Rover then asks you for a review directly to them. My guess is they kill the bad reviews to keep feeding their pockets.
I used the service just for an overnight visit came back my dog was unattended shivering tied to the back patio where he never is ' cause he's a short-haired Tiny terrier it was the dead of winter overnight its a miracle my dog didn't die and it looked like the person had tied him there the night before and never come back there was no food no water no shelter I don't know why this person just didn't leave him in the house I'm assuming it's because he didn't wanna clean up poop If he had no intention of walking my dog and of course rover took no responsibility for this but I'm just so thankful my dog was alive don't ever use this company ever ever ever ever I cannot say enough never ever ever ever
PS they made me put one star or they won't submit the review but this company does not deserve even one star
I used Rover just once and my furbaby passed away. The sitter said my dog was perfectly fine, yet she passed away not long after the sitter left. My dog was elderly and I didn't want to think anything bad about the sitter, but then I saw what was left behind. The sitter took many liberties in my home like going through my bathroom drawers and burning a candle all the way through. She turned my Ring camera so it would face the wall, this camera faced the common area where my dog slept. Rover closed the case stating that their investigation concluded that my dog's death was unpreventable. They will not cover the expansive vet bill that I had to pay just for a vet to tell me my dog had passed away.
I have been a sitter for over 5 years and I can honestly say that the benefit of having an account with them continues to deteriorate. It takes over a week to get paid on your services even if your satisfaction ratings are flawless, the website has more than it's fair share of clumsy obstacles, support is minimal and scam artists are even a problem. Use it to establish your own clientele base if your goal is to be independent but I would not expect this experience to be satisfying.
My dog gets really excited to go see Kerry and her dog and play tug-of-war in the yard or roam around the house! It is his home away from home. I, for my part, appreciate the care and effort that Kerry puts into managing our dog while I am at work. It's a win-win situation. And the pics are nice, too.
