Very disappointed
June 21, 2022

I was looking for a cat sitter and sent requests to quite a few sitters. Some sitters did not respond while others took over 2 days to respond. I had to enter a credit card information before I created a request. Each request to a sitter would saved but I could not delete or cancel it. The calculation of cost was very confusing as well and I was lured by prices as low as $10. Rover.com adds a fee for their service in your bill. Each sitter can also have a "holiday" rate which will surge certain charges. You will have to look carefully at the dates they are available. I had to end up getting a relative to cat sit for me instead. I am very disappointed with Rover.com

I never got my pet watched by this company. I am a vet tech at an ER in northern virginia. We had a dog present as a hit by car- a rover pet sitter was watching the pet and accidents happened and immediately the pet sitter took the pet in for medical care. They contacted rover once in our building to find the owner's phone number and contact info so our doctors could explain this grave situation.

ROVER CORPORATE REFUSED TO SUPPLY THE PET SITTER THE OWNERS PHONE NUMBER TO NOTIFY THEM IN A TIMELY WAY OF THIS EMERGENCY.

Our facility had to use this pet's microchip to contact the owners to let them know their dog had passed. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a pet sitting company.

Rover advertises themselves as providing a guarantee. Our cat sitter caused several thousand dollars worth of water damage in our house, and it's all being covered by our home owner's insurance. We are paying the full deductible. One of the major reasons we choose to use Rover is their guarantee, precisly so that issues like this would be covered by them and not our insurance. But their guarantee is completely worthless.

Booked a sitter to home sit my dog. Met with her twice before our scheduled departure and were suppose to meet up again 5 days before our flight. A week before said meeting I contacted the sitter again asking to reschedule the time of our meeting. She never replied back. After a week of waiting I decided I had enough and canceled my booking with her. She contacted me 2 days after canceling the booking with some lame excuse about hurting her hand. Told her that since she did not reply my messages I canceled our booking. The company was kind enough to give me full refund and 20% discount if I still book with them gor my upcoming trip. They went as far as posting in my name to help find another sitter. This would have been great if their sitters were as professional as they claim to be. Next sitter I contacted, had to reschedule our first appointment. Fine. We then rescheduled for Saturday, 5 days before our trip, for 11:00 am. It is now 12:30 pm. The guy did not even bother contacting me, saying he'll be late. A complete no show.
Just stay away if you care about your pets.

Our dog has now been viciously attacked TWICE while sitting dogs on Rover... only to find out that the dog doing the attacking had a few different sitters on Rover. Hmmmm why didn't you go back to your previous sitter? They lie and say they had issues with the sitter, but it makes me wonder now if it was really an issue with the dog. IF we as sitters put notes that a dog is aggressive why does Rover not allow all of us to see it? I have no problem watching a dog with aggressive tendencies if I'm aware up front and prepared to keep the other dogs in my care safe. It makes NO sense to me if there's an aggressive dog behavior being documented by one sitter it should be SHARABLE to ALL sitters. Instead by not allowing us to know this or see this behavior on a meet and greet, we are putting our dog's life at risk. Not to mention the guarantee is a friggin joke. If you turn in a claim they kick you off Rover (even though it's not your fault if a dog with an aggressive streak starts off playing and all is cool and out of the blue they attack a dog).

What do you do when a dog gives absolutely NO signs of being aggressive, is playing and then tries to rip your dogs throat apart? Our dog is submissive and loves everyone. He's big and playful and sweet and we've now had two situations which will lead us to CLOSE our account. I've spent over 1700 in vet bills this year only to make a few pennies more than that.

Rover acts like a dog attack is the sitter's fault? I've had and watched dogs for over 30 years and I can guarantee I don't do stupid $#*! and am always watching the dogs in my care.

Then of course there's the ones that come in and ruin every piece of carpeting you have even though they are "house trained" and "have never done that before"... Yeah right... SHARE the information with all sitters regarding dogs in our care.

I booked using the app to have a sitter feed my cat once a day while I was out of town. This was a very simple request with only needing a drop in visit for a total of 3 days, once a day. Sitter asked if she could change times that I had originally set up and I said yes times are flexible. That was over a week and a half ago, my credit card was charged. I then got nervous as I had no idea how to get a key to the sitter. I sent her several messages all of which went in answered. I then called but the call would not go through. I sent another text and said I was going to cancel if I do not hear from her in an hour, of course no response. I did end up cancelling and was issued a refund but my bigger concern is that they would have a sitter who is so irresponsible working for them.

Extremely Poor Service
June 14, 2022

We were working with a local pet sitter, paid up front as required and the person flaked the day before she committed to take care of our dogs. Apparently, any chump can list themselves as a pet sitter on this site.

Sitter sent non-stop text messages and videos at midnight, 4pm, off hours with pictures in my apartment. She decided to use my apartment as a crash pad. Did not feed at the right hours. When I kicked her out she left garlic in my cat's bowl. Tried to kill my cat. Reported her to Animal Cruelty. There's a place in hell for her.

Terrible customer service
June 11, 2022

We were uncomfortable with our sitter and called into customer support to explore other options. We were put on hold thinking our service rep was finding alternative solutions or talking to her supervisor. When she came back, she informed us that she had cancelled our reservation, without our knowledge, but won't be able to give a full refund as that's "up to the sitter." We were kept in the dark and the service rep did not obtain our approval to just toss our money away. Now we're out a couple hundred and they claim that "there's nothing they can do" even though this is complete inadequacy and poor customer service by every standard on the part of Rover's customer support team. The team needs serious communication lessons. Beware, they will just take your money and run.

Rover is a terrible business as our son and daughter-in-law had them watch their dogs while the family was in Orlando over Thanksgiving. Rover's employee, Jeremy allowed other individuals into the home and them robbed them blind! They stole thousands of dollars of clothing and other personal property and wouldn't take accountability for ANYTHING!

This business should be shut down as they are a bunch of crooks!

I'm well involved in the Rover community as a Sitter & Owner. It's pretty obvious how similar all these reviews are, and come off as very angry-fueled comments for things that would not happen in a million years. Sitters are background checked, and kindly refer to app reviews for accurate REAL customer experiences. All these reviews are just salty paid for by Rover competitors. Notice how they're all Owners and not a Sitters giving their input? Move on. Rover is great and a life saver for most.

My daughter and I wasted 35 dollars on our background checks. We never got any business except for one. I wasted my time for a dog walk the dog was to aggressive. Even though the owners said it was a sweet dog. Had to leave with out walking the dog I received no compensation for my time.

They hire scammers
May 30, 2022

This site should be shut down. I tried to reach out to one of their walkers Jessica K from Columbia MD and she responded with a rude message saying she can tell me up front that summer walks would be less than 15 minutes while I paid full price. When I tried to inquire if I would get a refund from her if she didn't fullfill the full walk I paid for she said we were not a good match, I responded unbelievable and she said she was reporting me to be blocked from services from Rover which she was successful with. She did me a favor as this whole site sounds like a scam which seems to employ lazy fradduders who want to fraud unsuspecting dog lovers. The moment I questioned it she had me blocked. Rover didn't even look at my side (paying client) of the story. So glad I never used them.

I will never use this company again. I found a sitter on rover and set up a time to meet them to introduce her and my dog. The meeting was right before I was supposed to leave on a trip. The sitter never showed up and was unreachable through the app and by the company through her personal number. The company offered me $20 rover credit. I requested for the company to split the difference for the new sitter because it was $120 more expensive. They declined my request. The new sitter was great but was sick and will be missing a visit. I had to inconvenience family that don't live near me to help my dog. This company is very poor and does not care for their customers. Very unreliable and a company that shoulders responsibility by calling their employees independent contractors. They will not help fix a problem caused by their employees.

I booked who I thought seemed like a reliable sitter and paid for a week long stay at my house to watch my two dogs. The sitter was responsive up front and accepted payment. A few weeks before my trip I tried to get in touch for her to do a meet and greet and no response. I tried messaging again and no response. I tried called and no response. I was getting frantic knowing my vacation is near and didn't want to be stuck with no sitter, so I had to cancel and find someone I know personally. It's pretty frustrating there is such a lack of accountability with sitters on this site. I will not use Rover again.

Avoid this website
May 25, 2022

I tried to contact someone on their website and I had very bad experience. People offering dog service on that website are not reliable and not truthowrthy. Stay away from that website if you need a good dog walker.

They do not protect their sitters at all. If you think they care at all you are very mistaken, they care nothing about their sitters

I had a HORRIBLE experience where I came home to find my dog covered in his own pee, poop, and vomit. I called Rover to complain and they said they would give me a $50 refund and never did. I didn't see any money back and the sitter got to keep the entirety of what I paid for her to "stay at my house" even though she clearly did not do anything to keep our dog safe or healthy.

No Accountability
May 11, 2022

Rover charges a fee for their service, which is, in reality, non-existent. They do not vet the sitters. They do not train the sitters. They do not provide the sitters with policies to follow. I've had a few great sitters on Rover, but not because of Rover. And, I've had MANY terrible sitters - people who "check-in" for a session twenty, thirty minutes (even an hour) before they arrive, and spend less than 5 minutes with the animal while being paid for half an hour. If you call Rover, you learn that another thing they do not provide is customer service. Rover will tell you to take any issues up with the sitter, as their sitters are independent contractors. Rover thereby disclaims all responsibility for ensuring you actually get what you pay for. It's a horrible company.

A NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR SITS FOR ROVER. THESE PEOLPE HAVE TWO DOGS OF THEIR OWN. BOTH OF THEIR DOGS HAVE BEEN RUN OVER BUT LIVED. ONE HAS BEEN RUN OVER TWICE. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH ROVER AND THESE SITTERS. AS THEY OPERATE LIKE AIR BB UNDER THE RADAR.
LAST YEAR DURING THE SUMMER HEAT A PA DOG WARDEN AND THE STATE POLICE HAD TO ADVISE THEM THEY WERE BREAKING THE LAW. THE DOGS WERE OUTSIDE IN THE HEAT FOR HOURS AND DAYS ON END. THE LAWS STATE DOGS CANT BE OUTSIDE FOR LONG PERIODS WITH A TEMP 90 DEGRESS OR OVER AND 32 DEGREES AND BELOW. THOSE ANIMALS SUFFERED AT THE HAND OF THESE IDIOTS AND WERE FINALLY STRAIGHTENED OUT.

HOW CAN ROVER ALLOW THAT? THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTACT SOMEONE AT ROVER WHO CARES. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR THE SITTERS ACTIONS. WITH ALL THIS THEY STILL ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE. WE ARE PURSUING A PRIVATE ENFOREMENT OF THE ZONING LAWS IN CRIMINAL COURT..
