Rentalcars.com charged me $154 to book a compact car in advance. The car rental agency then charged me an additional $175 in taxes/fees when I picked up the car (plus a $200 security deposit, which was expected, and which I got back at the time of return).

While Rentalcars.com's fine print mentioned there'd be taxes/fees at the time of pickup, nowhere does it list estimated costs of all those taxes/fees, nor does it say "Beware! All of these taxes/fees may add up to more than the price of your rental!" In the end, their total sum relative to the price of the car itself was actually absurd.

Basically, Rentalcar.com's website presents a falsely low rental price to suckers like me by removing the bulk of the costs and hiding them in their fine print (without ever providing you with the actual estimated cost of taxes/fees before booking). That's textbook shadiness. I will not be booking through Rentalcars.com again, and I'd advise you not to either!

Every time I travel overseas I use the same company but this time I thought I would try RentalCars.com. I was thrilled when I found the great rate they offered. As is often found in real life SOME THINGS ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Their paperwork said we could opt to add insurance to our rental. I even made a telephone call to the company to verify this information. They were not able to find out and said they could not reach anyone in Shanon to confirm. I decided that since I had it in writing it must be true. When we arrived at the Shanon airport in Ireland, feeling rather travel weary and exhausted, we were informed by the car pick-up desk that insurance was not an option. It was required. What could we do at that point? My family was tired and staring at me... We had to have a car and the desk had the keys. The only choice was to pay the insurance which cost more than the original car rental. I will NEVER rent from this company again and I will do what I can to inform others that they need to be prepared to pay twice what they expect. My advice is to rent from a more reliable company.

I booked online, in the US, comparing prices and went for their price. The price was in dollars
Like all the other companies. When I got the bill the price was multiplied by 1.459 saying they were converting pounds to dollars. A completely misleading site. I will challenge the charge with my credit card company.

Booked the car for 1329USD, nowhere I selected or was warned that it is prepaid. Got charged right away in British pounds, which came up to 1586USD on my card. Scam, don't use them!

I went on a trip to Chile for a month and prior to my departure I booked a reservation with Rentalcars.com. Prior to my departure I called once again to confirm the amount and was
Told that the only change in price would be if the peso had a change in value but it would be only a couple of dollars. When I got there, they wanted to charge me $388.00 more
For insurance. I declined the car and was still charge full price after they promised only
To be charge $72.00. This company is a total scam.

Rentalcars.com are cheats. The slightly lower prices are a tease. The modus operandi is to hook you with a lower price. When booking you look at all the options available and never question the fine print because one simply assumes the details they supply are enough to decide to rent.
What happens when you get to the car rental agency is the opposite of good customer service.
I booked through rentalcars.com and the car provider was Alamo.
We were scheduled to pick up the car at 9:30 am but received the car at 12:03 as they could not find the correct vehicle.
The manager of the Alamo kiosk at Brussels attended to me. So let's not assume it was a new intern.
The first point he brought was to purchase insurance and I refused because my credit card provides the needful. He said that was between me and my credit card company.
He put a liability of Euros ******* against my name and held me liable for loss, damage etc.
He also put an hold of Euros 1500 on my credit card.
All this to pressure me to buy insurance.
When I refused, this man pulled the limitations clause and said the the policy of rental cars.com allowed only 550 km for my 5 days.
After that it was Euro 0.18/km.
Nothing could be done.
I could refuse the car and forfeit $284.00.
Or accept the hold and the liability of Euros *******.
And pay 18 cents extra per km
Now, Rental cars is not accepting responsibility nor is Alamo.
I found out that the milage is 150 km and the surcharge is Euros 0.12.
Rental cars replies each mail through a different person and their replies do not have. Contact telephone number.
They are aggressive and constantly change their version.
Never again. Zero out of 5.

Do not use this company. Hire car was covered in advertising, staff were 40 minutes late at airport for return, we had a flight to get on. Deposit still not returned after 34 days, still waiting. Staff very incompetent, would never use this company again.

I booked a rental car through Rentalcars.com for 3 weeks in Italy. I had to prepay 30 days in advance for the whole amount. Luckily I had an issue with the Credit card I had given them for the deposit so they when I got on line to prepay I noticed a post on Tripadvisor that they where not a good rental car company. So I cancelled my reservation... and my $80 depsoit turned into an $80 Cancellation fe EVEN THOUGH it says VERY clearly on the website FREE CANCELLATION.
My husband is a lawyer and wants to file a class action suit against Rentalcars.com... looks like lots of people have been scammed!

I booked a car the day it was to be collection and had to cancel 30min after the booking. They deducted a booking fee and full rental off my CC. This is against the consumer act! There is no mention in their terms and conditions about same day booking cancellations. We contacted their call centre who was not helpful at all we then contact there online chat who was just as rude, i requested that they send me proof of me agreeing to pay in full on a same day booking with cancellation 30min after booking,

I rented a car for week in St Thomas, USVI through Rentalcars.com with Budget, prepaying $289. The Budget car and service was fine, however only $234 was credited, a discrepancy of $55. It's difficult to contact Rentalcars.com- email forms and phone calls. The end result after much time wasted waiting, was that I am out the $55. They say no service fees are charged, but they clearly are not remitting the full prepaid amount to the actual car rental company. Stay away from this outfit!

Complete Rip-off
April 27, 2016

Rentalcars.com is a complete rip-off. I booked an Avis rental car through them for a Costa Rica trip. I followed all the requirements including having a letter from my bank confirming that I had rental car insurance coverage with my credit card. When I arrived, Avis wouldn't accept the letter saying that since I booked through a 3rd party, I had to pay for their coverage (an additional $152 for the week).

The rental was fine and I got it dropped off; Avis handed me a receipt and said everything was fine. When I got home, I went through my bank statement and saw that Avis had also charged me for the car ( I was charged by Rentalcars.com when I booked online). I corresponded with Rentalcars.com about both the over-charge and the double charge. They said they could help with insurance issue, because I signed the Avis rental agreement (what else was I supposed to do?). It's now been over 2 months and they won't address the double charge. I had to file a dispute with my bank. I'll never use these guys again.

I rented a car for a month and then returned it after one day because I found a car several classes higher for 500 dollars less! But what I didn't know is, they won't return ONE penny of my month long rental. SO I ended up renting a car from them for ONE DAY for 1350 USD!

They claim their policy is online and clear but I couldn't find it. They sent it to me. If you return your car before the deadline you give them they don't return ANY MONEY. HORRIBLE COMPANY! They over charge then KEEP your money. SCAM. I hope they go broke!

(1) My reservation was not honored. (2) This company would not refund my prepaid charge. (3) Their customer service is horrible. (4) This company tried to charge me for insurance on a car I never received (see #1) and turned getting a refund into a nightmare of rude customer service reps, hang-ups, long waits on hold, and numerous transfers. Never use this company. They are not reliable and will steal your money by saying the charges are non-refundable, even though you didn't get the product.

Total SCAM - BEWARE
March 16, 2016

We booked a rental car through this website, came at the airport, the rental agency didn't have a car in the size we booked and didn't want to give an upgrade or so. We had to book at the rental agency and did not receive our money back. Completely unreliable!

They are very able to explain in a way that is ambiguous and hard to detect what you will be really charged. Maybe this is legal, but people are induced to believe that they will pay less than the real
