I was shocked to discover a $119.88 charge from QR Code Generator on May 13,2025, for a subscription I had no idea I was signed up for. Even worse, I later found out they had charged me the same amount on May 13,2024 — without any prior notification or reminder. What makes this situation absurd is that I created a free account with them in December 2024. Why would I do that if I already had a paid plan? It makes no sense and clearly shows I was unaware of the original subscription. I contacted their support immediately and, after some back-and-forth, they basically told me they wouldn't help further because I had opened a PayPal dispute (which I only did because they didn't respond in time). Their customer service response was cold, dismissive, and made no real effort to investigate how this could have happened. This is not how a reputable company should treat customers — especially when dealing with unrecognized or potentially accidental subscriptions. I strongly advise others to double-check for any hidden or auto-renewed charges and be cautious before trusting this platform.
I would give a 0 star if I could. I originally used QR Code Generator because I believed the QR codes were free. I created one for my small dog spa business and had it printed on my trailer by a vinyl company. The day before my vinyl install, I was informed by the company that my QR code had stopped working. I later learned this was due to an unexpected 14-day trial expiration, which was not clearly disclosed upfront. In a panic to avoid wasting marketing materials, I paid for what I believed was a monthly plan at 9.99. I even wrote on the invoice that I was only signing up for one month. However, I was charged 129.47 for a full year, which I never agreed to. This was my business's launch period, and I was already struggling financially—I couldn't even pay my Bank of America bill for the first time ever this past month. I acted in good faith just to keep my business going. I asked several times for a refund because the billing was misleading, the pricing unclear, and the service was not what I intended to buy. The customer support was exactly what you expect a German to act like.
Nothing about this company's services are upfront. This was my first experience using a QR code for an event registration. Once I received an email that my code would expire in 2 days, I visited the site. Unfortunately, our event publications were already paid for and current. So I was willing to purchase a plan. They even gave 3 plan options. I selected a basic monthly plan $15.98, charge me for a year $190. No review of the plan, no final payment review, they just charged it. Then sent an invoice, which was when I saw the year charge. There has been no customer service response to my inquiries. No number to call. I wish I had researched more. As I read all the reviews, it's sad that after all these years this company is still deceiving customers!
Deceptive sales tactics. It presents as a free option, then surprises you by locking your "free" QR codes behind a subscription after 14 days. They do not tell you that you are on a free trial. I would not recommend. I made QR codes for an event. Put up posters, and then halfway through my promotion run, they locked out my QR codes. Slimy.
Like others I was charged for another year of use without much heads up. Within the hour the charge hit I request them to cancel and refund - they refused to give any refund. I opened a case with PayPal to get a refund from this company and on the last day that case was open they "issued credit to my account" but if I try to log into my account it's locked - if I try to unlock it by contacting support it sends me to a 404 screen.
This business is a scam. There is no communication before trial that explains the code access will expire and there is no accessible plan for month-by-month use. All plans are 250 QR codes minimum. There is no way to do just 1 free QR code. If you print materials with the QR code on it, they will only tell you AFTER you've paid for the printed materials that your code and access to use the code will expire - and when they do, you only get a 2 day heads up, and their customer service team only commits to responding within 5 business days.
When you upgrade your account in order to keep the QR code access (for your printed materials that you've already paid for). The cheapest, lowest commitment option seems to be the monthly-subscription, but it says you will be charged semi-annually. THEN, there is no price summary before the upgrade to confirm the amount that you are about to be charged. There is no option for refunds and no flexibility offered to downgrade your plan. This business is an absolute scam and they don't allow phone customer service which further demonstrates a lack of care/support.
We used this company for a single QR code last year and had to enroll into an annual plan in order to do so. The QR code was used over a 2-day period at a tradeshow. The remainder of the last 363 days, it was never used. A year later, they charged our credit card for another $100 something dollars without notice, although the account was clearly dormant. When I reached out to them 2 days later to get the account deactivated and to a get refund their response was:
"Like other subscription providers, we incur ongoing costs related to your accounts, regardless of its actual usage. Therefore, the subscription needs to be cancelled before the renewal date.
We're sorry for the inconvenience, but we are unfortunately unable to issue a refund."
In short, we paid for 2 years worth of this tool to use during 2 days. As an agency, we use dozens of subscription tools and have had times where we forget to cancel an auto-renewal but this is the first time that a company refuses to issue even a partial refund.
Just theft
Be careful this site is a scam and will make you pay 43 euros with no refund possible (paypal dispute required)
Don't get scammed like me
DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. I PAID $173 RENEWAL AND THEY NEVER ACTIVATED MY QR CODES I WAS USING WITH THEM. I ASKED FOR A REFUND, AND THEY REFUSED! THESE GERMANS ARE CROOKS! STAY AWAY AND USE A US COMPANY, NOT THESE GERMAN CROOKS.
NONE! I 100% regret inadvertently believing I could create a FREE QR code only to have it deactivated in 14 days. I should know this was Bait to Switch for an expensive product. Following deactivation, I believed I was activating my QR Code for a total of $9.99 only to find out I purchased a $120 product. I immediately tried to cancel the purchase but there is not a phone number and the AI Bot was not helpful. Through various emails with "customer service" I learned I paid $120 to create 2 QR Codes. And, there are absolutely no refunds ever given and no exceptions to this policy (insert BIG red flag).
While this very expensive lesson cost me a lot and took supply money away from my students, I will continuing sharing/educating others in hopes that no other educator takes the BAIT and pays dearly as I did!
$120 for 1 User and 2 QR Codes. That is $60 per QR Code. There are FREE and appropriately priced QR Code Generators for educators who are trying to meet the multifaceted needs of students and stakeholders.
I could get a QR code, but this company looked good and the prices was only a few dollars. Later you discover they want to charge you $20. Per month for something you could have got for free. You can't call this Canadian company, nor do they respond to email. They make it tricky to cancel their bogus subscriptions.
Outrageous scam. I generated a QR code with Online QR Generator (owned by the same site) - even though I need a static code, there is no other option than a dynamic code. Now I had to pay 80$ dollars for 2 CODES (insane) to work for 3 months since the cards are already printed. The company deliberately misleads customers - it's fine to pay for a service but this is literally a scam. Also the price, excuse me? I wish your company all the worst and the soonest closure.
This website is ethically the worst. I generated a QR code for a print job and was not aware that to keep it activated I would have to pay over $150 a year. They did not make this clear at all and when I contacted support they did nothing to resolve the issue or help. This website is a rip off!
The subscription was worded as 9.99 per month but it makes you pay for a year up front. That's very misleading. I asked them for a refund and to cancel it and they said they can only return money to EU residents.
Nothing in the account creation process lead to believe they would just REMOVE ALL THAT WAS DONE if I didn't pay the enourmous (and completly above market price) maintenance fee they charge just to keep 2 simple QR codes running. This is just absurd and unethical. Lost a whole shipment of books because of what they did and they just lost a customer. If the fee was not that insanely high and the whole "pay or you lose everything" was best signaled, I would've glady payed. Since it wasn't, all I have is disdain
I got totally scammed, they pretend to generate QR code, and then without warning you, after 14 days they blackmail you, to force you to pay to keep that QR Code active. What a dark patern, totally a scam. Will definitely raise that to justice authorities.
We purchased the yearly plan, paid almost $200, and created a custom url (for example, qr.xyz.com) which was part of the package. Really nice tools to make good-looking QR codes. So why the 1 star?
Many months into our yearly subscription, our custom URL just stops working. So ALL our QR codes just up and quit on us. Of course we'd already printed them on cards, posters, and a newspaper ad. Of course no support email or phone whatsoever on their site. I opened a ticket after battling their terrible AI "assistant", and was told the only way to fix this was to upgrade. Ok, so it worked for MONTHS, and suddenly, it doesn't, and the only way to fix it is to give this shady company more money? Unbelievable.
The funny thing is? It all worked before. I thought it was pretty good. I would have paid them more money when the subscription came up again.
Think about it: if this is how they treat a paying customer, how are they going to treat you? They are basically shakedown artists. They're just begging for a class-action lawsuit.
Save yourself and don't go anywhere near this vampiric company.
It says free, only asks you to subscribe to get the qr BUT after using the qr some time, it forces you to get a paid plan if you still want to se to continue that qr! NO FREE! Got me in a really bad position! I have so many problems right now I regret soo much! BIG MISTAKE!
Signed up because it was a free account. I ordered 100 invitations and now have to pay $160 CDN to use 1 QR code. Never reported a website, but this is a bad one.

Answer: They responded to my inquiry after going through the "AI" assistant on their website by basically telling me to pay MORE money. So, there's that.

Answer: You have to go through their AI assistant to create a ticket. Really awful "AI" too, basically can't answer anything.
