Their website isn't just inept, but it's designed to be intentionally deceptive, so no end-user can understand their claims structure. Here's why. They have a cost-based classification system Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3) for the meds they deal, but you'll never see this explained on their website and for good reason. Tier 3 meds are the most costly, and Opum Rx refuses to to apply any coverage for them, and will not apply any out of pocket cost to member's so-called "coinsurance' or deductible. The Tier system is not on their website, but their rep siad she would be happy to send me a brochure of the Rx's and to which tier they belong in. Not surprising that this shady outfit would want keep their bait and switch scheme hidden from members and law enforcement.
OptumRx always asks if you will do a survey at the end of each call...they just don't connect you with the survey if you are angry when you call. As with all prescription services this company wants to be in charge of my prescriptions. In charge of refilling prescriptions for me (auto refill), in charge of the number of prescriptions they send (too many if they are on auto refill, with restrictions on me if I re-order), in charge of my credit card (they keep the number), in charge of what prescription cost they will cover, and in charge of contacting my primary care provider. When I call, they can't answer my questions and I have to talk to a supervisor to get anything resolved. These people are middle-men and that's part of the reason prescriptions are so expensive...we are paying for a worthless in between service that just messes up what worked just fine before they were involved.
My company made a horrible decision to move from BCBS to United-boy was that a huge mistake. UHC uses this company to process RX orders and for over 2 weeks, they can not figure out how to process my daily asthma inhaler-so I have gone 2 weeks without it! What a joke-a 5 year old could do a better job!
This mail order pharmacy is awful. These people are the most unkind, insensitive and uncaring individuals I have encountered professionally. The reps are not trained and service is horrible. If you have any other options available to receive your medications please use it. So happy I googled 'TOPA2GET' and got great alternative!
If I could give a negative 1 I would. Its so easy to switch to OptumRx but absolutely impossible to switch back. I have an order for 3 of my meds. One took 4 days to get to shipping. Hopefully I get it soon. One is out of stock and cancelled and you can't talk to a human without extreme effort. I'm still working on getting that med. The third needed approval from my provider and after 3 days of no contact to my provider from these ****, I called my provider and asked them to send approval to my local pharmacy and I actually was able to pick up those meds today.
I had to order diabetic insulin. Optum had up to date prescriptions already. The order did not come and I called to get the status. Apparently the Insulin was on backorder so Optum just canceled the order. I ordered again a week later and again Optum canceled the order. I then called my doctor and transferred my prescription to a local pharmacy.
So why didn't Optum either email me, call me, or text me about the Insulin? For optum to simply cancel the order without any explanation not call me or let me know is UNPROFESSIONAL.

I had a new prescription sent in but they didn't fill it. When I looked on their website it was listed as available for refill. I have 12 bottles of medication ahead but there's always one that they don't sent until I call. I got so tired of that happening with one I just have it fill locally. They I get message after message that they haven't been able to reach my doctor. When I call him he has the date that he sent them in. You can't get a person when you call anymore, you leave a call back number. Twice I never got a call back at all.
My doctor called the pharmacist several times just to clarify the dosage. But the dumb head pharmacist couldn't get the dosage. The pharmacist kept pestering me and the doctor about the same. I feel terrible to have come back to Optum to order for my medications. This was the last I ever ordered and will never ever recommend anyone to go for Optum. When I told the representative she did t even apologize for such a bad service. If I had option I would rate them -100 for such a pathetic service
This is the worst Company for customer service. Every time I have called I have been on the phone for over an hour and have been transferred to at least 4 Departments at a minimum with no resolution to the problem. Each Department start off by asking you the same information. Finally someone Will give you another 800 number so you can start the process again
They do not follow up on anything and UHC Medicare should be ashamed to be affiliated with this group. Your prescriptions will get lost in their "incompetence shuffle", and you will go without your medications. What a scam!
My rheumatologist wanted me to start Humira because I have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. The prior authorization was rejected because it was started by my primary. My rheumatologist put my records and her notes in with the appeal, and it was still rejected. It went to level 3 appeal, and was denied because they said that the medical records had not been sent from Optum to the external reviewer. Then they said I would not be allowed to appeal for 6 months. So, my rheymatologist switched and tried to get me on Enbrel. She sent the prior authorization. It came back denied. They said they did not have my medical records. This is criminal! A legal case needs to be started against this company. There are so many suffering people because of these greedy, grubby liars!
They use the excuse "estimated price" to excuse WIDE variances in prices quoted vs pricing at drive thru pickup.
Customer service folks are marginally civil, and generally if you persist in asking about quoted prices vs actuality, your call will be "dropped".
I have zero confidence in this service.
Experiencing the most horrible service from Optum Rx after my husband's union switched insurance plans on us July 1. The website provides false pricing, then charges your card a higher price -- bait-and-switch? No one can explain why. My husband specifically deleted his CC# and they charged it anyway! They also claim his plan covers a Brand Rx...but not its generic? What a load of BS. Hours already spent going in circles with this and Optum Rx -- and have discovered we can buy his meds CHEAPER WITH NO INSURANCE AT ALL than going through this so-called pharmacy. Optum Rx needs to go down.
First tried our local pharmacy but everything was on back order. So I had an order sent to optumrx, like an idiot, I was sure a bigger Pharmacy would be able to get if faster. Since then it has been a dance with them. Since I canceled the order at OUR LOCAL RX, since script was sent to OptumRX, Then OptumRX went ahead and canceled their order also. Make sense? OptumRx repeatedly said someone from Dr office canceled order@ Optumrx. They than also wanted authorized from Dr office. MA called them but than they stated that no authorization was needed! Nope no one canceled it from Dr or us or local pharmacy! Finally got a hold of the LOCAL pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist there. He said as long as they send him a script he can fill whatever he has. Guess what I just got a notice it's been done so off to the LOCAL pharmacy I go. Poofy on Optumrx!
The automatic phone system at optumrx didn't work when I entered my birthday. It's says the information entered doesn't match. ( I think I know when my birthday is). I called and spoke to a supervisor back in February here it is July and it's not fixed. Spoke again with a supervisor on July 12 was told I would get a call back in 7 days, it's now 12 days and still no answer. Alex tiday and the representative that answered the phone says hold on I need to get a supervisor in the USA! Really! Then came back on the line and said that the supervisor will call me back in 5 days.? I said no I need to speak to someone now. Then she proceeded to tell me that the supervisor do jut call people back. Does anyone At OPTUMRX in the USA or what other country /Planet are on know what they are doing. This is no joke they are dealing with peoples medication. Sincerely Ann Timko
I take 6 medications that I ordered over a month ago. To this day, I have received 2 of them. I had to get two of them locally because it was taking so long to receive. About a week ago, I found out that my insurance wouldn't cover one of the remaining so they had to go to my doctor to find an alternative. They said that it shipped and was delivered. WAS NOT RECEIVED. They are now telling me that I can't use the manufacturer's discount card on the 2nd remaining med...so instead of paying $25 dollars for the med, I'll have to pay $175. AND it's on backorder.
In the meantime, my blood glucose levels are NOT under control. I eat right, minimize my carb intake and make sure that I'm eating the right kinds of carbs. I need these meds to help manage my blood glucose. This company should ABSOLUTELY NOT have people's health in their hands.
I'm a medication prescriber - it's hell trying get meds covered that: 1. Already work for the patient 2. Are actually cheap. As far as I can figure they DENY as a business model for their bottom line
I decided to try Optum bc my insurance was pushing it. Optum was dishonest about being out of stock of medications. I feel like I had to go through an entire legthy process each month to get time sensitive prescriotions. I am pulling all my scripts from them ASAP. Using them is not worth the headache. I don't suggest this program to anyone. It has been a nightmare.
I have found their mail service. They ensure you are supposed to get the medicine, confirm it's being sent and that it has been received. I needed to correct an error I had made. Thinking I probably wasn't going to get a response, but having a few minutes spare time, I called on a Sunday afternoon. The call was promptly answered by a real person (surprise!) who accessed my file immediately, understood my situation, and made the requested change. I didn't have to deal with one robot or drop down menu. What a pleasure.
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.

Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
