The company's reputation is significantly marred by numerous customer complaints regarding deceptive subscription practices and poor customer service. Many users report being misled into signing up for costly subscriptions under the guise of a free trial, with challenges in obtaining refunds despite prompt cancellation requests. While some customers appreciate the quality of the MuseScore app and its extensive sheet music offerings, the overarching sentiment reflects frustration over perceived scams and inadequate support. This combination of positive product feedback and negative service experiences suggests a critical need for the company to enhance transparency and customer care.

I agree with the numerous other reviews. This company uses a vile bait and switch tactic. You sign on a link for a free trial and somewhere along the way it switches to a full PRO membership without making it clear. Immediate refund requests are met with a canned response offering an extended membership or 25% refund. Really wish I'd found these reviews before falling for their scheme.
MuseScore will offer you a 'free trial', charge you $40 instead, and refuse to refund you even if you email them RIGHT AWAY. This clearly happens all the time, as they have an entire response at the ready for this exact situation. Any respectable company would provide a refund, but since they are purposely scamming people, they put the blame on their customers as a way to justify keeping your money. What a horrible experience and company.
Hello Tanna, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry, but we didn't advertise a free trial for the $40/year plan. This plan does not include a trial due to the significant discount on it.

I often need to download music onto my devices. I thought musescore might be a good company to get sheet music from. I opted to try the free trial for a week to see if I liked it. The offer clearly stated I would not be charged at all until the third day. I downloaded some songs but found they didn't have the same chord patterns I am used to. Since they weren't what I wanted, I decided to cancel my free trial less than an hour after starting. I had verified my email already and put in my credit information. I found musescore had charged me $39.99 without my authorization and when I emailed them to ask them to refund me for the transaction I hadn't been aware of, they offered a 25% refund. I've read a lot of similar reviews, it seems to be their chosen way to scam. I disputed the charge with my bank and emailed musescore to let them know. It seems most of their emails are impersonal and automated so I doubt anyone is even reading my emails.
Hello Laurinda, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry, but we didn't advertise a free trial for the $40/year plan. This plan does not include a trial due to the significant discount on it. Yes, we offer a plan with a 7-day free trial period. This plan was pre-selected by clicking on the "Start free trial" button. However, you did not start the free trial. Instead, you selected a 12-month plan at a discounted price by choosing the "Special Offer" option during the subscription process. Thus you did purchase 1-year subscription directly. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements, but you can create refund request by ToS to receive the maximum possible refund: https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
Found this website because I wanted to find a place to leave a review about this awful business. I was trying to find music for my daughter and I to perform and thought this website might be helpful. The preview of what I needed wasn't loading so I clicked to sign up for a free trial and ended up paying 40$ bc of their bait and switch tactics. Then to find out the score didn't have what it said it had. Customers service refuses a refund, but did offer me half price subscription.
Hello Wendeth, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, we offer a plan with a 7-day free trial period. This plan was pre-selected by clicking on the "Start free trial" button. However, you did not start the free trial. Instead, you selected a 12-month plan at a discounted price by choosing the "Special Offer" option during the subscription process. Consequently, you were shifted to a plan that offers a discount but does not include a free trial. Following this, at the next step, you reviewed the details of the discounted non-trial plan, entered your payment information, and confirmed your direct purchase. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements, but you can create refund request by ToS to receive the maximum possible refund: https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
I was charged for a subsription what I havent ordered. I requested a refund and instead of that I was charged for 179 USD. No response since that time.
Hello Léna, Thanks for your report. Based on the provided info you did subscribe two times for two separate subscriptions. Please contact us at [email protected] and mention the word "sitejabber" and your name in the body of the email. We will try to review your case.
I signed up for Musescore to look at one sheet music but did not want to commit to a subscription yet. On the site, it said there was a 7 day free trial so I signed up put in my card information cause they force you to create an account and put these infos. Few hours later, I get an email from them and they have already taken $60 out of my bank!?!
Hello, Thanks for your feedback. It seems that you have chosen a subscription without a trial but at a discounted price, instead of the regular subscription without a discount, which includes a trial. This is the only way the money could have been charged immediately. Please contact us at [email protected] and mention the word "sitejabber" and your name in the body of the email. We will try to review your case.
I would give 0 stars if I could. I signed up for a free trial and was immediately charged $59.99. I reached out to the company immediately to give them a chance to rectify this error and I was met with much resistance. I was offered two options of which neither were full refunds. When I demanded a refund because I was not given a free trial, and immediately charged a large amount of money, I was told that they would not be refunding me due to their "policy." I did not use their services at all, so they have stolen money from me. Judging from the reviews here, I see I am not the only one. I hope they are found out for the thieves that they are, and shut down. I will be recommending other sites to my musician friends and slandering their name all over the Internet. This is disgusting.
There too many incomplete partitures. I.e. Chopin sonata op. 65: many third mouvement scores, none of the other mouvements. The same applies to many other scores (i.e. Bahms, Schuman etc.). I wonder why this occurs and why nobody has taken care of completing the scores that are otherwise pretty useless.
Hello Giovanni, Thank you for your feedback. We will forward this feedback to our developers. We will strive to improve the quality of scores in the future.
As others have said, they don't offer a free trial. It doesn't matter that literally EVERY single page throughout the "free trial" checkout process says you'll pay $0. They bill IMMEDIATELY and then refuse to refund you.
Thank you for your feedback. We do offer a free trial nonetheless. To take advantage of it, you need to follow the steps as shown in your screenshots. And you will indeed receive a 7-day trial for certain. The only thing is, if you click on the "Halloween offer", you will be redirected to a different subscription plan, which does not include a free trial period, but this special plan does come with a significant discount. Regarding refunds, you can always request one here https://musescore.com/contact-refund, but according to our refund policy https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
Musescore started charging if you want to download pdfs from their website. I started a free trial intending to cancel it and was hospitalized immediately after starting it. When I was discharged, I noticed a 70 dollar charge and immediately cancelled the subscription and requested a refund. All they offered me was 35 percent off or 10 extra months, really trying to squeeze money out of me. I already lost a lot of money and I'm really upset with Musescore. DO NOT USE!
We're so relieved to hear that you've recovered and are out of the hospital; our entire support team sends their best wishes for your continued health and well-being. Yes, as you didn't cancel the free trial before the end, then you will be charged. Please contact us at [email protected] and mention the word "sitejabber" and your name in the body of the email. We will try to review your case.
I love writing music with the musescore software. But they make the page look like you'll easily get a free week. I did not get the free week and had to convince them to reverse the charge. When they finally agreed, they made me jump through hoops with my bank and paypal, then ghosted me and did not provide a refund. I am very surprised and disappointed in this company. Do NOT use.
Hello Chad. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. If we promised to issue you a refund, it should already be with you. Please contact us at [email protected] and mention the word "sitejabber" and your name in the body of the email. We will reconsider your case.
This company is the WORST! Tried to sign up for a free trial and they charged me for a whole year. When I explained to them their site was misleading and wanted a refund they offered me a partial refund. Wow terrible business, everyone stay away from this company. They are shady and greedy people.
Hello Matthew, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, some of our subscription plans do not include a free trial period. This information is indicated in the descriptions of these plans. However, these plans are offered with a good discount. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
This is an unethical company. I was looking to buy piano scores and I thought I had to subscribe to do so. WRONG. They use the subscription blurb on the website to immediately charge your credit card with AUD59.99 which is for a year's so called tuition which I most certainly did not want. I immediately emailed the company and told them I pushed the wrong button as I did not want a subscription for tuition and I got a generic reply stating that there were several options for me to take but NO REFUND. I have written to them 6 times so far and no reply. I am from Australia - they are in Cyprus. No phone number - no contact - other than email. Might as well talk with the wall. I have been scammed of my money in 2 seconds flat. This is not a genuine company but a fraudulent entity purporting to serve as musicians' service and product website. There are so many websites out there that are great and genuine - DO NOT USE - Musescore because it certainly not one of them. If I were more computer savvy maybe I would not have been hoodwinked but I think they intend the website to be confusing whether you have computer expertise or not. Scammers and fraudsters is not near what I think they are - they are worse. I have attached my Receipt for the amount they charged me.
Hello Bridgette, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, some of our subscription plans do not include a free trial period. This information is indicated in the descriptions of these plans. However, these plans are offered with a good discount. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements,
But you can always receive a partial refund: https://musescore.com/legal/terms.
Financial bandits! No Free trial - they immediately charge you and then it is very difficult to get money back. They return just a portion of them. I am going to call PayPal to start a dispute because they, MuseScore, cheats people.
Hello Sergey, Thank you for your feedback. We offer a free trial for several plans. Yes, some of our subscription plans do not include a free trial period. It seems that you have chosen one of them. This information is specified in the descriptions of these plans. But, in turn, these plans are sold with a good discount.
They offer a '1 week, no obligation free trial' but took money immediately and are refusing to refund. They even have a special email ready to send out to people who complain about not being refunded (see pic). Do not pay this company any money, they are utterly dishonest.
Hello Hanna, Thank you for your feedback. We do offer a free trial nonetheless. The only thing is, if you click on the "Special offer", you will be redirected to a different subscription plan, which does not include a free trial period (this info is included in the plan description), but this special plan does come with a significant discount.
A few weeks ago I was using this site for violin sheet music as I have for years, they had a banner advertising.77¢ a month for students. As a student strapped for cash I decided to take them up on that offer so I could use some of the premium features of the website, such as downloading the music and printing it out since it's very hard to read three sheets of music on one computer screen. I went ahead a tried to buy one month of the subscription through PayPal. Now I don't know if there was fine print or anything, that's on me for not looking a any obscure sentence mentioning this, but they charged me for a full year! That's $40, and I didn't get a chance to notice till I had clicked pay because that was the only time it said $40. The 77¢ a month they were advertising was false and I tried disputing the charge with PayPal, even sent Musescore an email. To no avail, the dispute ended in their favour. These people are scum, they may have a crap ton of sheet music, but to get access to the features that make it necessary to play well with that sheet music well you have to pay, and they will take all your money in the last second. Get better MuseScore, I had been using your site for years and recommending it to my friends who also play instruments, but after this none of us will go back.
Hello Lexy, I apologize for the advertising that was not clear. But I can assure you that we have never advertised a plan for 77 cents. Furthermore, all purchases on our site are processed through a double confirmation of the price. However, we will take your feedback into account in future updates. I hope you will return to us soon.
I filed through paypal to have my money refunded. When I was signing up I was told it was a free trial. Got charged instantly. Filed a case through paypal. Multiple users have had this same problem.
Hello Autumn, Thank you for your feedback. We do offer a free trial nonetheless. The only thing is, if you click on the "Special offer", you will be redirected to a different subscription plan, which does not include a free trial period (this info is included in the plan description), but this special plan does come with a significant discount.
When you go to the website, they advertise a sale subscription for $39. Then quietly charge your credit card for $59.
Thankfully, my bank declined the purchase. They are SCAMMERS.
Hello Ken, Thank you for your feedback. The reason you were charged for the plan for $59.99 instead of the $39 plan is that you signed up for a free trial with the $59.99 plan. The $39 plan does not include a free trial period. It appears that you selected a different plan than you intended, which is why there is a difference in price.
I subscribed to their free 7 day trial. After using it and realizing I didn't want the subscription I went to settings to cancel my subscription (the offer said you can cancel anytime). The settings page doesn't have a cancel option and says "YOUR ACCOUNT IS STILL SETTING UP. Usually we need no more than an hour to set it up". Problem is that it has been well over an hour and after doing some research this is a way they trick people into taking their money by taking advantage of people who forget to cancel their free subscription and instead of offering a full refund they offer a small percentage or discount on other subscriptions. This is a shady way of doing business and I would avoid them even if I wanted their products.
Hello Trevor, Thank you for your feedback. If you encounter any issues with canceling your subscription, you can always write to [email protected] and request a cancellation. We respond within 24 hours. Yes, our refund policy does not imply a full refund due to licensing agreements https://musescore.com/legal/terms. However, you can always receive the maximum refund amount by requesting a return option according to our Terms of Service.
Dark UI encouraged me to "learn more" about an annual subscription discount when cancelling my free trial, company charged me for annual subscription and refused refunds
