The company's reputation is significantly marred by numerous customer complaints regarding deceptive subscription practices and poor customer service. Many users report being misled into signing up for costly subscriptions under the guise of a free trial, with challenges in obtaining refunds despite prompt cancellation requests. While some customers appreciate the quality of the MuseScore app and its extensive sheet music offerings, the overarching sentiment reflects frustration over perceived scams and inadequate support. This combination of positive product feedback and negative service experiences suggests a critical need for the company to enhance transparency and customer care.

Did not agree to any subscription costs. Registered for FREE TRIAL and was immediately charged $44.99AUD. Absolutely NO way of getting through to the merchant. No reply to email. Circular direction from help 'bot'. Registered as a fraud with bank.
I signed up for a free trial and they charged me for an annual subscription. Now they refuse to issue a refund less than 24 hrs later.

I purchased sheet music without realizing I was being enrolled in a subscription. I never used the subscription, yet when I requested a refund I only received a partial amount back. These auto-renewal, subscription-based practices are misleading and unethical. I will not use MuseScore again and strongly encourage others to avoid it as well.

It keeps telling me to pay even it says it was for free. I found it very annoying and wouldnt let me download it without a credit card or something
I got a subscription unrequested and had trouble viewing, choosing, and downloading resulting in overcharges. Fortunately I was able to obtain a refund.
I wanted to buy a score - just one page of music, a simple song. I understood the fee for that was 1.49€which I was happy to pay. There was a mistake in the melody, so the score was not perfect, but easy to correct. For 1.49€ I'm fine with that. Since I know that sometimes a company would trick you into subsciption or free trial with the first purchase I specifically checkt my account settings, pushing "Subscriptions" and didn't see ANYTHING. No subscription, no plans to charge me with money. Then in a week I got an email that I was charged 39€ for the subscription. I went to the website and found that I do have one and the next charge will be even bigger, 49€ in 3 month. Then of course I spent a lot of time trying to find the cancellation button. Didn't find it, wrote to the client support, got an automathic responce, which at least told me how to cancel. Today I got a letter from the real person and a promice to get my money back. That was a pleasant experience, but even more pleasant would be just a simple way to buy what you want and come back when you need the next score.
Never buy a score from this platform. The scores are a jabber (poorly composed). In addition, Musescore wants you to sign up for more jabber cheets.
The assistant dealt with my enquiry in a swift and courteous manner. Very impressed, and much appreciated
If you're looking to waste your time and feel frustration beyond anything you've ever felt, then I recommend trying to use Musehub/Muse Studio/Musescore 4 (not really sure what this program is anymore) Nothing loads, nothing installs, and by the chance that Muse Studio does install, you won't be able to install sounds or import and use them in Musescore 4. It's a shame what Musescore has become; garbage. You'd be better off downloading Musescore 3 and suffering through that outdated program than trying to use the latest software. Or better yet, notate your scores with paper and pencil and use your imagination for playback. Relentless network errors despite my internet connection working fine for everything else. I've used and loved Musescore 3 extensively, but now the entirety of Musescore just doesn't work at all. I'm not mad, just disappointed Musescore. Do better.

Andrew's support was fantastic
Andrew's support was fantastic, however, he was limited by the company's rules to only allowing me half a refund. I explained that, after seeing Musescore on a google search (for MUSIC CHARTS) I then saw a special "SATURDAY DEAL" for an ANNUAL subscription for just under $40 (U.S. Dollars). I subscribed, thinking I would certainly print off a number of charts throughout the coming year. Then saw that I was charged twice that amount and worse yet, the services offered were not at all including printing FREE charts. Thank goodness for the half refund but that was a costly mistake with a company with NO MERCY, unfortunately for me.
I thought I ordered a single sheet music file for $3.99. I waited for a link to download the file but never received one. I didn't open an account or subscribe to the service. But I checked my Paypal account and found they'd charged me for a subscription for $84.99. I tried to contact Musescore, but they have no phone number to call, only email or chat. I sent a message through chat, but never got a response. I emailed them. I also contacted Paypal and they said they needed to wait for Musescore to respond with information on the transaction. Then I got an email response from Musescore saying they'd issue me a refund, but only if I cancel the Paypal investigation. Since I didn't trust them I asked Paypal if I canceled it and their refund didnt go through for any reason could I reopen the complaint, but I couldn't. So I decided to just wait it out. Paypal kept asking me for information, and proof of the subscription. But I cannot prove something that never happened. I asked Paypal if Musescore had any info about the transaction, like something I signed or an account I opened or if there's a contract number of my subscription. They just said they'd gotten info from Musescore without telling me what it is. It was suggested that I go into Musescore to see if I could cancel the subscription. I don't have an account! I cannot cancel something I don't have access to. I could open a new account but it wouldn't be connected to the transaction that they said took place. Today, I got word from Paypal that the complaint was resolved in the sellers favor! How? I didn't get the song I thought I ordered, and I cant even use the subscription because I don't have an account or the subscription! I'm deleting my Paypal account and every banking account I have and stuffing my money in a mattress like Jack Benny. I'm so sick and tired of this. I CANNOT PROVIDE PROOF OF PURCHASE FROM SOMETHING I NEVER PURCHASED!
The music I purchased was missing an entire section of the song, I paid $12 to not even get the section I specifically wanted because the preview ended before I could see it wasn't there. Literally horrible and I don't even think I can get a refund.
I began the trial period today. I only wanted to see if it would work for my violin beginner needs. While trying to register, I suddenly was billed $40. Attempting a refund I was told I could only get a partial refund for 11 of the 12 months amounting to $20.
UPDATE:
After sending this review to Musescore, they promptly refunded all $40.
It took some stress, but they did refund. I hope others have a smoother experience with them.
The website is intentionally designed to trap customers who come in good faith.
They do not operate honestly. At least not so far.
As a non-professional user for piano music, MuseScore is all I could ask for, handling my music intuitively, with a very modest learning curve, although a raw beginner may take longer to get the feel. A common need is the ability to convert PDF scores, and here it's only moderately successful. I accepted an offer to get published music books, and more, for a heavily discounted special offer. But after paying, found I couldn't get anything, only look. No downloads and definitely no printing. The offer said GET, I couldn't GET anything. Misrepresentation. Immediately, I sought a refund but was refused. It took several days and a stern demand to finally get my money back.
Should have checked reviews, I clicked free trial, but was signed up and charged for Instant (Nontrial) subscription and they don't care at all. This is a scam. Hoping I can get a refund through paypal
I recently was trying to print a sheet of piano music and was shown a link to a "7-day free trial". I clicked this link and signed up thinking that I would be given a free trial period to test out this site and basically just to get this one piece of sheet music. Next thing I know I've been charged over £100! I emailed them straight away to explain my situation and the reply I got was that my 7-day free trial had expired and that I hadn't cancelled it before the end (funny considering it had barely even been 1 hour from having signed up), that I had added on another 'Learning' extension to my subscription which cost me even more which I wasn't even aware of when signing up and that hey had specially 'discussed my case with the head office'. The result? They offered me either a 35% refund or to keep the subscription. Absolute SCAM! Honestly their practises are disgraceful, tricking customers into paying for something they are not fully aware of and then on email denying the reality of the situation and trying to get away with it by offering partial refunds. I called up my bank and they agreed it was very dodgey of them and that by no means should I accept any partial refund. I will be following this up with my bank to star this company as fraudsters. Interesting that when I looked up this website online as well there were MANY forums of people discussing the exact same thing having happened to them. Absolutely ridiculous that a site like this hasn't been closed down or held responsible to its actions.
In sum, DO NOT sign up for this website, it is a SCAM!
This felt like a predatory scam. I went looking for a single score for $2.49 last week, paid for it, and somehow had signed up for a trial premium subscription without realizing. I honestly do not recall reading anything about any subscription during the process, so it must have been hidden in the small print. For me, I thought it was just a straightforward process of buying a single score. This is NOT a case of my forgetting to cancel a 7 day trail - I did not even know I had signed up... like why would I sign up for a pricey premium subscription just to download the one score I wanted... that I paid for, it makes no sense. 7 days later, I get hit with a $49.99 charge. I emailed asking for a refund explaining that this was never a service I wanted, nor even knew I had signed up for, but instead of apologizing for their questionable UI/UX, I was offered the pathetic option to get a 35% refund through an email reply that looked suspiciously automated. My email was probably not read by human, but this scam must be so much their regular modus operandus that they have an automated boilerplate reply for folks who are hit with their scam. I am guessing that this unethical behavior is their main source of income. I've paid over $50 for a $2.49 acapella arrangement at this point. So unethical with zero regard for humanity. My email was never seen by human, the refund form I submitted was never seen by a human, and I waited to talk to customer support in chat on the website so long that the website reset itself. I WILL NEVER USE AGAIN. Don't be scammed like I was! I wish I had checked everyone else's reviews before using this service!
I've been very surprised to discover that Musescore.com will not issue refunds. I paid for a subscription last year and then forgot about it to be honest. On the 10th of December $50 was taken from my account. No reminder had been sent. I emailed Musescore and asked for a refund and explained I had not used the website in nearly eleven months.
In reply to this I got a slightly aggressive email telling me I must have chosen the option and offering a discount. I explained the situation and said that even if I had chosen it there is a fourteen day cooling off period.
Since then I have had no response to my email or a refund. Am really quite surprised to be honest. Upon now doing some research it seems as if Musescore makes a habit of taking peoples money and then refusing to return it. I wish I had seen other peoples experiences before I encountered mine.
I believe this company gains its profit from tricking people into purchasing an expensive subscription they did not intend to purchase. I clicked on the free trial option and assumed that choice was going to be respected and somehow ended up with a £55 charge on my card. I immediately emailed them, still assuming it was a innocent mistake, and recieved a bot reply saying I can either have a 25% refund or a free six months subscription for no extra charge. It was then I realised this was a deceptive marketing tactic that they use in order to make their money. They haven't replied to my emails now and I will be reporting them to a trading agency. STEER CLEAR!
