Signed up for the trial period and neglected to cancel in time. Asked for a refund and got the same canned response as other people and had no initial reply to my request for a full refund. After filing a dispute with PayPal I got a reply from them saying they would give a full refund but couldn't when the dispute in Paypal was open.

That last bit is simply not the case. Paypal states on their dispute page that they do not advise cancelling a dispute UNTIL the refund is issued. I've replied with this information to them and am awaiting any sort of refund.

Annual Renewal Scam

Make sure you do not enable auto renewal, it is very difficult to get your money back if the renewal goes through. I cancelled after 1 day and they offered a 45% refund, it's a scam. Plus all the sheet music I actually wanted needed an upgraded subscription. Musescore is a waste of money, look elsewhere.

I am disgusted by Musescore and its customer service. I had to send multiple messages, emails, requests, to even get a half baked response that they can't help me. I know I am one of many were tricked and mislead into signing up for a free trial, which actually wasn't free and was immediately charged - even though I canceled the subscription immediately. My US Bank account was charged twice for $39.99 each. They offered a $30 refund total - which doesn't even cover the double charge let alone both charges. I have sent many emails and got one response saying they cannot refund the full amount - without even addressing the double charge. Normally, I would forget and move on and I have never left a negative review in my life - but this bothers me to a great extent. I am in college, and cannot afford $80 to be taken out of my account because they tricked me into purchasing a subscription and then double charged me.

I am contacting Pay Pal to hopefully get a full refund, because this is ridiculous. I wish I had seen these reviews before I signed up. I just wanted to surprise my husband by learning the song I walked down the aisle to on the piano. Extremely disappointed.

Not worth A Free Trial

This company is a scam! They advertise a free trial but charge before the free trial period is complete. Then if you cancel a service you do not intend to use on the actual day the free trial ends, they still charge you for a years worth of a service. There is no way to downgrade to the service or select what type of service you want after the free trial either! And good luck trying to go through your credit card company, they will just say "product was sent and received". What product, this is a service that wasn't provided and not wanted and charged without my consent! I should have done my research on reviews before I signed up for a "trial", hoping to help one of my students learn a difficult piano song. For just trying their scores this was a total waste of money and effort! I will never recommend or use this service again.

Subscription Scam

I recently signed up for the 7-day free trial and was charged $59.99 AUD immediately to the bank account. I have cancelled the subscription on the same day and am awaiting their response to my refund request. All through the free-trial process, it was advertised that "You won't be charged during your trial period." Blatant scam.

I forgot about my free SEVEN-day trial period, but luckily, I remembered on the seventh day, and I then canceled my subscription. As you can tell from the photo provided, I was charged on the seventh day. Unfortunately, my card was charged for a yearly subscription anyway ($69.99) a few hours after I had canceled it, and as soon as it was, I contacted customer service and asked for a refund. I was met with horrible customer service, where they went on to say I knew what I was agreeing to when I subscribed. Well, they agreed to email me a reminder that my free trial was ending soon, and they did not. Again, I did cancel my subscription in time but was still charged. So so so frustrating. They said that they could give me a 35% discount and keep my current plan. I have no use for this app/website/company, as many more companies provide more sheet music for much cheaper and with much better customer service. The seven-day free trial period is only six days and they charge you on the seventh. Don't waste your time with this company, even if you cancel your subscription, they will still charge you. Any other company would refund you as soon as they realized what had happened, instead they just waste your time until you just give up.

How can they sleep at night. Scammers. Lying website with a "free trial", that leads to a $40 subscription. It was NOT clear, despite what support tried to gaslight me into believing. Reporting them to bbb.

Like many others, I was scammed by this company. It said there was a 7 day free trial, so I signed up. It was a lie. They immediately charged me $39.99 AUD. I have reported this to MuseScore (who clearly don't care and intend to keep scamming people as much as possible - see the other reviews below) and to PayPal. I will now proceed to report it to all relevant Australian authorities, starting with ScamWatch. This website is blatantly, shamelessly stealing money from people on a regular basis. I wish there was more I could do to protect others from being defrauded.

I tried the tool for 1 year and them they automatically renewed without any notice. At the same day I asked for a refund because I don't use it and there are not so many songs, but they refuse it.

Wish I had come here first. As with so many others here, I was mislead regarding the free trial. Card was charged and the 1 score I wanted to download, was unavailable due to copywrites. What a waste! My refund request was submitted, but reading here I don't expect much in the way of consideration. Crooked company!

Free trial scam

**UPDATE — Musescore has refunded my payment in full. Overall the process only took 3-4 days to get the issue resolved, which is good. I'm still uncomfortable with the way the registration process went down, but they've said they're reviewing and improving it. It was frustrating and off putting to be initially be offered a partial refund, which is what made it feel scammy. But I'm pleased they've refunded in full at this point.**

Like many others, I was misled in the registration process. I intended to utilize the 7 day free trial and was immediately charged $40 for an annual subscription. I went through the refund request process which is really more of a reverse sales pitch process, triggering a "special offer" where I get the privilege of choosing to receive 6 additional months for free or a 25% discount. This is their business model apparently, swindle and mislead people into a subscription with an elusive free trial and when they complain, offer a modest discount in place of a refund. On lots of reviews like mine, musescore staff are replying to explain that the $40 tier doesn't have a trial because it's such a great deal as a heavily discounted rate. They fail to see, no one cares. They're flooded with negative reviews by people who were only attracted to their service by the words "7 day free trial", who were then immediately gouged for $40 and who are now being told, "because it's such a great deal". It's irrelevant how good a discount $40 is and it's severely out of touch for "customer service" to hop on here and explain the absurdity of their different subscription tiers in the comments instead of just doing integrity and refunding where they've misled.

Absolutely terrible

Like many others, I was tricked into paying $40 for a yearly subscription. I cancelled not even an hour after subscribing and did not use the service. After a few back and forth emails with customer support, in which I had to quote their TOS to them, I eventually was refunded $30 and my account was changed to a monthly subscription, meaning I now paid $10 for a month of the service, most features of which are useless to me. Awful customer service and predatory business practices.

Trial period is a scam

On 11/28/23 I signed up for a "free trial" but canceled within hours on the same day. My credit card was charged $39.99. I emailed the company and got an automated reply that they had received my email and if I wanted to apply for a refund I would need to fill out a refund request, which I did. I then received an email asking me if I was satisfied with support. Of course not. I haven't received any further communication from them after repeated attempts. I only clicked on 1 star because there isn't an option for none. Beware of the "free trial" - no such thing. Not sure what to do at this point other than to file this review and encourage anyone NOT to sign up with them. Update: the company did eventually refund, but not until after many unanswered emails and after this bad review. They claim I didn't sign up for the free trial. But I did. Their free trial offer was very confusing to begin with. So if I didn't, then they used a bait and switch trick. So my advice is still to beware.

I dont understand...

Me, I play the trombone since about 8 months, and Im very passionate about it.
I saw some YouTubers use a notation software, and I didnt even know those existed, so i searched for one.
A free and working one.
After a few months, I still think Musescore is a great option for anyone, and I would rate it 5 stars any day.
Anyone should give it a try.

Hello David, Thanks for your feedback. We always charge for the exact plan that the subscription was made for. The type of plan cannot be changed on our end. Please check your email. There you will find receipts as well as a letter with information about the type, period, and price of the subscription. We send letters with this information right from the moment the subscription is made. You can cancel it at any time if you accidentally subscribed to a different plan than you intended.

I am a beginner piano player and wanted to use this product to enhance my learning experience. Unlike most of the others here, I signed up for a PRO+ membership for $35.99 intentionally. I wanted to use it on my IPAD as well as my desktop PC. I found out that important features such as transcribing to a different key don't work in the PC web version of the software. However, if you try to use the mobile version of the software as instructed by the web version, you run into MAJOR costly problems. When you login to your account on the mobile app, you are told that you are on a 7-day trial and will be automatically charged for a year if you don't cancel before the end of the trial. If you try to continue further in the hope of getting to a menu where you can stop the 7-day trial, you end up on a page which tells you to choose one of 3 extremely expensive subscriptions. One is selected by default. There is a continue button at the bottom of the page which appears to immediately bill you for a year worth of subscription at a VERY high cost. I could not see any option to cancel the trial or to exit that page without hitting the continue button and purchasing an expensive subscription. So, I went to the IPAD home screen and deleted the application. I reinstalled the application hoping to make another attempt to stop the 7-day trial. Whenever I restart the application, it brings me to that continue button which appears to be the one that will probably bill me for another new subscription immediately. So, I tried to click the support button on the Apple App Store page. However, it just brings me to an error screen saying that the web page doesn't exist. So, I entered a support message through the PC web version of the application. I received what appears to be an automated response saying that it will take up to 7 days for MuseScore to respond to me. I know that there is no use in cancelling my web membership even though I'm within the 14-day period where I can request a refund. The reason is that if you read their refund policy, I will get little or nothing back out of the amount that I paid for the membership which was $35.99. So, I might as well use the limited functionality which is available to me. Still, I am more worried about whether they are going to try to charge me for the IPAD app membership resulting from a free trial which they appear to have automatically started because I logged into the app using my PRO+ account login. If they automatically signed me up for a 7-day trial membership to the app, they have not provided any way to cancel it. They don't appear to be a trustworthy company. I would suggest that you don't use their services.

This means that once you purchase the Pro+ subscription on our website, you do not need to buy the same subscription again to use the mobile application. If you encounter the window on the app start-up that suggests starting a subscription press 'X' in the upper left corner and log in using your MuseScore username and password. This will help you share your web purchase with the mobile application. Also, we technically cannot set up a free trial for you from our side. Please contact us at [email protected] after you log in to the mobile application with your MuseScore account, and we will try to assist you as soon as possible.

Scummy Auto Renew Policy

It is totally within their right to have an auto renew policy. But, it is super scummy. I signed up a year ago, must have been the free option because I've never made a payment for any subscription to musescore. Today I am charged $69 for the PRO+ account. I immediately complain and file for a refund, offered only 55% refund or an extended membership. It's obvious this is a "problem" that countless customers have complained about for years. But it's not a problem, it's their method of making money. They make their money because you forget. Doesn't speak highly of their product if they must rely on tricks.
