This company is so dirty! We bought a toy for our child for Christmas, and it didn't work. When we opened it, we could see that the battery compartment and been meddled with. But since it was a gift, we didn't open it within the 72 hour window to make sure it was all functional. The sellers are dishonest and Mercari doesn't do anything to penalize the behavior. I will never be shopping here again. $50 out the window, and all they said is, "We understand that our Policy regarding completed transactions isn't what you expected but we appreciate your understanding.
I know this transaction didn't go as planned but I hope your next experience is one of the best."

I purchased a product at Thanksgiving for Christmas…. I didn't think to unwrap it and thoroughly check it for fraud…. When the gift recipient opened it at Christmas, the bottle was clearly tampered with and the product was a fraudulent ripoff. Alternatively the product was extremely expired, but fraudulent ripoff seems more likely here.
I contacted Mercari immediately, and their only response was: "we're sorry, you're too late." So essentially "fraud happens on our platform and it's up to you to perform due diligence on every purchase."
Unfortunately I will not return to Mercari.
Horrible I was not sent a confirmation of the order. The order was placed on an email address that was a backup address (not the one used to set up the account but any Mail still comes to same inbox) orders was said to arrive before Christmas but since it was not shipped until 6 days after order was placed and paid for, along with the fact that no confirmation was given and no tracking information was given I was forced to re purchase elsewhere to insure a little girl got her Santa gift. Mercari"s response was to say they were sorry but to wait and see if the tracking info did not show up and file again January 17th. The item arrived on Saturday
Two days before Christmas. Mercari will say they are sorry and then ask for your email address by writing to the email address they are asking for, your telephone number, shipping address, all information they have already. It is a stall tactic in my opinion. This was the first and LAST time I will use Mercari.

Company is dumb, i sent in photos to authenticate but you want the gold mark, mine is not solid gold, you want the vercase mark and i gave it to you, its not serial numbered what else do you dumb people want, you have no phone complete looser company you suck
I am taking the time out of my day to leave a 1-star review for Mercari based on their obnoxious tactics to make unsubscribing or leaving their platform as complicated and time-consuming as possible, in hopes that you'll give up in the process and stay trapped in their system.
Receive the 500th email you didn't want from them. Now that you're already fed up, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. Did you think Unsubscribe links would take you to Unsubscribe places? Mercari didn't. You are taken to a logged out page where you have to log in, and good luck remembering your ancient credentials from that one time you used their obscure site years ago.
If you're determined, or still have the time to waste, go through all the steps now to reset your password. After running to your email, resetting the password, logging in, and getting a confirmation login code from your email, you might feel utterly close to deleting your abandoned account. Sorry to inform you that now, you're fishing around in the settings menu for the undetectable 'Close My Account' button.
It's been almost 10 whole minutes now. You search 'How to delete account' in the Help Center, to find that the functionality is *only available in the mobile app*. Do you see the gaslighting here? They're trying to get you to spend as much time fishing around in both their website AND their MOBILE APP before you are truly able to escape their clutches.
So my sorry searcher had to download their app, login, get another email login code, and finally find and click, Close My Account, just to be logged out and delete the app right away.
Anyone with a brain can see that this strategy is to get people with as much screen time in Mercari's product as possible, in hopes people will be distracted out of deleting their account by something triggering their ADHD, or by simply running out of time to find the exit. It's naive and deeply annoying. Yes, all companies want to attract and retain customers. But only some of them are pitiful enough do so with deception and sabotage. Your tactics are not lost on me.
I hope this review doesn't make you lose more customers than you were able to keep with your trap tactics.
I brought a purse that was suppose to be a coach bag. When I received the bag it was in good condition so I did the rating. Come to fund out a week later when I was going to start using it that it was a fake bag. Contacted CS and was told I would have to take it to a coach store and get it put in writing that it is fake. I sent pics of a real bag to show them the differences but was told they would not have the seller refund me. I will be closing my account and not doing business with this site. Total disappointment in the way this was handled
I am an active online seller and have been doing so for over 20 years. You get absolutely no support from Mercari. Trying to contact them is an effort in futility, they run you around in circles with their worthless help center. To find their actual email address you have to search Google. Their response to any return request from a buyer regardless of how ludicrous is to say your item was not as described and force you to accept the return. Today was my final straw dealing with Mercari. Our company is closing all of our listings on Mercari and highly suggest everyone else does the same. It is only a matter of time before every seller on this platform gets to experience the frustration we experience here.
Mercari doesn't do jack about scam seller accounts. It doesn't matter how many reports these accounts' listings get, these profiles get to stay up and keep scamming people and Mercari doesn't care. Scammers can block user's warning comments immediately but Mercari never reviews reports on these accounts. DON'T trust buying from a company that supports scammers like this.
Very unprofessional business practices going on here! 1st last time I will purchase from mecari or anyone having to do with them. I purchased a 17.3" Dell laptop. Ad stated it was in NEW, like NEW condition. I received a 15.6" Dell laptop in an obviously water stained box that was shredded up on ends. Lots of packing tape used at one end since laptop was a couple inches longer than the old box shipped to me in. I filed for valid return ofollowed all policies only to be denied. They marked it resolved! This is not resolved! I've filed with my card company. They will resolve this issue! I strongly recommend staying away from doing any business with this company. Bunch of bull$#*!!
Do not buy from them. I received a damage $120 item and they are refusing to refund me cause at first I try to return it due to it sized and didn't fully unwrap the item cause I was being nice to seller. I believe the seller knew this and wrap it up extra now Mercari is a accomplice in this situation. I showed the proof
My first purchase on this website I bought an item I had long been searching for and the seller immediately cancelled my transaction.NO reason given. Very disappointing. A contract had been made and summarily broken without so much as a reason why. Amateurs.
They charge for prepaid shipping labels and when you try to track them sometimes it doesn't work and when I say sometimes I mean about 50 to 60% of the time. So you pay money for a prepaid shipping label that says you can track it and then mercari proceeds to give you an invalid tracking number or a tracking number that can't update and then on top of that they leave it up to the buyer to acknowledge if they receive the item or not. And not all buyers are honest so as a seller cause this has happened to me numerous times. I've sold items package them up shipped them to the buyer and then mercari kept the payout. The buyer kept the item and I got screwed on both. This is a common business practice for mercari. They are downright pathetic and grimy platform and their criminal business practices will get them shut down in time.
Selling platform is super easy to use. Customer support is absolutely terrible and they do nothing at all to help you. They also give way too much power to the buyers making sellers wait days weeks months at a time to get compensated because a buyer doesn't feel like making a simple rating.
I purchased an item in very good condition, the label had no marks on it. When games arrived, not damaged in shipping, the label has dented lines all over the front label. I contacted Mercari & they said it does meet their criteria for a return item. Do not trust this website. Contacted paypal to get refund. 1st photo show game displayed in listing, front & rear label, the item I paid for. The 2nd,3rd, 4th & 5th picture is what I received. Marks all over the front label. Mercari said it doesn't meet their criteria for a return & refused refund. I disagree, the pictures of the item I paid for & received its not in very good condition. DO NOT TRUST MERCARI
I've had a wonderful time buying and selling on Mercari! It's been better than using Depop and other services at times.
I used to sell items very quickly on here and I've been able to buy some authentic rare items for cheaper here.
PLEASE make this service available in Puerto Rico. I no longer live in Florida so I can't use the website anymore. It was my favorite selling/buying service.
USPS considers Puerto Rico "domestic" USPS for labels, so it should be possible to use Mercari, but it's not allowed yet… Hopefully in the future…
Received the wrong item from a seller. Then after searching high and low for a place to report incorrect item received, Mercari tells me that I didn't send enough photos of the incorrect item for them to make a determination. Well, when the item I purchase says MAC on the box and the product I receive says CHANEL, WTH else do you need? I will never purchase anything again from this POS site. Save your money and your time.
I've made a lot of sales on Mercari but I'm tired of them keeping a big stake of all my items, even if you bump it up to the next dollar "so you can make a little more" you still get cents added to what's yours. At this point they are just stealing from all sellers their percentage and fees are insane. Their insurance also is a joke I had a clear case where it was the transportation companies fault for handling the package with no care, even the buyer stated it and their response was "be careful and package your items better" they were extra bubble wrapped it's insane they will say anything to not cover.
If you buy on Mercari beware sellers are allowed to peddle fake merchandise such as audio equipment from manufacturers that don't and have never existed. The scammer puts fake products in pretty boxes and say open box never used! Gives really vague description! When buyer receives the item and realizes its scam Mercari gives you the run around. Then after a month of back and forth with their customer disservice bots they deny your request for a refund and allow the scammer to walk away with you hard earned! I wouldn't purchase a pack of toilet paper from their site because if you're not careful you might wind up with just POOP NO PAPER!
I bought shoes that were seriously defective. But because 3 days after delivery date had passed, Mercari rated and completed my purchase and I wasn't able to return items. How convenient to give your sellers 5 stars for selling shoes that literally fell apart and disintegrated the first time I wore them!
Mercari allows fake Apple products to be sold on their site. Then when the buyer provides documentation from Apple that proves it is a fake, they tell you it is too late and you're sh%t out of luck. Terrible customer service. STAY AWAY!
I ordered a jacket that was advertised as a women's small when I got it it was a children's small the sleeves came all the way up to my elbows I sent pictures and there it was right on the listing women's small and they denied my return the main problem is when they denied my return. I just asked why and they wouldn't give me an explanation. They just cut me off. I messaged them two times after that and I messaged the seller and they said it with the seller and said there wasn't a category for that. It's clear I was mislead and they still wouldn't let me send the jacket back. I've had issues with them before but I thought I would try again and I get the same treatment. I don't think I want to deal with Mercari anymore. You can't reach them through anything but messaging so if they don't wanna deal with you, they just complete the sale and you're stuck.

Whos paying taxes on it? FTC will get your money! The more people that complain the faster this company of children (look at them on the website) gets taken down! The faster we all get paid!
