Compared to their competitor I have always liked and appreciated the help from the employee's. Also I am handicapped and they seem to always have an electric cart ready for me.
The staff at our local Lowes is outstanding. Helpful and do their best to help you out, and save money by not always recommending the most expensive alternatives, but rather what they would use.
Lowe's is very good store. However, their products are competitive.

I got a great price on a washer-dryer set somewhere else but I have always liked doing business with Lowes. I took the deal to Lowes and they agreed it was lower than their price and gave me 10% of that best price as is their offer of price match. I also got a credit card with them that gives me 6 months same as cash. They delivered both pieces and set them up for free as well. I will use Lowes whenever I can because of their service and business ethics. I have also bought a frig and dishwasher from them as well. Same great service.
I have always had a pretty good experience at Lowes. They have helpful staff and good quality items. They do a good job of installing appliances. They are rather large and sometimes it is hard to find someone to help and since it is so large it is often hard to find what you are looking for. Some items are a little more expensive than the local hardware store.
My local Lowes for which I buy on line & pickup at the store, has better stockages than local HD. Rarely do they not have something in stock that I need. I can't say that for HD
Less than a year ago I purchased a 300.00 TroyBilt pressure washer from Lowes in Acworth, GA. I used it a few times before the winter, then when I tried to start it this spring it would not start. I took it back to the same store for service, and they are charging me over 100.00 for repairs, even though it is within the 1-year parts and labor warranty. The excuse is that I used commercial gas instead of the pre-packaged fuel they sell, and the ethanol in the gas was what caused them to have to replace the carburetor. I spent over an hour on the phone with them and the result is they told me to call the manufacturer because it was not Lowe's. It was TroyBilt or Briggs & Stratton that was the problem. I will never shop at Lowe's again.
Great customer service in various areas of the home improvement section. Always willing to help with any questions I might have and even walk the extra steps to take me to exactly where I need to go to locate something needed.
Like the other big box store they have stuff you will always need
Products are nicely displayed. Best company to buy construction material. Stands behind their products. Return policy is good. Staff is reasonably friendly. Sometimes take lot of time to get your online booked products from the store.
I've had good experiences with this company. One order the sent damaged goods. They were plastic containers and I didn't check them, just used them as necessary. When getting near the bottom found out they were damaged. I had to duct tape them inside and out in order to use them for my purpose.
They are the best big box store. Always plenty of help when you need. Even some customers like to help, its an interesting concept. Save money over retail, do it yourself and save money again.
I come to Lowes all of the time to purchase different stuff for my construction projects. Always a good time.
I ordered a faucet, Lowe's charged my card, and sent an email to confirm it was shipped, but sent no tracking number. Ten days later, I still don't have the item. I have to contact Lowe's to see where it is. Oops. They never actually had it in stock -- even though they charged me card and told me it was shipped. What a terrible customer service process. It help up my renovation by two weeks. Not impressed.

Answer: If you contract with Lowe's, Lowe's is the general contractor. You signed the contract with Lowe's, not with his subcontracted retailer or installer. Lowe's will try to push the responsibility downstream and require you to take it up with him, but in the end, Lowe's is responsible.
