The customer service is good but be forewarned re: the customer product reviews on the company's website - the company does NOT publish negative reviews about products unless you also say something positive about the customer service, etc. While boots, outerwear and gear are still good quality, the overall quality of their clothing has declined since they started importing most of it several years ago - I have 8-9 year old wool sweaters from them that are still going strong, while I only got a season or 2 of wear out other more recently-purchased sweaters from them.
I have been ordering from L. L. Bean for over 10 years and will continue to order from them, especially during the Christmas holidays. Their returns are pretty painless and very fair. The quality of their clothing has continued to be great. I love doing business with L. L. Bean! Sharon A.

LLbean's site it easy to navigate. I like that they have reviews posted as I don't have a store in my state that I can check products out at. One waning though, be wary of items that don't have any reviews. I bought a purchase that listed no reviews, was disappointed by the product and wrote a review. 6 months later my review is still not listed on the website. In other words if a product has no reviews, it may have unpublished reviews that are all negative.
To those die-hard LL Bean customers, yes the company did get my review. They commented on it and tried to make things right. I was happy with their customer service, except that they kept my review a secret. This is dishonest in my mind.
When it comes to enduring clothing quality, I end up testing things out. I have torn a number of shirts, pants, and so on. I have not ordered through their site recently, so I can't really give a 100% review of things there. But I can say that all my past orders were exactly what I expected, and the clothing wore well, lasted a long time, and was worth what it cost.

The rest of the service industry could learn a thing or two from LL Bean. To say they stand behind their products is an understatement. I bought a waterproof jacket from them and when it started to not be so waterproof, over a year later, they replaced it no questions asked. This has got to be the best online shopping site in the universe. Same category as Zappos. Fast shipping; easy returns. Free returns if you have the credit card. I actually give Bean more business than Lands' End solely because of free returns; the site is easier to navigate; and their returns are processed much more quickly. Oh, and I like the stuff, too!
