For Christmas a few years back my wife bought me a thermometer from LLBean "First Watch Weather Station". This November 2014 it started to get temperamental, so I called LLBean for suggestions to see if I could reboot it or something. Being age 68 I don't know everything anymore. We went through different motions without success.
I was told it was "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed since 1912" and if I gave them my credit card info they would send me a new one, when I returned the broken weather station I would get a refund of the purchase price. So I got the new one, sent back the old one and never received any refund or email that they received it.
I called them after 2 weeks and they said I would get a refund that day. I did partially get it. My wife paid $19.95, the price when up and I paid $39.95 "Item: TA*******". They discounted what my wife paid to $14.95 (they wouldn't tell me why but maybe my wife got a $10.00 gift card for buying items before Christmas). Wife says no.
I wrote a review on the LLBean web site and after 2 days it was deleted.
If I was told by LLBean up front that I would only get a partial credit and I was actually buying a new weather station I would be OK, If I decided to buy another, but I was never told.
Gift Card Scam at LL Bean. Received a Gift Card for my birthday and tried t use it on line. Website would not process the order without a credit card (should have been the first warning). Called the 800# and ordered and gave the Gift Card # and the Pin # (read it slowly TWICE). Was asked for a cc# "to cover shipping/tax" and fell for it. Well 2 hours later I get an email that the entire amount has been charged to my credit card. Spent 3 hours on the phone trying to cancel the order and reorder but no dice. Until I said that I would be filing a complaint with NY State Inspector Generals Office for deliberate credit card fraud in charging an unauthorized amount to my card without my knowledge. Mentioned my Cousin works as an Auditor for them. LL Bean hung up and 10 in later called back and offered to credit my cc# with the Gift Card amount and refund all taxes and shipping...
I seems that LLBean runs this scam and uses your money during the 45 days they take to "refund" you the Gift Card "error". It is called a "float" in CC terms. Do not fall for it!
CANADIANS: Do not order from here. It says you are on LL Bean Canada site but they still charge a large amount of Duty and tax, and then charge you the American $ exchange rate. So annoying, I even asked the customer service rep on the phone. 2 pairs of shoes that were $25 each ended up costing me almost $80! Bad representation of what the site has to offer for shipping, availability to Canada etc.
They will not post reviews that customers write that aren't positive. I purchased a cart from them got it and threads are pulling out of it. Also made in China.
LL Bean absolutely REFUSES to publish any comment that is not flattering to their products. (CHERRY PICKING). They outsource their manufacturing of garments to El Salvador. IF you make note of this FACT in your review - BAM... NOT PUBLISHED. IF you make reference to the FACT that their products quality has slipped and is not as good as years ago - BAM... NOT PUBLISHED! Just try to get a refund from unused gift cards. They will ignore you until you threaten to turn them in for FRAUD. LL BEAN IS A SCAM AND A RIPOFF.
UPDATE: I turned in LL Bean to the Better Business Bureau for "cherry picking" reviews and suddenly my review of their shoddy merchandise was published! Even more proof that LL Bean is just NOT the company it USED TO BE...
I've always had good experiences with LL Bean customer service -- until now. I sent them a fine fleece jacket (actually my favorite garment), and instead of fixing it they sent a new inferior product -- with no communications with me. Now they tell me that my perfectly good jacket (only a bad zipper) was thrown out. I believe their customer SERVICE had become customer DISSERVICE!
I ordered and received a long sleveed tee shirt. When I checked 1 sleeve was an inch and a half longer than the other. I called to return and was told free shipping label would be sent. I have to find envelope and get to ups, then my account would be credited. I have been shopping at llbean for many years, you would think they would make some additional effort-I did not make 1sleeve longer than the other-I do not live

I don't do outdoorsy things and their clothing (even petite) isn't cut well for my height/stature so I don't shop there normally but I needed waterproof gloves to potentially a) hack ice from the wind shield b) clear snow from the windows/roof and c) shovel snow! I have literally, child sized hands so it's hard for find adult gloves to fit me and not many come in xs. So, I came across a model on the ll bean site and it was on sale so I ordered it (free shipping). Alas, it was too big and bulky - even for normal female hands so I had to return it in store. Despite paying using PayPal, they were able to refund a credit card I had linked to PayPal. So in conclusion, although nothing fit properly buying online from them and returning an item was hassle free!
Have no beef with ll bean. Just didn't have my size and had to pay cost of return. There policy has changed, if i remember right. Bricklayer

Answer: Fairly easy to get a CS rep via chat or phone but they aren't as conscientious as they once were and seem to use a lot of canned responses.
Answer: If you don't get results from one customer service representative, ask to speak to a supervisor. I emailed my question in and had a quick response and exceptional service. Had I not, I certainty would have gone up the chain of command.
