After 8 weeks we finally received two dvds and no instructions on how to save or retrieve any movies on line! I've called many times, and no one answers! They finally just hang up. You may want to research other services.
Three times I tried to write a negative review and 3 times I was kicked off. And this time I had to write at least 100 characters. I hope I made it
Sent 7 VCRS to be converted to DVD's. Six of the returned items were hard to watch due to white streaks on 5 of the DVD's the 6th one was only white streaks. No picture. Left residue in my DVD omit. The 7th was a 2 hour movie that only had 45+ minuets. Many areas. Were cut out. I DO NOT recommend this company.
I placed my order 3 months ago. Still waiting... they say the order is still in production. I'm so disappointed. Not what they advertised. I'm now very worried about the quality of the items I'll get back. I sent many items and have spent almost $500 to have them digitized.
Sent videos weeks ago. Just sent my 8mm tapes back but no CD? Ordered an E Card too and can't get the promo code to work. They will not take phone calls so there is no one to ask about these issues. Absolutely awful customer service.
I contacted Legacybox to ask about conversions for my late father-in-law's old 8mm movies and Kodak slide pictures. They wanted almost $1K for transfer and did not even bother to give me a time frame for completion. Here in San Antonio we have the same services, Alamo Film Transfer, that did the conversion for a fraction of the cost, and the quality was OUTSTANDING! Contact Lee at Alamo Film Transfer, even if you live out of town. Or you may have a similar service in your town. DON'T go with Legacybox!
NOTHING IS TRANSPARENT AND IN ORDER TO COMPLETE MY ORDER AS I THOUGHT, I HAVE TO FORK OUT ANOTHER $20. IT'S BEEN A MONTH, THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY RIGHT AWAY TOO.
I sent 10 vhs tapes out in early March 2020. Today, May 23rd, I revived the usb and my vhs tapes back in the mail. This was supposed to be a gift to my dad but I can't even give him this usb. The first 40 minutes is a family that is not ours, and secondly, out of the 10 tapes I sent, maybe 1 was transferred to the usb. I have emailed the company today and waiting on a response. I was truly excited about this gift for my dad, only to be very disappointed. Hopefully their customer service team can refund me as I will not be giving this to my dad as a gift.
How many ways can I say 'A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE"?
I sent in 2 reel-to-reel tapes to be transferred to CDs. It took over 6 weeks! One CD was okay, the other sounded like they were dragging chains through it. I sent it back with the original CD and the reels to show the problem. I got back 4 CDs with a FAINT sound, basically nothing on them! And didn't even get my original CD that was half okay. The engineer must have been drunk - certainly didn't bother to test his work. Requested I get my money bank, SAVE YOURS! With all their advertising, they have expanded WAY too fast. Waste of my time.
Will not answer phone and can not get any customer service. They make sure you give them money up front then when they get your money will not speak to yoiu.
Took longer to get done due to the pandemic and I'm okay with that. 17 of 20 tapes were transferred and I'm excited to have them and they are good quality considering age of them. Bummed they couldn't' transfer a few. Reason for 2 stars, they aren't IPad friendly. I didn't research the manner of how I would view them on my iPad close enough. I've had a lot of issues downloading them and viewing them. It's a bummer because I don't have a computer and their advice is to use my computer to download and view them. 4 star for the service they provide. 2 stars for way you view the videos once received.
Took over three months to get my order returned it was done poorly choppy errors on the screen the sound was echoing definitely not worth the money or how long it took absolutely not worth it
I have used legacy box on three occasions. The product that I received back is exceptional. However their process is incredibly slow. I placed my last order on April 8 and it took almost 2 weeks to get my box to send my items. Then I received a message on May 5 that they had received my package so now it is approaching one month since I placed my order and my products have not even begun to process. They are typical turnaround time from order placed until items received is typically close to six weeks.
Most of the video was good but saw and awful lot of blue screens and 2 videos were just blue screen for an hour! I wasted my money just for a blue screen when i can find one by deleting system 32 and looking at google.
Legacybox put my old photographs into a digital file that is easily shareable. The service was fast and attentive. Though slightly expensive, I would use Legacybox again.
Hi, Kate! Thank you so much for the feedback. We are so happy to be able to provide an outlet for you to share your photographs easily, and we hope that we can digitize more for you in the future!
It has been almost 3 months since I sent in precious videos. I called 3 weeks ago and they made up excuses about turnaround being affected by COVID. But, to be clear, they had it for weeks before COVID impacted business. 3 weeks ago they said 10 weeks is normal. Really? Then they said it was the virus. Not true either. Then they said it would ship on Monday (3 weeks ago). Really? They do not have their act together and I am beginning to think they lost my valuables and just won't admit it. I'm talking 6 videotapes that they have not been able to digitize in 3 months. I get an email every week saying they are working on it, uploading it, getting ready to ship or whatever. 6 videotapes? If it takes that long to process 6 tapes they have been "uploading" for over 2 months, I hope they have a customer base of no more than one customer or they will never see their belongings. Terrible.
P.S. - I would add photos but they have my stuff so I can't add any photos!
I sent in several high quality items, expecting quality results. I did not get that, complained in writing and asked for a refund. To be clear, their customer service is truly excellent, but the finished product is degraded (in my opinion). Images on my original format, in some cases were very good and could be played on a large modern TV set (41" inches or bigger) with good results. The image quality I received back from Legacy was clearly, clearly a step down (not much good for viewing on anything other than a smart phone). Some of the items I sent in were not of good quality, and I appreciate Legacy Box completing the order. I do not anticipate using Legacy for any additional work. I will look for another source to use next time. I did not receive an offer of a refund.
Really this is a very bare bones service.
No effort was made to assess the sound quality.
A simple noise reduction would have eliminated the hissing that is omni-present on the new recordings.
And there are even long periods of silence because no effort is made to assess when the tape actually ended.
Further, the delays were numerous.
My tapes were at the facility for more than a week before LegacyBox communicated they had been received, and the process took more than a month longer than described.
Meanwhile I got a couple messages full of generic messages implying technical wizardry and magic that would make even the most non-technical person gag.
And it was clear that once the tapes were finally processed, they were processed within a very short amount of time -- probably less than an hour -- evidenced by the communications themselves and the relatively low quality of the digitization.
I'm comforted that these are now backed up digitally -- so at least they won't be lost.
But given the price, the low quality, and the annoying communication and lack of attention, I wish I had taken just a little more time to research locally or to buy the software to do a good job myself.
Because really, despite the many claims in their marketing, there's not an ounce of wizardry to this, and definitely nothing special about the LegacyBox approach.
I purchased the transfer of 20 films for $160 by Legacybox.com through Morningsave.com. The delivery and communication by Legacybox was good, but the quality of the digitizing was terrible. I received a notice shortly after the work began that some of the media was a different format, however all were the same these must have been too much trouble. My films were from the 60's through 80's and i expected some grainy effects or darkening but was i received back was just an obvious lack of concern for quality. They were out of focus, poorly lit with what seemed little to no adjustment for anything. Some of the films were not even transferred in there entirety. Had I not already digitized these films at home with simple equipment I would not have known how badly these were done. I had hoped with Legacybox advertised professional equipment they would make my films look much better than I had. This was not the case. I did contact them and Jessi at Legacybox offered to redo the digitizing which I declined for fear of reprisal and damage to these priceless memories for having complained. I told them if they desired to give me a refund that would be fine or I would just write it off as a life lesson. I understand occasional mistakes by a company BUT, The next response I got basically said I had purchased through Morningsave and they were responsible for the refund. I have to wonder if this same lack of ownership at Legacybox doesn't exist in those doing the digitization? I am sure the purchase price was passed through to Legacybox but now they want someone else to pay for the poor quality work. Amazing! This is why my recommendation is to look elsewhere for digitization of your precious memories.
Purchased a 20 item box for my wife as a Christmas gift to have our aging miniDV library of videos (mostly of our now grow children) converted to a more usable format. After a long wait- more than a month to process- we received our collection of DVDs, a flash drive and even digital downloads as part of a promotion. Upon viewing the digitized footage we saw horrible pixelation, horizontal grey lines on screen and, in general, just terrible picture quality. We were so upset, thinking that our tapes had degraded to the point of being unwatchable. We then viewed on a PC the material on the flash drive only to find that the defects in that footage were different (in the same scene), but equally terrible in quality. This led us to break out our old miniDV camcorder to view our originals...
We were so happy to see clear, crisp video & audio on our originals that was uncompromised. Even the tapes that were rudely labeled (over the tape reels) with a sticker that read, "Previous Damage" played without any defects. This leads me to a few conclusions:
1. Legacy box has some obvious flaws in their digital to digital conversion process, specifically when dealing with miniDV media
2. Their quality control process does not ensure that original video quality is preserved. There is no way that anyone had a look at our converted videos.
3. I cannot be the only customer to have had a similar experience. The miniDV format is aging and players are not readily available.
The only kudos I can muster for Legacy Box is for their prompt response to my concerns, and that after spending a weekend validating that their process is broken, they issued a full refund.
Perhaps their picture scanning, VHS conversion and handling of other formats is great. But stay away from them when it comes to miniDV conversion.
Thanks for the read.

Hi Thom! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with our service. You're absolutely right, we do our very best to maintain the original quality of your precious memories. Tapes naturally deteriorate every time they are played and when they are played on equipment that did not receive up-to-date maintenance. Tape players at home can cause more damage than good. This is because the "heads" in the player become offset over time and actually distort the tape itself, forcing it into play. That said, we cannot account for damage or improper storage/use over time.
Additionally looking at your order, a significant portion of your Tapes were determined to have existing damage that we did our very best to repair at no extra cost to you. With regard to that, we'd rather try our best to get you a file at all rather than simply not transfer it because of the damage these items incurred over time. Despite attempting to transfer the items, repairing them and then trying once more we're still happy to hear you agreed to a full refund of the service we've provided and that you're still able to keep the digital files we did make. Though you were not entirely happy with the files, we hope you'll still continue to enjoy those, on us!

Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
