I authorized and paid $1.00 to run a check on 1 person, and a few days later this nasty site charged my card $29, which I'm now contesting and trying to retrieve. Their "customer care" is a joke. They put some pretty words but they list no email address, only a phone number.
Beware everyone... I suggest staying away from this site.
Just like all these other reviews it was a big ripoff for me. The info. Joined and cancelled within 20 minutes. I looked up myself and found very minimal info. Unless I paid another $9.98 for the "Premium search results" and that is for each search you do.
Terrible, a SCAM; looked myself up & it was inaccurate. HIDDEN FEES! Jointed & cancelled in less than 1/2 hour. Initial info can be found for free on the internet. Very unsympathetic uncooperative customer service. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!
This site is a total rip off. The information is incomplete and at best inaccurate. The billing practices amount to fraud. It is very unclear from the web that if you request a "complete" report that there is another $20 charge. I thought that the charge was only for downloading the PDF format, which I did not ask for. In several instances a name that was clearly typed in, with city and state repeatedly produced a report on a different name in a different state. I asked for a report on my friend's ex husband, knowing that he had an arrest record from a year and a half ago-nothing. Even recent divorce decrees don't show up. There is absolutely no way to check one's billing account on line. You have to call. That is how I determined that there were an additional almost $240.00 charged to my account. I had typed in a name and asked for what I thought was a report included in my monthly fee when we lost power and I had to reboot. Back online I typed in the name again and got the message that I had already "bought" the report. That's why I called the 866 number. I cannot understand how BBB can give this company a B+ (yes they do) with the total number on complaints listed there. As a retired senior it makes me cry to think I was so duped.
So I thought I could look up who my boyfriend was texting, that is what the website is now advertising on Instagram clicked on the link took me to instant phone heck mate. Payed my money and they have me basic information I can just get by a simple google! In vet dissatisfied I tried to login to look up another number and it won't let me even tho I payed my money! They just want more. And more... And MORE money. As the rest of the reviews do not waist your time nor money, it's all a big headache. This website should be banned.
I agree with the other (one star) reviews. But I also got hit with a recurring automatic deduction! For five months! Shame on me for not catching it sooner, but when I signed up it said "one-time" fee so it never crossed my mind to check my bank account. The customer rep person said they do not offer a one-time option. That's not true -- at least not the case when I signed up end of last year. I would never (ever) have set up a recurring service -- because I don't need or want it! This is a bad bad place.
I thought I'd run a background check on myself to see if I'd ever use this outfit a second time. According to my background check, I'm very mysterious in that most of my publicly recorded history was missing. Plus, every time I wanted a more complete view of myself, there was an added fee. Hah! In the end, I discovered that I'm still very mysterious but my wallet has lost a lot of weight.
Not only do they lie about hidden fees and charges but they also don't provide any real information. I signed up to pay $9 dollars a month but they actually charged me $59. I only ran one report and then canceled. And learned way more from a quick google search than they provided. Hell a phone book could give me more information than they did. Do not waste your time or money! This is without a doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with!
You think you're signing up for the one-month, one-time only service, but there's a tiny asterisk that's associated to the fine print on the left that states that you are going to be charged every month unless you call and cancel. When you see the next month's charge, they tell you that they are charging you for the next month anyway, but will cancel future payments. I did a background check on myself using Instant Checkmate and they didn't come up with all that much and even got some of the phone numbers wrong. You have to wonder how thorough a job they do when they resort to those kinds of tactics. There's other businesses that do background checks, I recommend using them.
I NEED to find my husband who has been hiding for the last two years, I cant go on with my life without a divorce and a few things that need to be settled, I have been searching other sites with only outdated information. I saw this ad on Yahoo and thought it was Legit, I paid the cost for one month and was only given outdated information... nothing I couldn't find over the internet. They didn't even has us as being married on the report. I wish I read these reviews, I am sickened by this scam, the $22 is a lot of money on my disability income.
EDIT 3/20/2015 I have had to talk to their customer service 2 times now to get a refund, and as annoying as that part is, I must say their Customer Service is THE BEST I've ever experienced with any company. They are professional and kind and understanding and really wanting to help.
Google ratings sites, especially reviewopedia and you'll see nothing but complaints against these people. I'm going to just try and list the commonly reported scams these people are running.
1). Unauthorized credit card charges.
2). Refusing to or delaying canceling subscriptions.
3). Just making up data. People checked their own data to find that out.
4). Using your personal data to create an actual database as they have none, like those "classmates" sites.
5). Extortion, demanding a fee or they admit they will use your personal data.
6). Still using your data after you pay the extortion fee.
7). They are no longer authorized to transact business, as recorded by the Nevada SOS.
8). The San Diego address is just a mail drop. They are operated out of Las Vegas and Reno Nevada. This has mafia written all over it. Oh, look. Last time they filed a list of officers, one of the two principals is named Joey Rocco. You have GOT to be kidding me. This is the last legal information, from 2013. Since then they have been "converted out". Like a shell game...

I recently subscribed to InstantCheckmate. I ask for information three times; one for a friend, one for my son, one for me. None were accurate and did not contain any information that should have been included. They were totally wrong. I emailed them and informed them of this unsatisfactory service. I told them I wanted my money back and wanted my account closed immediately. They have not responded. Beware of this company!
Horrible. To check if they giving wright information I did research on somebody I knew: got information mixed of this person relative and something else. Couldn't get my money back!
CON people
Joined the site to try it for 30 days. Paid $22, ran a check on myself to see what showed up. They acknowledge completion and went to preview. They wanted more money to obtain full report. All they gave me was generic info for the money I paid. If you are not ready to pay more money for full report then stay away.
Terrible service. It lures you in by asking all kinds of information letting you think that you are doing recon on yourself or someone you know by getting a thorough public records report. I tried this using my own name and got absolutely nothing. The information was hopelessly outdated, incomplete and incorrect. I feel absurdly duped. Stay away! Its just a cunning way to get your money.
I signed up after reading what would be provided in the "FREE" report. I clicked on the "UNLOCK MY REPORT" button entered my credit card information for the $22.88 report. I had to pay another $1.99 to get the report in pdf format. Then when I read it there was NOTHING in it that couldn't be found by doing a simple "GOOGLE" search. If I wanted to get the "business associate's" information or ANY other IMPORTANT information on the person I ran the search on I had to "UPGRADE" for another $19.99. I will say that after asking to speak to a supervisor and voicing my displeasure with the results I was refunded HALF of my fees ($11.44). It remains to be seen if they really refund anything.
DON'T USE THIS SERVICE FOR ANYTHING.

Please do NOT waste your time or your money on this site. They advertise that they will provide you with a plethora of information about an individual. In reality they provide you with scant, useless information that you could glean from Google.
With a basic membership, (~$23/month), when you search an individual you get little more than their name, address, phone number, and for some asinine reason, their horoscope information. Seriously?! Their horoscope! Geez! Then Instant Checkmate tries to tempt you into purchasing additional information related to the individual's criminal/arrest records. They offer this as "Premium" data, but of course, it requires an additional outlay of your hard-earned money. (I had already fallen for the basic membership sales pitch and had been greatly disappointed, so I did not buy into the premium data lie they were pitching.)
This site is a ruse! I can not guarantee you from experience, but I presume that each time you pay more money to get more information, they will only promise you some additional information if you are willing to pay even more money. Instant Checkmate may not be breaking any laws... but they are certainly unscrupulous. Their basic membership "product" is attainable via Google and they dangle the carrot of "premium data" to entice you into spending endless amounts of money. Please, please, PLEASE do NOT waste your time!
BTW... I cancelled after ONE day with this sorry site. They robbed me of $23. Lesson learned...
An excellent way to check if info is correct, is by entering your own name. What came up shocked me! I had 3 criminal records... wrong! I have none. And names came up as possibly my relatives... wrong. Not 1 correct relative was listed. This site is full of bogus info, and I hope no one would make any judgments based on info they give. And no I do not have any children as it states!
Stay away and do not give them an info. They pull you in with some teaser info, like they listed my sister as a relative and her new last married name. So I was duped into going deeper, thankfully I did not give them my CC info. Do not use them, its a scam like everyone says below!
After trying out their services I found that given where I live their services couldn't really tell me much more than I already know. In fact, much of what I expected to show up didn't. I am also rather annoyed that I couldn't cancel my subscription from the site itself. I had to call an 866 number to do so. I did find however that the person I spoke to about cancelling my account was very polite and helpful. I would recommend the service to those who live in bigger cities. For those of us who live anywhere else however... I doubt you'll find anything u can actually use other than sex offenders, which u can find free on other sites.
Answer: No, you can't see anyone's call log or texts. At first it was 1.98 to receive access to the report. Then once I paid the 1.98 I selected "access report" (again) then I was promoted to select a membership Lowest being 22$. Most options tell you that you're paying that amount the same day but the cheapest membership didn't say you would be paying the same day but you are. So roughly 24$ to see what you could've found on Google. When you get to the phone log part it says "you're stuck" or some bull crap probably pay more money which is unreal as you have selected a membership already. This is a rip off there's just now around it smh
Answer: Contact your credit card company, tell them that InstantCheckmate is making unauthorized charges to your card; have your credit card company cancel your card and issue you a new one. I know, it sucks. That's what I had to do. For several months I got "declined payment" indicators listed in my online credit statement, which was good, because InstantCheckmate couldn't get their fraudulent charge to go through. The police, the FBI, or FTC or somebody needs to crack down on InstantCheckmate. I guess maybe it'll take a class action lawsuit against them. But really, the wisest thing to do is to cancel your credit card, have a new one issued -- and be extremely cautious and careful from now on to whom and where you use and give your credit card number. I know, it's a pain in the a##! Good luck. Cheers.
Answer: Absolutely not worth the money they give you incomplete answers and keep charging you for additional answers. Incorrect &/or incomplete reports. Stay far away!
Answer: Appears to be feedback manipulation on consumeraffairs.com to me. Notice all of the replies from Instant Checkmate. They had no current or correct info for me other than my childrens names, which I can find easily anyplace.
Answer: I recommend watching your credit card statement for additional charges for a few months. This company is notorious for not cancelling accounts.
