Logging into the laptop and then sending a link to the cell phone for a photo and then back again to the laptop when finished is complicated. I would suggest staying on just one device. Log in originally on the device that is capable of taking the selfie to save a lot of confusion and frustration.
The typical government application website can be daunting and confusing. ID.me was easy to use with clear instructions you did not have to guess what to do next. And the wait times for processing were not bad. Even the photo portion of the process was easy to follow.

I wanted to double check that the IRS had finally processed the small amount I owed which I had paid and had to go through this to get in. It was either this or go call them during working hours. Honestly, what assurances we have that the pictures of my driver's license and the facial scan of my face will be collected and put into a database for use in the future if you are delinquent in paying what the IRS is owed? It took forever to get through the steps to verify information. Wouldn't it be easier to access the IRS by providing your SSN and say your income listed on your IRS last year or what federal taxes you owed last year as ways to log in? I definitely would not recommend using it.
