This is not a simple not intuitive procedure. It kept disconnecting from me. It never asked for my name. It never gave me the 16 digit "recovery code" to use if there was a problem. You have no control over the two factor system. You cannot add an alternate or second phone number to use. Awkward. Unfriendly. Not intuitive. Why is it used when login.gov works?

I check my ssa.gov account once or twice a year, this time they ask me to set up a more secure log in which had multiple step but each one was as easy as the other. The hardest part is having to remember a password, like with every other site which you have to have a password. The multiple steps was easy and well worth the peace of mind!

To their credit, they let you know that depending upon the volume of applicants, the process may take a bit to complete.
