In trying to log into a certain highly-secure site, the only message you are given is "we cannot process your request at this time. Please try again later". No further explanation. There are 2 alternative verification methods which I was not familiar with. I created an ID.me account, signed in, provided the requested verification data (several choices) completed a few final security steps, and was returned tothe original site and was granted login access.
While I am very cautious about providing this type of highly sensitive info, the necessity is clear and significant, eyes-only 2FA steps are taken which retain a closed circle of security during the process. The only part I don't like is the long-term retention of biometric data without having to opt-out.
